Rating: Summary: There is no other SF novel like this. Review: No words to describe it. No words to describe the deep pleasure you will find reading it.
Rating: Summary: Touching story of trying to liveyour dream to it's extent. Review: I read this book 2 years ago in tenth grade. It was the second novel we were reading and the only one I actually enjoyed and read. This book is a touching story of a mentally handicapped young man trying to be normal. Charly is the subject of an experiment so he can be smart just like everybody else. Charly learns so much about life and as you read the book it makes you think about your life and all the hardships that make Charly's life so difficult.
Rating: Summary: An experience the reader is not likely to forget. Review: Definitely the most well written book I've read, it is possibly my favorite. Some of the themes you'll encounter include innocence, prejudice, acceptance, enlightenment, hope and loss. The story centers on Charlie, a mildly retarded janitor who is selected for an experimental intelligence enhancing procedure. It initially appears successful. Charlie adopts Algernon, a mouse that underwent the procedure before him. The two are watched closely to evaluate results. Results are assessed by the aid of Charlie's written journal. The entire book consists of excerpts of the journal he writes. We gradually learn about Charlie's disturbing life as he begins to recall his childhood. This only adds to the reader's genuine admiration for his pleasant temperament. By the end of the book we truly care about Charlie, and watch helplessly as the inevitable occurs. The last few pages are as moving as any book could possibly be. The book is very funny at times. But the issues are painfully serious. Every reader has undoubtedly experienced emotions in real life that are echoed here. And despite many difficult scenes I raced on through this book, intent on finishing the great and terrible journey with Charlie. It is one I will not forget.
Rating: Summary: A great book for teenagers. Review: This is a touching novel about Charlie, a mentally retarded adult who struggles in our unforgiving society. He becomes the subject of a lab experiment to raise his IQ to a genius level. He is the first human to be experimented on, following an experiment on a lab rat named Algernon. As Charlie gains intelligence and loses his innocence, he must learn how to survive in the harsh adult environment. Sadly, the experiment goes horribly awry and he finds himself struggling between two worlds. This was a great book and I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: A very touching book! Review: I just finished reading the book "Flowers for Algernon" and I really enjoyed it. I found it interesting to see life from a different person's perspective. It made me grateful for the things I have. I would recommend this book to anyone who's ready to see life through the eyes of another person.
Rating: Summary: An excelent book Review: This book has brought me to realize so much about otherpeoples thinking, and i related o alot that went on intthis book. Charlie was a lone soul trying to accomplish his dream of being normal. He finally does and doesnt hold back on using it. In the end everything he has wanted and finally gained is snatched from him like ripping his arm off. I suggest anybody who has the resources to acquire this book, should.
Rating: Summary: This book was VERY touching and I enjoyed it very much. Review: This book was interesting, touching, and should receive all the recognition it deserves.
Rating: Summary: A very good book Review: This book, Flowers for Algernon was very good. The main character Charlie is a small part of us all, you want something so bad that you'll do anything for it, but once you get it, you will have to pay a high price for it. This novel is story that if I could, I would make everyone read. Everyone needs to be treated as a equal, but respect starts with oneself.
Rating: Summary: Great Book!!!!!!!!!! Review: This book was amazing. I don't believe that I have ever gotten so involved in a book before. You will absolutely love it!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Charlie teaches us to never underestamate the little people. Review: This book is a must read! Charlie (the main character) has the capabilities of a child and gets teased for it. He wants so badly to get smarter, but in order to do this he must have an opperation that has only been tested on mice. Reading the book makes you feel his pain, like as if you were actually there going through it all with him. It teaches us a lesson to never forget, don't make fun of people beacause one day they will bite back and be more inteligent then you. It also teaches us to be carefull when using an experiment on a human for the first time.
