Rating: Summary: Ticklish with delight! Review: This book was a delight to read from the very first sentence. The people in it are improbabilities that seem incredibly real nonetheless. I only had a little time to read this book each day, but I found it hard to put down each time. I always wanted to keep reading to catch just one more descriptor, one more scrap of dialogue, one more laugh. Christopher Moore is a skilled author who appears to know his audience well. He is the sort of author you would read if you liked Mark Leyner's books but found them a bit too bizarre and self-referential. Additionally, Moore is much funnier than Leyner imagines himself to be. Comic genius.
Rating: Summary: Great fun read Review: This was my introduction to Christopher Moore. It was the only one that they had at the library, and I am so glad that I started with it. Hilarious characters. As my sister said, it's like Carl Hiassen without the morality lesson attached. Great fun and it will definitely lead you to Moore's other books, which are equally enjoyable. Plus it's just so much fun to say the name when people ask you what you are reading!
Rating: Summary: I love zees mon! Review: He makes me laugh. Every book from this man is a gem. In fact, just start with his first novel, Practical Demonkeeping, and read/laugh your way through his creations. :)
Rating: Summary: Sick, twisted, unbelievable -- it rocks!!! Review: I picked this book up because I really needed something to read. A few hours later I was giggling fiendishly and couldn't put it down. This book is responsible for another Christopher Moore fan, but from what I've read so far this is his best. I could definitely use more of this type of sick twisted humor in my life!
Rating: Summary: Skewering sacred cows for fun and--well, more fun. Review: Christopher's Moores books follow a basic formula'Skewer a familiar literary genre while simultaneously skewering the stereotype of California 'New Age' sensibilities that the rest of the country so energetically harbors. In this case, the literary genre is the 'Godzilla' monster concept. Retuning for a return engagement to Pine Cove'last heard from in Moore's first work, Practical Demonkeeping'we find that thing are getting interesting: A Giant Sea Lizard, awoken from a millennial subsurface slumber by a radiation leak at a nearby nuclear power plant, is on the scene creating chaos. It's hardly noticeable, however, amidst that general chaos that is life in Pine Cove. The main local attraction is the removal of most of the town from their anti-psychotic prescriptions. The local shrink, eager to feed everyone's apparent desire for these things has cut everyone off after one of he patients does herself in, feeling the drugs played a part. Is the huge surge in everyone's sexual appetites that result the work of withdrawal, or some how related to the sub-sea visitor wrecking havoc in the town? Moore's real writing strengths are his wacky and irreverent sense of humor'his books are hysterically funny'and his wacky characters, all drawn with loving, psychotic detail. The only real criticism I have is that there is a feel of cruise control writing present in this effort'it's not quite as impassioned, if that's the word to use, or as neatly coordinated as his best work. Still, for pure entertainment value, this'and all of his books'can't be beat! If you want to read a book that will have you laughing out loud, Moore is your author.
Rating: Summary: I almost peed myself Review: This guy is totally nuts, but I guess we are all a little because his humor is absolutely devastating.
Rating: Summary: Nothing Melancholy About this Lizard Review: Thanks to a friend for lending me one of the most entertaining books I've read in some time. This book is a roller coaster; you don't know what turn it will take next. A sleepy little town in California doesn't stay sleepy long. The author does a splendid job of introducing you to some of the most unlikely characters. From the B rated movie starlet, to the Lust Lizard, which turns the whole town on, each in their own way will make you want to turn page after page. This book will bring anyone out of the winter blues. Read it, laugh, and just have fun, I'm sure that's what the author wanted.
Rating: Summary: Christopher Moore is my discovery of the year! Review: In a rush for something new to read, I bought this book for the title alone. The story inside is just as creative. A stoned constable and an ex-warrior babe actress gone psychotic are your heros in a town that has all gone nuts - thanks to the local psychiatrist who changed everyone's antidepressants to placebos and to an ancient sea-beast name Steve who has awakend from a million year slumber and emerged from the sea into this tiny town. This book had me laughing on almost every page and wishing I could meet every character in Pine Cove. You must read this book!
Rating: Summary: The gentle lizard Review: As it is normally the case with a book from Christopher Moore, this one is absolute lunacy. One has to admire the inventiveness of the author and his ability to make us laugh. Read this book when you feel depressed. It will pull you right out of it.
Rating: Summary: Classic Moore Review: If you already like Christopher Moore, you will enjoy this. If you are not a fan already, you will still enjoy it. If you like Tom Robbins; you will like this book. You will probably like this book no matter what else you have read. It is a great read! So are all his others, go check them out too!!!
