Summary: mind candy
Review: This book is very similar to all of Vonnegut's work in that you're almost embarrassed to enjoy it. it is so silly and ridiculous that you know you should be spending your time more wisely, yet on countless occasions you find yourself giggling uncontrollably or reading passages aloud to anyone within earshot. I generally am very annoyed by $20 books that take two hours to read, but again, somehow in Vonnegut's case I make an exception. Maybe two hours of silliness is all that I can allow myself to enjoy.

Summary: "If this isn't nice, what is?"
Review: Read this book! I've read every one of Mr. Vonnegut's books. My first, Slaughterhouse Five hooked me; (sorry about the semi-colon) I've been a fan ever since. "Timequake" is special, especially if it is truly his last novel. I hope it isn't. Books, his much more so than other's, "help us to get through this thing, whatever it is." MR VONNEGUT: I know you don't listen to critics, but listen up: I hope the tiny receiver in your brain begins picking up creative signals again, soon! Try this on for size: "You've been sick, but now you're well again, and there's work to do."

Summary: If you are a fan of Vonnegut's ideas, you'll enjoy this.
Review: If you are looking for a plot, rising action or deep characters, don't read this. For those of us who have been Vonnegut fans, it reads like a Bible of his ideas. The best parts of a good number of his novels are the prologues. This book is a 195 page prologue, with about 10 pages of fiction. I had the opportunity to read Timequake back in July, (about three months before its offical release date) and I was thrilled when I reached the final page. Many of his devoted readers find his humanistic ideas to be the best stuff he writes. This book holds more of that than any other he has written. His ideas on his own age and demise as a writer add a ton to this beautiful farewell to the philosophy of Kurt Vonnegut. If you are unfamilar with him, and looking for a great book to start on, go back to Slaughterhouse-Five, Sirens of Titan or Cat's Cradle. If you are familiar with his stuff, this book simply serves as a great companion piece to his other books.

Summary: You want to end like this?
Review: Good novel, well put together, but why end like this? With the greatness that Vonnegut had this novel is not up to par. The work he did in The Sirens of Titan was amazing, but he is not going to end like this, is he? Timequake was good. It had a good autobiographical nature to it, parts were excelent, but the old man trying to give something else to the publisher came out too much. This is a book to read while you concentrate on another, not one to put too much time, or thought, into. Fun in places but not top quality Vonnegut.

Summary: An enjoyable surprise (ting-a-ling)
Review: Timequake was a pleasant surprise. The old Vonnegut sparkle, wit, and -- most importantly -- humor were in evidence for the first time in quite a while. The book reminds me of the Breakfast of Champions days, mixed with the musings of Palm Sunday. Very enjoyable.

Summary: Timequake - all about our time
Review: Vonnegut always has a message he wants the reader to come away with after reading his stories. His hard look at time, his past time, his observations on our past time and his looking to future time, make the reader "timequake" his own "time" while reading the novel. Maybe not physically but, as I read, I timequaked often and realized that "yes, Kurt, I also continue to experience the same frustrations, make the same mistakes and, like you, can, at times, only laugh out loud about it. I recommend this "novel" to anyone who wants to get to know Vonnegut and him/herself a little better.

Summary: Bye-bye, Kurt
Review: Vonnegut apologizes in his prologue to "TIMEQUAKE" as the writer of a book which didn't work, had no point and had never wanted to be written. This admission and the temper of the remaining pages are somewhat revealing and depressing. Although he writes well and some of the stories are interesting, even humorous, it has a dark quality. Kurt pleads guilty right from the start to having started a novel, then contracting writer's block. It would have been merciful for his fans if he had also contracted writer's cramp. Perhaps that would have saved readers from paying ransom for his dark ramblings of discontent. Mr. Vonnegut, in this writing, exposes himself as a person at the end of his years who is disappointed about himself and life, not a happy camper.

The author did provide a few quotable sentences, for instance, the line where he states that homo sapiens were put on Earth to just fart around. For me, that's an adoptable, productive philosophy of life.

The usable parts of this book could have been written on less than 10 pages at most. Sorry, Vonnegut lovers, but this time he let us down.

My purchase of this book seems more like a contribution... to the Kurt Vonnegut retirement fund.

Summary: Goodbye, My Friend
Review: I loved this final effort. My favorite line was, "If brains were made of dynamite, he wouldn't have enough to blow his hat off." Ting-a-ling. I will miss Vonnegut's work so much. For those trying to find a plot, a plot is not always the point. Vonnegut is not for everyone. But, he is for me.

Summary: For Kurt V. fans only!
Review: If you like his other works, you'll love this book. However, for those not "initimate" with his style, flow, imagry, alter-ego Kilgore Trout, etc.. it may seem like a disjointed mess. It's a very unique premise, 100% Kurt. In short, I really enjoyed reading it, but would not recommend it to everyone.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: It's original, even when he copies himself!
Review: OK, let's be honest. He's old and admits himself that he ain't the writer he used to be. That being said, I very much ENJOYED reading this book. I laughed out loud. I thought about life, as corn as that sounds. It's like a long rambling, crazy, letter from an old friend you miss. I can't be ojbective and literary here. I can never do that when a book captures my imagination and makes me see that trying to be a clever critic is so much fooey fooey. Timequake is a great letter from an old friend. If Kurt V. isn't your cup of tea this book will annoy you. If you really love the guy's work you have to read it. Sure it's the same old stuff in a new package, just like an old friend you haven't seen. If you have a sense of humor and imagination-- and can forigive the faults of an old fart, you are going to love this book. Todzilla, Indonesia
