Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Great Return Review: No, this book isn't nearly as good as the first (have any been?), and the whole plot seems a little contrived. But what was great to see was Skeeve's personality come back to life. He'd grown up too fast and was having less adventures and spending too much boring time on Klah.Well, hold on to your hats because Skeeve and Aahz are back in the saddle again, hopping dimensions with Tanda. Sure, none of the dimensions were explored, and a lot of opportunities were wasted for jokes and action. But what there is is still a great adventure and, as I mentioned, a huge relief from the activites back in Possiltum. Tanda and Aahz don't get as many lines or as much action as they would have in old books, but I'm really just glad to have them back. I hated to see them get relegated to the sidelines in the later books (Especially Tanda. An ex-assassin is so much cooler than any of the later characters). So, all in all, it was a fun adventure that any Myth fan should be able to enjoy if they don't focus on what could have been and instead see what they have.

Robert Asprin would crank out another book in this series every year or two. The books were lighthearted, and not great literature, but they were immensely entertaining. Asprin produced several of these, but the early '90s, the long run came to an end. "Real-life" crises for Asprin, combined with quarrels with the publishing house were rumored to be responsible. Now MYTH is back. In the foreword, Asprin tells us he tried to pick up the story where he'd left off, but that it was just too much--The numerous characters and plot twists were too complex to just jump back into after all this time. So Asprin tried to ease back into things, writing a story set earlier in the series, in between two of the earlier books. He limited himself to just three of the numerous characters. Reading the book, you can tell Robert is out of his groove. It doesn't sing like the others. Even though the book is shorter than earlier stories in the series, I still found myself waiting for it to be over. It isn't atrocious, but it ain't great. Like an earlier reviewer, I do prefer Phil Foglio's illustrations to the ones used here, but that's a minor point. Despite this, I urge you to buy the book! Only if sales on this one (and the recently released SOMETHING'S MYTH-ING) are good will there be more of these books, and even though this one is a bit of a rough re-start to the series, I am confident Asprin can get his old groove back and resume writing winners. The base rating for this one is three stars, but I am so pleased to see the series back in production, I'm giving it a bonus star!
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Mything the Mark Review: Robert Asprin has finally come out with a new MYTH book. I LOVE the "MYTH" series, and have been a loyal fan since "Another Fine Myth" first showed up. But there is a problem with this one. Asprin wrote this one to see if he could get back into the series after laying off it for many years. He is very rusty. It shows. Apparently he has old, dusty notes about what he wanted to put in this book. Something like: "Dust bunnies -- men can't see them!". So he mechanically brings up the idea and then drops it with a thud without ever exploring it. You will find that the actual reference is no more interesting or exciting than the sentence I used to desribe it. The old Asprin would have had a fight scene with the women doing all the fighting, and the men not having a clue about what was going on. Or another great idea -- "This world works solely on the barter system -- no money!" So he mechanincally brings up that idea, gives an example of washing dishes in exchange for a meal (how exciting and unique!) then never addresses the issue again. So we don't find out what happens when the skills and needs don't match each other and how that is handled. Again, the handling of that idea is no better than what I have written here. Then there is the problem with the personalities -- or rather lack of them. In the earlier books, the characters were vibrant and alive. The interactions made the series. Here there is virtually nothing. "Myth" fantaics such as myself will still buy it and read it, but prepare for major disappointment. This would play better if Asprin had died, and someone was publishing his notes and ideas for a new novel for the die-hard fans. In that case you would be EXPECTING something that was not polished or filled out, and where character development and definition was minimal. I really hope that Asprin gets back on track, and that when he does he rewrites this embarrassment and burns all the copies of the current version. If you ARE a Myth fanatic, go ahead and buy it. If not, go out and buy the earlier books, starting with "Another Fine Myth" -- really! I cannot possibly recommend them highly enough. You will love them. Just don't start with this one.

Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: IF YOU WANT TO WASTE YOUR MONEY.......... Review: Then buy this book... I can summarize the plot in less than fifty words. In the past 8 years we've been waiting for this book, lame demons from another dimension took control of Aahz, Skeev, and Tanda to make this series [stunk]. And it worked. ...
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: A Myth-Use of My Money and Time! Review: This was a truly terrible book. I am glad that it was not the first Myth book I read or I probably would not have read another. I wonder if this book was one that was written many years ago and just brought out of the closet and dusted off because the publishers knew poor suckers (like me) would buy it just based on its author. I don't know. I do know that I am sorry I wasted my money and my time. Sorry Mr. Asprin but your other books are in a completely different league and selling this book as a true MYTH book was like a used car salesman's bait and switch tactic.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Not up to par Review: When I saw that there was a "new" MYTH book I ran to the bookstore and snatched it up. I began reading that day, and my first impression was "something doesn't seem right". First glance at the cover and any MYTH reader will know that the characters shown (Skeeve, Tanda, and Aahz) look NOTHING like theire descriptions in other books. The cover art is awful. Just compare it to other MYTH books and I think you will agree. It is almost like Asprin had no control over that. Personally I think this was either written by some one else or a story that was bought by the publisher and put on the shelf for a while. Anyway I digress. The story itself lacks the descriptivness of previous Myth Books. You get the general feeling of a Myth book, but not the substance. I was thinking it was maybe a throw back to around when Tanda was introduced, but that doesn't quite fit either. The basic storyline is good and written in Myth fashion. I think my major problem with this book (shared by many fans) is that the book does not follow the time line of the series, and the established characters seem off. Overall a decent book, but lacks what makes Myth books special. Lets hope Something Myth Inc is better. Well At least it will follow the established time line for the series.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: A bit incongruous Review: While I enjoyed reading this book, and have very much enjoyed reading the other Myth books, I found this book to not match well with the style of the time period in which it is supposed to take place. As the series has gone on, the universe in which it takes place has become more complicated, and we have learned about it along with Skeeve. This book is much more "sophisticated" in its treatment of the universe as compared to the novels which surround it. Having read the author's note, I understand his desire to become used to the myth series before he really attempts to extend it. I would opine, though, that judging by this book he has not yet re-captured the delightful playfulness and naivete that has marked the myth series. That being said, I can't wait to read the next one!
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Where's the love Review: While I was happy to see the Robert Asprin is back and writting the Myth series again, I would be lying if I said I was satified with this installment. While the action, adventure and humor are all still there from the previous books the heart is missing. Aahz is just plain mean. Very really to you get the feeling the he likes Skeeve. Unlike in past books where you always could tell that under Aahz's gruff and grumpy personna you could tell he really cared for Skeeve. It wasn't just Aahz none of the characters seemed the same. Still, this book was written to simply get Mr. Asprin refreshed with his characters again not to really further the series. Hopefully, he has done that and the magic will return in the next book.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: I would rather have not ever read it Review: Yes, it really IS that bad! It's a total aberration amongst a group of great books that I really love.
