Rating: Summary: Somewhere in Time=Great Review: This book is EXTREMELY good!!!!!!! That's all I have to say. But make sure and read the book first, not the movie.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as.... Review: Having read Jack Finney's "Time and Again" before reading this, I was more than a little disappointed with "Somewhere in Time." It took far too long for the author to set up the premise, and the actual romance takes place over two days. The book would have been much improved if Matheson could have come to the crux sooner and more convincing if he had given more details on the relationship between the three main characters. This is one of the rare cases where the movie was actually better than the book. Of course, Jane Seymour's beauty may have had something to do with that. If a reader is going to read one time travel romance, stick with Finney's novel. It is a truly wonderful tale and far more creative.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely For Lovers of Love, Romance, and Fantasy Review: I have read this book at least 5 times in the last 15 years and seen the movie of the same title at least as many. This is really Richard Matheson's best work, in my opinion, because it is so beautiful and tragic. The movie also is as haunting as the book, and if you liked Cameron's "Titanic", you will love this book. The ecstacy of young love and the tragedy that it only is transitory and can last perhaps only in heaven, but, unfortunately not on this earth - is the compelling feeling I got from it. If you are enchanted with rapturous euphoric love, you will enjoy this book many times over.
Rating: Summary: The ultimate expression of human longing. Review: While Matheson's "What Dream May Come" did not impress me in the least, this book is a masterpiece, a work of fiction that I will remember with the utmost fondness for the rest of my life. Anyone who has ever dreamed of finally attaining the love of their fantasies, only to awaken in bed with the harsh awareness that they were, indeed, only dreaming, can relate to this novel. I have never before or since read a book which made me feel the main character's hopes and desires as strongly as if they were my own. Buy this book and do not loan it out; my copy was borrowed 15 years ago and never returned.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever read, it's a keeper! Review: SIT is the most romantic love story I have ever read. I have not found anything better. It should be enjoyed by every generation.
Rating: Summary: This book changed my life. Review: I have never been interested in romance novels. The only reason why I read this one is because my grandmother had the sound track from the movie and I believe it is the most beautiful music in the whole world. Now, my next goal, is to read Bid Time Return(if I can find a copy). I hope you get a chance to read this book, enjoy it if you do.
Rating: Summary: Oh the memories... Review: I read this book for the first time in 1976 when my wife to be and I were staying in Coronado. For the last 10 years I have been searching bookstores worldwide for this book, both new and used. Thanks to Amazon my wife and I could enjoy our favorite novel in time for her 40th birhtday. Anybody who has ever spent anytime in Coronado, CA. staring in awe at THE HOTEL must read this as well as all romantics.
Rating: Summary: ALWAYS IN MY HEART Review: Are you the one? The question we all ask. This book is the one. It is beautifully written and the descriptions of the settings, clothing, historical timing and emotions is timeless and deeply moving. We dream of such a chance at love, with Bid Time Return, we have a chance to feel it, if only through the tender written word of Richard Matheson. I encourage all romantics to read this, it will touch you, and stay with you, until you find "the One."
Rating: Summary: Romantic, sad ...very sad made me cry Review: One of my favorite movies is Somewhere in Time so I was curious to see if the book was even better. I enjoyed the book immensely but did not like the whole idea of the man dying of a brain tumor from the start. From the beginning, you know this sad detail and it just makes you feel like, ok, so he's going to die anyway. I think if the author had left that part out, and just made the heroin a healthy man who has never found 'the one', the story would have been even better. Yet, I still loved this book and highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Classic time travel. Review: Many people have fond memories of the movie SOMEWHERE IN TIME. This is the book it was based on. Sweet. Romantic. If it came out now it would wipe those BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY books off the list.
