Summary: A True Heart-rending Experience
Review: Flowers for Algernon, an early Hugo winner, has long been considered a science fiction classic. However, the main theme of the storey is not science fiction. It is a tragically moving tale written in a style similar to Gogol's Diary of a Madman. The sad feeling impressed upon the reader is too strong and real. The ending is so painful it will make you regret having read it.

Summary: Flowers For Algernon
Review: Even though I am 12 I am advanced in reading(I'm talking 12th grade, so I hope that you will respect my opinion. I love this book. I think that it is so sweet and my heart just melted the way Charlie's friends were so mean to him and he didn't even know it. Anyway I think that this story is wonderfull and sweet and that Daniel Keyes is a great writer.

Summary: Amazing Book!
Review: Flowers For Algernon is a book that you cannot stop reading once you start. I am in 9th grade and my class is reading the book. When I picked up the book I thought it'll be any ol' book about some guy doing something to change the world...let's give it a shot. I've already finished the book and my class is far behind. Charlie is a great character, you feel angry at him but then you feel sorry for him because you would act the same way if that was going to happen to you.

I also have a cousin who has a sister who is retarted. I don't think she's heard of this book, so I am going to give it to her as a present. I can bet she'll cry...but it's a good book, I don't want her to cry though. I was about to cry and yes I am a guy, but it might be 'cause I was reading the book while having my face in front of the A/C.

All I recommend is that you pick up the book and don't let go of it until you're done reading.

Summary: Sad but wonderful.
Review: Oh, this book was terrific! I can't really do it justice in one review, so I'm just going to let you get the basic storyline from the editor's review, and tell you that it's definitely one of the best books I've ever read (and I've read a LOT of books!) and that it's highly recommended. Anyone would love "Flowers for Algernon." But beware, Charlie Gordon is one of the most lovable characters in all noveldom, and seeing what happens to him over time is pretty tough. Still, you should read this book-it'll stay with you for a long, long time.

Summary: Flowers For Algernon- Very Moving Novel
Review: Flowers For Algernon is about an individual who is faced with the burdens of mental retardation. Keyes uses people, feelings, places, past events, etc. in order to get this book across. In my opinion, this is a must read novel. Very Compelling!

Summary: Flowers for Algernon
Review: I didnt exactly read the book..but I read (a shortened version, I beleive) in my English class. The story was very sad, and it might be boring to some kids. I liked the story though, and I encourage reading at least the shorter version.

Summary: Neither intelligence nor affection
Review: This book, as everyone has said, deals well with the concept of a person who rises from retardation to genius and then falls back. However, it is marred by two flaws. First, the conclusion Charlie comes to is that friendship, not intelligence, gives meaning to life. Despite mentioning God briefly, he is not investigated. As a friend, Charlie uses people. If we place the meaning of life in friendships they will disapoint and eventualy disappear. Clearly, this answer to the meaning of life is not adaquate for everyone. Second, Charlie seems preocupied with sex. In the end he matures to the point that he is free to enjoy casual premarital sex with a friend. Along the way he is even less mature. This behavior, while a route taken by many, is not exemplary. Hopefully, some of the children's versions cut these flaws.

Summary: A wonderfully written book
Review: Flowers for Algernon was a wonderfully touching book. It is one of my favorites. Daniel Keyes story is of a mentally chanllenged male adult, Charlie, who turns into a genius from experiments and back again to being challenged. The author described Charlie's experiences and personality very well. This is a heart warming tale of an adult woth the mind of a maturing child. Daniel Keyes wrote this book beautifully. I definitely recomend this book to both children and adults.
