Rating: Summary: Who needs it? Review: Do we really need this book? Aren't Harry Potter fans smart enough to draw their own conclusions about the book? I enjoy making predictions about what Harry will do next, and sharing my views and anticipations with others--we don't need a book full of them to keep us happy. This book is only one person's view. There isn't any point to this book. I suppose it was bound to happen eventually, but to me it is just another book that is mooching of J.K. Rowling's creativity.
Rating: Summary: The Best "Unofficial" Book I've Seen Review: I've read a lot of unofficial "guides" for Harry Potter but this is the best, on or off the Internet. It may seem a bit like a fan-site with emoticons and a few minor misspellings, but the book makes up for that in the long run. I've read the 1st four books at least 4 times and I still didn't discover some of the hidden meanings and clues. Some of the theories presented here will make you wonder how you missed them while others can be pretty far-fetched. The Restricted Section in the back has lot's of interesting theories on the last three books, most of which fit with what J.K. Rowling has stated (both in the books and in interviews). Once you get into it (at least for me)it's almost impossible to put down. For those of that are wondering how to pass the time waiting for Book 5, this is the perfect way to do it. All in all, the book may seem a bit expensive but it will certainly be worth every penny. This book is absolutely worth 5 stars!
Rating: Summary: I love this book! Review: I'm 12 years old, and I LOVE Harry Potter, I'm obsessed...heh. This book is very deep and it explains alot of stuff. I have no idea how JK writes the books without throwing them out the window. There are so many things in almost every paragraph. I could never do this...
Rating: Summary: I don't see the point in a book like this. Review: Honestly, I don't see a point in this book other than people making money off of other people's creativity. I've never read it but from what I can tell, it tells you about the different points and purposes of things in the books. If you really liked the books then you would read them more than once and you could figure these things out without having to spend [$$$] on another book. If you didn't enjoy the books because you didn't understand them then I guess this book could help you enjoy them more because you would then understand them a little better but I wouldn't spend money on a book to tell me about a book I spent [$$$] on. I love the Harry Potter books and own and read all them many times so I understand what is happening so that might be the reason I feel this way but I still don't see the point.
Rating: Summary: Great Book For Hardcore Harry Potter Fans Review: Although I delightfully enjoyed this book, the author's style of interpreting and predicting annoyed me a bit. During many instances I found myself laughing at the mammoth conclusions that the author made from extremely minor coincidences. For instance, when ever any body part, any color, or any animal is mentioned more than once in the 1600+ pages in the Harry Potter series, the author mindlessly jumps to the compulsion that it is major evidence that will help us solve the rest of the plot for the entire series. Even though author jumps to conclusions with little evidence she make some good points once in a while that really made me think. So if you are an above average HP fan (which you probably are if your looking at this review) then take a look at this in depth Harry Potter guide.
Rating: Summary: Not too bad. Not too good. Review: Both the writing and thinking styles are too flippant with the language and tone more fitting for a DJ or a chat-room maniac. While a lot of smaller details are given a sometimes undeserved attention, there is no real depth involved in characters studies, in their motivations or actions/dialogs subtleties. Some important facts and even characters are completely overlooked (e.g. the boa-constrictor's possible future role). In the same time some of the authors' resulting theories (such as the whole Potter-is-Lupin mania) are not only weird but also presented as undisputable axioms. The obvious simplistic pro-Gryffindoric orientation is also irritating for an open-minded person. Not to mention the cheap publishing trick of huge amount of empty or almost empty spaces.
Rating: Summary: The most in-depth, fun, and entertaining guide ever! Review: Reading this guide was like reading the HP books for the first time. No lies, and no misadvertisement. The authors go through every line of the books, pointing out thousands of clues and hints, or just little tidbits that in the end we know lead up to things. JK's proven herself to be quite the tricky clue-hider, and based on a system of four rules, we are encouraged by these authors to go out and try our own Hp Sleuthing skills! The addition of emoticons and smileys keep the friendly tone we're given to read with, which in itself makes the book more entertaining. The section at the end of the book, where some possible theories are displayed, was an example of our potential; it doesn't have to be anywhere near what's going to happen, but it shouldn't be made fun of, it's unique. WORTH ALL 442 PAGES!
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: This book is the most in depth Harry Potter I have ever come across, with carefully researched data and rules of thumb that can be used again and again for all the books. Although it does resemble a computer document that hasn't been completely reworked (i.e. emoticons, misspellings) all that is worth it, and makes it more interesting to read. The book takes you through each of the HP series books, keeping up a running commentary and explaining when a key point has been made. At the end of the book, in the "restricted area" the authors tie together any loose ends by making preditions about the end of the 5th book and the ultimate end to the series.
Rating: Summary: a must read for ALL Harry Potter fans!!!! Review: WOW! That's about all you can say about this book. I mean, before I read this, I had my theories and such, but NOTHING like the one's Gladriel Waters presents. It opened my eyes to every clue that J.K Rowling puts in her wonderful books and it is amazing to find all of this insight. So if your twidiling your thumbs and waiting for the 5th book, or if your just obsessed like me, BUY THIS BOOK!!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent read for serious HP fans Review: This book was wonderful, detailed, and thought provoking. The theories are intriguing. And the rules they provide to keep in mind while reading HP are absolutely right. This has been a nice read to keep me occupied while I wait anxiously for Order of the Phoenix. It is highly recommended, and I hope to see a sequel analyzing Order of the Phoenix sometime in the future.
