Summary: A MUST READ BOOK!
Review: ... I thought this book is just going to be a dumb love story book, but I was wrong! To me, I think this is a great book, the struggle that Charly has to go to kinda makes you think about life and how we would feel if we were in his kind of condition. In my opinion everone who likes to read books should read this book for sure!!

Summary: Once you start, keep reading!
Review: This is a very unique book written in first person by a mentally challenged person. Some readers may be turned off by the simple writing at the beginning and miss out on one of the best books I have ever read. The premise is that the mentally challenged person is to receive an operation to increase his intelligence. The operation is successful and as the book progresses, the writing style improves and the thought process of the author gets more complex and analytic.

Amazing writing by Keyes!

Review: A friend of my mom's in France sent me this book quite a long time ago. It sat on my shelf for months before I finally picked it up to read it - and by the time I got to the second or third page I didn't want to put it down. I finished it that same afternoon.

This book is amazing because the author has the talent to use the journal format in a very effective way. Not many people can do that. Usually I find that style rather dull - but here it is outstanding. Through first person you step into Charly's shoes. As things dawn on him, they dawn on you. Some parts are humourous and most are touched with a bit of pathos, because you know that any minute all he has gained is going to go. And when he goes - you go with him.

It's very sad and moving overall and I was so affected by it that I didn't want to even talk to anyone for several hours after finishing it. I just kept thinking about the story.

It's definitely a classic and I think everyone should read it.

Summary: Beautiful and touching..
Review: I wish I could add more stars to my rating, but I'll have to settle with perfection being a mere five stars. I first read this book in my high school English class; I was so impressed with the elegance and humanity in which it was written. Quite honestly, I don't believe I've ever read a better book.

I thought the concept of having the novel written in journal entries from Charlie's prospective was excellent. It showed the reader how he progresses and gives the book a more realistic and sensitive feel. True, it may be dull at times, but I think it's well worth sticking out until the end.

What I loved most about this book was that it seemed to be a courageous voice whose only message was that it only matters who you are--not what people see you as.

I hope you'll give yourself the pleasure of reading FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON but be sure to do so with an open mind. I'm certainly glad that this beautiful novel found its way to me.

Summary: Tugs at the Heartstrings
Review: I didn't read this in highschool when most people were introduced to it. I'm glad I didn't because I don't think I would have appreciated the book. I knew nothing about the book, so it wasn't tainted by what other people may have thought.
This book was wonderful. There were so many times I felt sorry for Charlie when he was working at the bakery. But then he became rather arrogant and my opinion of him changed. This story has a lot of truth to it. People who are mentally retarded are often looked down on as if they are not human.
So, to all of you who didn't read this in highschool or just haven't bothered to read it, I highly recommend you do.

Summary: I HATE THIS BOOK
Review: This year I had to read this book for an English assignment. It was so boring. It had sex and dirty language on it. I kind of expect to hear this from tv, but its weird hearing it from a book. This book sounded good but turned out terrible.

Summary: Important feelings in life
Review: I'm not a sentimental person. But this book really made me understan some important things in life. Like how we treat each other. As you read this book you will understand how cruel human beings can be- and they take out their anger on people who do not deserve it- people like Charlie. (main character of this book). All Charlie wanted was to be treated like a human being- not an expieriment. It's all everyone really wants- is to be treated normally. And to be accepted. Charlie didn't understand lots of things- and no one would explain them. It makes you think twice about helping someone, or doing something more important with your life. I reccommend this book to everyone. It was excellent. I give it 5 stars!

Summary: A touching book
Review: I'm not really one of those sentimental people. But this book really touched me. It made me understand how Charly felt- when he was frusterated- it made me feel like that. It also made me realize how cruel we treat other human beings on Earth. All Charly wanted was to be treated as a person- not an expieriment. Thats all any of us want to be treated as- a person. This was a truly excellent book and I reccommend it for everyone.

Summary: A joy to read at any time of the year
Review: This is a book that I will read again and again as the years go by. I have a copy that is in horribel condition and plan on keeping a new one on my shelf so I can refer it to others and so I can re-read it. The people are interesting and the story is timely considering all the gene therapy going on. A definite must have on anyone's reading list.

Summary: Close to home
Review: I first read this book in the seventh grade. I cried. The book, for me, says that underneath that childlike exterior is a man with compassion and love and emotion. He was just given a chance to express those very things...just for a while.
