Rating: Summary: Another great book by Brooks Review: This is the prequel to The Sword of Shanarra. It is a good book in my opinion. I hope Mister Brooks does another sequel about Galaphile and Cogline, and how Brona became evil. I hope you're reading this, Mister Brooks!
Rating: Summary: Excellent as usual Mr Brooks Review: I loved this book! As noted by the 29 yr old reviewer(I'm 36)this does seem like any other fantasy book. A handful of people surpass incredible odds to save the day, but, along the way you really do get to know the characters and care for them. I even found myself getting ticked off with the tragedies that befall some of them. Since starting the Shannara books I have not been dissapointed once. I am now 1/2 way through Wishsong and like the others I find myself drawn into their world. Fantasy books like those by Mr Brooks can involve you more than general thrillers and mysteries can. I would highly recommend this series to anyone. My advice though is to start with this book and then read Sword Of,Elfstones Of and Wishong Of. The First King Of Shannara gives lots of background on what is too follow in the series. The characters are fleshed out,the action sequences are par excellence, and the story just has such a flow to it that it really is hard to put down. Buy it and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Tay Rocks Review: This book prevides a good history of everything that happens in the Sword of Shannara. It is a lot like the other books (No complaints there!) and deals with elves (Who are very cool) and Allanon (Who is a mystery). This is ONLY good if you have read the Sword. Otherwise, it sucks.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book! Review: This is another very pleasant book by Terry Brooks, and if you have read the sequels to this book, then it may feel weird to be reading about more than one Druid, but it is a very self binding book that definately deserves five stars, and like all Terry Brooks' books, I would give my own personal to this book.
Rating: Summary: A must read book! Review: I thought this was a good book. Then again, I just read the other Shannara books. It helps you understand more of what was happening in the Sword of Shannara. It also incorporates more romance and love, which I think makes the book more realistic. Also the fact of Mareth's shady past only makes it more realistic. If you want a good book that'll captivate you until the end, read this.
Rating: Summary: Great...if you're 15 years old. Review: I am about 75 pages into this latest Brooks offering and am quite disappointed. Then again, I'm 29-years-old so perhaps my tastes have changed. I loved the first triology (Sword of, Elfstones of, Wishsong of.....) but I read it when I was 15. There's nothing new here; Bad guys taking over the land, just a few heroes facing insurmountable odds, and then: "I know! let's go on a quest for a magic talisman!" Please. I guess this is the formula for about 75% of the sci-fi fantasy books out there. Maybe that's why I can't read them much anymore. And if you're going to create characters, make some that we can really feel something for! The cardboard cut-outs in "First King" could get swallowed up by a thousand Skull Bearers and I couldn't care less! Brooks just barely glosses over these characters' motivations & feelings without really digging into them. I guess I expected to recapture the magic (no pun intended) of reading Brooks' first three Shannara novels. Sci-fi fantasy can still be a great literary genre, but this novel just doesn't do it for me. The books by George R.R. Martin are more worthwhile. Just my opinion.
Rating: Summary: Loved this book!! Review: This book was great, a fast flowing page turning novel I didn't want to put down. The prelude to the "Sword of Shannara" really explaned the history behinde everything, all the characters in the later books, the druids, the Shannara family, the Fourlands, and the Warlock Lord. This book was excellent. If you have read the other books, you have to read this one.
Rating: Summary: Vive Shannara! Review: This is THE Shannara novel, the culmination of Terry Brooks's talents. Yup, he's still into loads of narration, but this time you can't ignore the splendour in the tale. The magic's there, and the danger, and the feeling of age, of coming full circle, the awe of seeing the world of Shannara shape itself during history. This is epic fantasy in great form, and if you don't mind certain maudlin parts, read it and love Shannara!
Rating: Summary: The story is mesmerizing!! Another masterpiece by Brooks!! Review: I found the book captivating... but I always do when I read a book by Terry Brooks! I've read the entire "Shannara Saga"... three times!! I always did want to know how it all started. I just hope it doesn't end! Terry once again writes with a skill that let's you experience the story as if you were right there traveling and fighting along with the characters. Absolutely thrilling!! "The Elfstones of Shannara" was the first Science Fiction book I ever read, and I have been hooked ever since! Thanks again,Terry, for another great novel! I'm looking forward to the next one!
Rating: Summary: This book is bound to keep you interested! Review: I generally didn't think I would like these books, but as soon as I started reading I became hooked. Once I started I couldn't stop. It took me about 3-4 days to finish this book, and when it ended I knew I couldn't stop there...I knew I had to read onward, and quickly went to the libaray and found the next. I hope you try to read this and find it as interesting as I did.
