Rating: Summary: Spaced out Hilarity Review: When a friend of mine approached me with an old book of his a few years ago named "Cosmic Banditos" all I could do was laugh. However, the last laugh was difinitely on me. Never had I read such a hilarious, nonsensical, and metaphysical book. If only more people had heard of "cosmic Banditos," I truly think it would have become a genuine cult classic. If you haven't read this tale of drugs, corruption, fate, and Mexican spoofs, now is the time to BUY
Rating: Summary: Easily the funniest novel ever written. Review: I completely agree with the one reader reviewalready here for this remarkably insane, yetimminently intelligent, laugh-fest. I've never read anything like it. While many novels have made me chuckle or even bark a little, this is the only novel I've ever read that had me falling out of my chair bellowing laughter. I, too, have no idea why more people didn't find this novel. But I do know that everyone I've ever lent my two copies to has agreed with me. It's well worth trying to find through whichever means you can. Plus, it also has the best author bio I've ever read at the back of the book: "Not much is known about A.C. Weisbecker, and A.C. Weisbecker wants to keep it that way." I re-read this every couple of years, especially when I'm feeling down. It's a written anti-depressant of the highest order, and it's only side effect is laughter.
Rating: Summary: Not an ordinary book to simply be placed upon a coffeetable Review: Whilst waiting anxiously in an emergency room amongst almost 50 other people, cramped in cushionless metal chairs, tension was one of the first things to notice. Heat from the malfunctioning thermostat and the release of heat from my fellow endotherms (humans) made us literally sweat. I went there knowing that I would be admitted, monitored, and have surgery immediately for my rare disease. The puncher: I remembered that this book was in my bag along with numerous papers and clearance forms. Under all of that stress I was able to ease myself to a point just from reading this humerous text. I laughed for the first time in hours! I hardly find books like this. The characters are definitely unbelievable at times but rich in personality. The situations..you have to read to absorb, reflect, and laugh. I also found it to be great conversation material. :P I strongly endorse this book. Who said literature need be ridden with typical characters and situations! Modern times, my friends, can be remarkable too. ^_^
Rating: Summary: Funniest book I've read Review: I was so pleased to see that this book was back in print I almost bought a new copy, even though I still have a (now rare and expensive) original on my bookshelf. Cosmic Banditos is perhaps the funniest book I've ever read, full of goofball action, drug running, and quantum physics. Buy this, buy it now. You won't regret it!
Rating: Summary: This book will change your life--kind of!! Review: When a friend of mine approached me with an old book of his a few years ago named "Cosmic Banditos" all I could do was laugh. However, the last laugh was difinitely on me. Never had I read such a hilarious, nonsensical, and metaphysical book. Rating: Summary: Great Read!!! Review: I enjoyed this book very much. I found it extremely funny and entertaining. I actually laughed out loud on several occasions. If you want to read about funny drug smuggling mishaps, the breaking out of several jails, banditos shooting at each other, stealing airplanes to run from government agencies, the semi-stalking of Tina's father by "Mr. Quark"...Then, I highly recommend this book. You will not be sorry you started it and I promise you will be entertained. I believe I will read - In Search of Captain Zero next.
Rating: Summary: You'd better be into physics and psychedelics Review: Otherwise you'll want to read something else. If Quantum theory fascinates you though, and you think you'd enjoy a drug running romp through South America and other places, then this is definately the book for you, and at 192 pages, it's fairly easy to burn through.
Rating: Summary: Read In Search of Captain Zero instead Review: Despite his apparent cult status, I had never heard of Allan Weisbecker or Cosmic Banditos. I read "In Search of Captain Zero" on a whim and was thoroughly impressed - funny, intelligent, thoughtful with lots of "shake your head, can't believe this guy did this" kind of anecdotes. So I went in to Cosmic Banditos with some pretty high expectations and unfortunately was not impressed. It wasn't disastrous but I found the humour to be flat, the characters and the plot fun at first but quickly tiresome and the cosmic philosophy, tedious. After having read Captain Zero it's clear where he got the inspiration for the book and I would recommend his 1st person account much more. He doesn't need fiction to make his stories interesting...
Rating: Summary: Excellent Read Review: Very entertaining and a very good use of time.
Rating: Summary: WARNING: This book is warped! Review: Warning: This book is warped, and your mind may be too after you've finished reading it. _Cosmic Banditos_ is an examination of the wonders of quantum physics, couched in a South Ameircan drug-runner's quest for enlightenment. The physics is accurate. I know. I have no personal knowledge about the bizarre lifestyles portrayed, nor do I want to. The combination, though, of physics and somewhat insane crooks is unforgetable. This is not a book for the culturally timid, but it is an absolute treasure for those sufficiently off the wall to read it.
