Summary: Perfection
Review: This is the most beautiful story ever written. Every child, and adult for that matter, should read it or have it read to them. The movie is wonderful too, but it's only a sampling of the touching and truthful language of the book and misses important pieces of the plot that add to the beauty and inspiration of the novel.

Summary: Truly unique.
Review: I think that what sets The Last Unicorn apart from other fantsy works is Haggard's reason for catching unicorns. If, say, Tolkien had written it the King would have been collecting them to use thier magic to conquer the world. Beagle gives Haggard a very simple motivation that fits in beautifully with the story.

Summary: One of the great modern fantasies
Review: The Last Unicorn has the distinction of being a book for everybody. It has a strangely sad happy ending for children, and enough considerative comments by the characters to make adults sit and think. The overall format is a traditional quest, where the unicorn, a creature of mystery, is searching for her lost fellows with the help of Schmendrick, an inept magician who longs for true power, and Molly Grue, a down-to-earth cook from a band of outlaws trying to be merry men. When by a stroke of fate the unicorn is changed into a human being while very close to her goal, she has to choose between love and immortality, a choice which will determine her success or failure. A touchingly beautiful story.

Summary: YUCK!
Review: I can see why someone would give people like The Last Unicorn. It has very poetic language, excellent descriptions, and can be very touching. But sometimes the plot lost, confused, or bored me. That was okay; it didn't happen very often, and the highlights made up for it. What I couldn't stand was that there were no "good" female characters, besides the unicorn, but she doesn't count because she's an animal. Was I the only one who found it offensive when in just the first chapter it says, "Pay no mind to young girls, for they never become anything more than silly old women." Because of that, I couldn't enjoy the poetic language, the excellent descriptions, and couldn't be touched by the more vivid parts. Because that just spoiled it for me. I kept thinking, "The guy who wrote this is a jerk. All girls become is silly old women! The nerve!" That, and the fact that no "good" female characters were brought in. No, all the work was done by males. I can't read when I'm angry, and that killed the whole book for me.

Summary: The most magical book in the world
Review: " THE LAST UNICORN" is a touching, memorable, and heart tugging book. From the absloute beginning, the book creates an atmosphere of pure magic. It is the most magical book ever written by a human hand. Unfortunaley the movie doen't fare as well, the film can't capture the beauty and complexity of the novel, so do what any intelligent person would do and read this book. Trust me... you will fall in love with this amazingly enchanting book.

Summary: Magical, Mystical and Beautifully Written
Review: I remember the animated motion picture from my childhood but read this book for the first time as an adult. It is one of the most beautifully written books I have ever read. The metaphors that Peter S. Beagle uses are rich and poetic, transporting the reader to another place in time. The beauty of this story brought tears to my eyes.
