Summary: Terry Brooks finest hour, if not for one slip up!
Review: Terry Brooks has excited readers for years with his stunning world of Shannara, mixed with races that defy normal lines and push the bounders of bizzare. The First King of Shannara does an excellent job of telling the story of Jerle Shannara, the First King. A truly flawed hero that makes him all the more interesting in that his flaws are not vices as most new authors seem to covet. Terry Brooks once again breaths life into his world with stunning landscapes and nature scenes that bring the wild alive. Battles within the book are handled with ease as is a trademark of Mr. Brooks. His ease of written word is easy to see and his grasp on how magic effects those who live in his world is perfect. When other authors write about snow in their books I see it, in a Terry Brooks novel I get a coat. Enough said, his talen lies in a smooth transition from quest to redemption and back again. Always keeping the characters busy with unlocking the secrets he so murderiously gives them. Only one small flaw mares this work. That is Mr.Brooks ending. It is strangely quick and not so startling for its brevity as it is for its crudeness. Maybe Mr.Brooks wanted to explain to the reader what had happened but I found it slightly depressing. Other than that small problem I found the book very interesting and a must read for any Shannara and Terry Brooks fan.

Summary: An excallent peice of work. Brooks thrills me again.
Review: Brooks prequil to "Sword" and "Elfstones" provides an excellent reenforcement for the foundation of his previous works. Gives an amazingly different prospective than what he led you too believe in his previos works. I only wish that I had waited to read "Sword" and "Elfstones" until after "First King" now.

Summary: Back To The Classic Style
Review: Like many young readers of my generation, I grew up with The Sword of Shannara. The easy to read text, the episodic adventures reminiscent of Alexander Dumas, and the thrilling Brothers Hilderbrandt illustrations made this book a juvinile classic. However, I never liked the two immdeiate sequels [Elfstones; Wishsong]. Their major problems were uninteresting premises and lots of intangible magic. The "Heritage" series gradually restored the feel of the original book, introducing fun influences from the Oz series. But First King is the only Shannara book as good as the original. Although Brooks [like Baum] can be deadly dull, First King has the same brisk air of high, childish adventure. The characters are broad [described in a few lines - in the manner of a good Jr. High-School book report], the battles big and exciting, the conclusion satisfying. I hope that Brooks indulges in a few more "prequels".

Summary: I loved it!
Review: I can almost forgive the travesty that was "Talismans of Shannara" after this book. Brooks broke away from the old formula and gave us one more exciting story in this mostly entertaining series.

Summary: Another wondeful job by Brooks!
Review: This was diffinatley my favorite of the books of Shannara. There are some reveiws that I saw that complained that the book has shallow characters and a bad plot. I would beg to differ. I adored every part of the book and couldn't put it down. I ended up reading it in one weekend. I would deffenitly recommend it to any fantasy reader!

Summary: Getting worse by the minute
Review: This tiresome, overrated series seems to grow worse with each new book, "expanding" on the horribly shallow mythos that is the world of Shannara. This novel represents the depths of the series that should never have moved past the very first book, The Sword Of Shanarra, and would best be avoided by any who don't wish to drag themselves through hundreds of pages of bland narration and thin dialouge.

Summary: Another GREAT Brooks Book
Review: Those simple minded fools who didnt like this book really should stick to the comics and stay away from the Adult section.. This is yet another great story from Brooks.. It has all the action and suspence of his others and a little more.. I only hope he continues to write more SHannarra books.. They are GREAT..

Summary: Not all to waste
Review: This is the first book - in well over 500 read - that I have ever left unfinished. Terrible, from start to half-finish. Skip this.

(it got two stars because the cover was nice, and I'm not mean enough to give just one)

Summary: An excellent example of brooks' talent
Review: I picked out this book, not sure what to expect..I soon found it was a very good choice. brooks knows just how to draw you into a story as if you too are living the adventure. you become one with it,feeling all the emotions along with the other characters. In the story, Bremen, an outcast druid discovers that shannara is in danger of the warlock Lord, the evil ex druid brona, come back. bremen goes to paranor to warn the druids, but they ignore him, not trusting the magic. he leaves with only a few freethinking druids. They go on a mission to uncover the black elfstone and find the sword of shannara..will they succeed in rescuing shannara from this evil? the rest is up to you to read..i'm sure if you pick up this book, like me, you will not be able to put it down. Enjoy!

Summary: Great book. Well written.
Review: It was a great book, but it wasn't half as good as Brooks' previous books. It was not awesome, but it was very good. Tay, Bremen, and Jerle are made out to be very likable characters, but I certainly do not like them as much as others. Still, it is a great book.
