Summary: not his best
Review: I love Terry Brooks, he's the bee's knees. But this book was a serious dissapointment on his part. Oh, of course it still surpasses the dull and demonic efforts of Marion Zimmer Bradley (please don't hurt me!) but it's definately not his best work. For those of you planning to buy this award worthy piece of fiction, please please please buy and read The Sword of Shannara first! It'll give you a better understanding of the book and a bad view of Brook's finest. Take heed of my warnings! Read the Sword first!

Summary: A great prelude to The Sword of Shannara
Review: This book, set some five hundred years before the fall of the Warlock Lord, tells of the second War of the Races. It tells of how Bremen, an outcast Druid from Paranor, learns of the Warlock Lord's inevitable invasion of the Four Lands and becomes the central figure in defeating the Warlock Lord and creating the Sword of Shannara. Also explained are the destruction of the Druids and Allanon's relationship with Bremen. I would recommend this to any fantasy reader. It is a great book!

Summary: So well written I couldn't put it down!
Review: First King Of Shanara definitly lives up to the Sword Of Shannara. It focuses on the time before Flick,Allanon, and Shea. Terry Brooks gives us that same feeling like we know the characters iner-most thoughts, feelings, and conflicts as he does in his previous books. I think this book(besides The Elfstones of Shannara)lives up to the original. The only problem is he should have wrote this one first because it is about 500 years before the other characters time. The best part of the book was the ending because after the last page you began craving more and began thinking why did it end like this. I'm glad he wrote it because it brought you back and explained so much more. I recommend reading this book. It's worth it and I think many generations to come will enjoy it as much as I did.

Summary: Questions answered and Mysteries revealed
Review: As a long time reader of this series, I was impressed with the story line. This pre-quel answered many question that I had from the previous Shannara tales. Terry Brooks did it again. Great book, I hope to see the next books in the near future and I am looking forward to the movie.

Summary: Exelent book

Summary: A great prequel to the The Sword of Shannara
Review: The First King, along with all of Terry Brooks' Shannara Books, is great exciting reading, easily read in one or two days. Brooks, in my opinion has created his own style of fantasy, and saying that he has immitated Tolkien's works is a great misjustice. One who has truly read all of Tolkiens books could clearly see this. Brooks' Shannara Books make humans the ultimate heros, as he makes definite references to mankinds history in ou world. This book, allong with the others, is truly entertaining and provides some insight to the other books.

Summary: The weakest in an otherwise decent series
Review: It seems to be the habit of most fantasy writers (or perhaps their publishers) to forever stick with the characters and worlds that made them famous; this pattern can be witnessed over and over again in the fantasy genre (see R.A. Salvatore, David Eddings, Robert Jordan, et al). The result, unfortunately, is usually books like this. One gets the feeling that even Brooks has grown tired of the series. The plot is nothing any faithful reader of Brooks isn't familiar with by now, and the literary execution is, to say the least, uninspired. Sadly, however, I'm sure that as I write this, Terry's publishing company is pressuring him to come up with yet another Shannarra novel, perhaps this time an epilogue to the series. What a waste of talent.

Summary: Chaulk up one more Masterpiece for Author Terry Brooks
Review: In this readers eyes this novel was not only spellbinding to say the least, but captivating and entrancing.Terry has done it again, how he does it over and over is magical!! I am interested to know if this story can be added to and if so when. . . shannara is home to many peoples imaginations and to say that this series could in fact be finished would be damaging to the fantasy world . The first king of shannara will keep you locked within the folds of the fantasy world, and keep you there.

Summary: Sad to see it end...
Review: Once again, I have been riveted to a Shannara book. This has got to be the best fantasy series I have ever read (including the Magic Kingdom series). I'm just sorry to see it end, I want more and more and more... Terry can't you do at least 10 more in this series? Please?????!!!???
