Summary: A most intriguing journey through the human mind.
Review: A timeless classic that is mandatory reading in many schools for good reason. Not only is this a well written story, but the plot borders on great science fiction. Who hasn't dreamed of some type of miracle "pill" that could increase brain power! A very realistic look at human intelligence and the author writes brilliantly from both mind perspectives of the dumb and smart Charley. The ending is not too depressing because Charley resorts back to the lovable character he was. Definitely a great read for anybody.

Summary: Brilliant!
Review: This book, from the first time I read it in 7th grade I loved it. I've read it 4 times since then and It still amazes me. It is so brilliantly written. The main character Charlie comes to life thanks to Keyes' technique of writing the book in diary/journal mind. You can't help but feel connected to this character, as if he were another human being. The plot is extensive and grips you. I can't get enough of this book, and I hope you give it a chance to get you too.

Summary: This book is a must-read for everyone!
Review: Flowers for Algernon was one of the best books I have ever read. I literally could not put it down. I did wish that in the end that the operation could have been repeated so that Charly and Alice could have married, had a family, and he could continue to do wonderful work. What struck me the most is how Charly used his remaining time while he was intelligent to do research to help mankind, rather than to simply enjoy life and cruise along in his great knowledge. It also enlightens people on how crucial it is for parents to accept their children as they are and love them, and how abuse can leave scars which later are manifest (such as in his relationship with Alice). I now have a new understanding and appreciation for those who cannot articulate what they feel, yet they are people just like you and me.

Summary: If you haven't read this already, please do
Review: I read this book in seventh grade, and it's supposed to be for ages thirteen and up. There is not much inappropriate content in it or anything, and it's a wonderful book. One of the best I've ever read. It would make a great gift for your child, or yourself. This book is told through Charlie, a retarded adult's, point of view. He agrees to be the subject of an experiment previously performed on mice that makes you more intelligent. Charlie rapidly becomes smarter, much smarter than the average human being, after the surgery. Then he starts getting worse. Read about his experiences and about his mouse pal, Algernon, in this touching modern-day classic.

Summary: Great Book, Diary of an experiment gone awry
Review: Charlie Gordon starts out a 32 year old man suffering from mental retardation. His family rejected him and he lived with his Uncle Herman until the time of his death. working at Donner's bakery, he made a living. Then, he is offered the chance to become smart like everyone around him. He obviously jumps at the chance and takes the operation. His progress report/diary charts his ascent and then decline throughout the experiment. I highly reccomend this book if you are interested in psychology or analysis and it is a must have for psychology majors at college.
