Rating: Summary: Science gone berserk Review: Behind all the technothrills in many of Crichton's books and screenplays lies a message: once you start playing God, where do you stop? In "Jurassic Park", one of Crichton's better novels, there is a basic formula: Dinosaurs + Murphy's Law = Trouble. Our hero, Alan Grant, a paleontologist with a healthy respect for dinosaurs, and his assistant Ellie Sattler, a paleobotanist, have dug up some interesting dinosaur fossils in the Montana badlands. Into their camp comes an invitation from a millionaire entrepreneur named John Hammond with a proposal much more interesting: a visit to his unfinished theme park on an island off the coast of Costa Rica. Off they go in Hammond's private plane, with a lawyer named Donald Gennaro and a slightly wacko mathematician named Ian Malcolm who specializes in chaos theory. What they find on the island blows their minds into the stratosphere: Hammond's scientists have successfully managed to clone and breed living dinosaurs. Wowie-kazowie, what a terrific idea for a theme park! Or so say Hammond and Gennaro, thinking of the astronomical bottom line, but Grant, Sattler, and especially Malcolm, have their doubts: living creatures are unpredictable, you can't know what they will do or how they will react, and if something starts to go wrong in a small way, the subsequent chain of events will guarantee a screw-up in a big way. Chaos theory rules after all. ... And when the raptors prove to be almost as smart, and much stronger and faster, than humans, Murphy's Law starts to take over with a vengeance. ...There's a lesson to be learned in all of this and Crichton grabs us and propels us along in a dizzying ride through almost 400 pages, but the moral is clear: Just because you can try to play God, doesn't necessarily mean it's a great idea. Nature had a reason to make the dinosaurs extinct, and Mother Nature doesn't appreciate mere mortals messing in her business. Crichton's characters suffer from his usual lack of development, they're two-dimensional and never really leap off the page, which is the only thing that keeps me from giving this book five stars; because the story, and the dinosaurs, are so fascinating that Crichton could have written another 400 pages and held me mesmerized to the end. Whatever Crichton's deficiencies as a writer, he is one helluva story teller.

Rating: Summary: dino time Review: Dino Time Riveting suspense. These are the only words that can describe what I felt when reading Michael Crichton's "Jurassic Park" novel. Jurassic Park is a true bone chilling novel that keeps me wondering the whole way through the story. Plot is exquisitely displayed the whole way through the book, and gives characters a good walkthrough to the story. For example Dr. Grant plays the protagonist in the story. Dr. Grant gives a whole other point to the story. Dr. Grant gives a whole other point to the story because he is the only one with brains on the island. He chooses his actions very well. Dr. Grant is the coolest character because he's the one who thinks about how angry a dinosaur will be before confronting a raptor. In addition, the book is set up well and is sequenced so that you are always wondering what's going to happen next. There were few mistakes between sequencing which made events flow well into one another. The whole thought of dinosaurs being as smart as humans and having at least 8x there strength is spooky. Jurassic Park is well chosen and set up to make the reader want to keep reading and always wondering what kind of twist the book will give next. Characters in the story ran into many conflicts during the book. For example the dinosaurs break loose and wreck havoc on the park. After the dinosaurs escaped it was like I was right on the island with Grant and the kids. The Dinosaurs are crazy and will only attack the humans. Grant faces the t-rex two times and has to camp in the trees for a night. Just the thought of being afraid to go to sleep because you didn't know whether or not you would be alive in the morning would make me ill. Even though they had to run away from the dinosaurs, it was a good idea to camp up in the trees. Most meat eating dinosaurs cant climb that high therefore grant and the kids wouldn't be in danger. The conflicts that the characters encountered make this book all the more better to read and all the more better to have. Jurassic Park was an all around great book with action, suspense, and lots of personal conflicts. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good adventure book that takes them through a whole other world in a whole other time.
Rating: Summary: Prehistoric Trauma Review: Trhilling. This is the only word to describe a book as well written as Michael Chrichton's best selling Jurassic Park. Its fascinating topics and realism keep the readers at the edge of their seats. Jurassic Park is a convincingly detailed and highly entertaining novel. The plot in this story is extremely suspenseful and intriguing. Throughout the entire book the author's writing style makes the reader want to continue reading. For example, a suspenseful event is when the tyrannosaur breaks through the electric fence (186). After reading this conflict, it causes the reader to desire to read until the outcome of this event. In addition to the suspence in the story, the information is so realistic that it makes the reader actually feel like the events are happening around them. For instance, the author describes the features of a velociraptor when Alexis and Tim are encountered by one (330). The description of this prehisotric animal is so accurate that the reader can picture a clear image of a velociraptor in their head. The plot of Jurassic Park keeps the reader interested and eager to learn the future events in the story. I enjoyed this book because the main ideas are interesting. All of the topics kept me willing and wanting to read more. For example, the fact that John Hammond had "discovered a way to clone dinosaurs"(79) caused me to read more of the story. I kept reading because I wanted to find out how John Hammond had recreated these magnificent creatures.. Realism is also a strong part of this story. For instance, a realistic event is when the power fails in the park (174). This is an important part of the story because and event ike this often happens in people's every day lives, so the reader can relate to this event in the story. The interesting main ideas helped make this story a success. Jurassic Park became a best selling novel due to its suspenseful plot, interesting topics, and realism. Because of all these characteristics, I guarantee that any reader would enjoy this story. Overall, this novel is a great addition to all reader's collections.
Rating: Summary: Dna testing gone wrong Review: The book Jurassic Park is about a couple of Paleontologists who get suckered into a couple $20,000 dollars a day to come to this island, and help out in getting the park ready that has been created on this island. Until they get there to find out something else was in store and find out creatures from eons ago had been DNA cloned and brought back to life. So help me in reviewing the DNA cloning gone wrong. In this book the Characters lead semi boring life styles. As in any other book the main characters do run into problems. See I think personally if it we're me going to the island I would have said maybe if there was something else behind the money than maybe, but otherwise not me. It also bothered me that they went to the island and it's in the middle of nowhere with hardly any communications at all. But basically it's only Dr. Grant who really leads a boring life style, .... I would like to recommend this book to anyone who has a fetish for dinosaurs or long books about scientific experiments. This book is also proclaimed scary but once you read it your like oh wow that's not so scary.
Rating: Summary: Island of Dinosaurs Review: Island Of Dinosaurs The book Jurassic Park is a well written novel of suspense and realism. The author (Michael Crichton) has a very good imagination of what could happen if dinosaurs were still alive. If you like entertaining and intense books, this would be the book to read. The entertainment and intense parts in this book, makes it a good book. The story "Jurassic Park" shows a lot of brutal and intense parts. For example, the author tells in great detail about the attacks from the dinosaurs. Some parts in the book were explained in too much detail. The author must have a great imagination to think of some of the stuff that he did. The author does a good job keeping the reader on its feet. The author makes the reader want to keep reading. The author also ends each chapter as a mystery so that you want to keep reading to find out what happens. Even though the book had some brutal parts, it still has a good story behind it. "Jurassic Park" is highly entertaining and very realistic in many different ways. For an example many of the things that the author says seems realistic. The author has intelligent ideas that makes the book realistic. He also explains parts in the book in very good detail, almost like he was their to see it. Also theirs always something that goes wrong for the characters to solve. Like when Dennis shuts off all power to the park. Also when the dinosaurs escape from their cages. "Jurassic Park" is a well written book and is highly entertaining. Over all I enjoyed reading this book, because of the entertainment and suspense and how it was very intense. If I could grade this book, I would give it a A, because of its entertainment and realism. I recommend this book to all the people who like books that are exiting and intense and likes authors who keep you on your feet.
Rating: Summary: Jurassic Park...A Book to Remember Review: Don't be deceived by the title, Jurassic Park is unlike the movie. This book keeps you interested through out the whole thing, with constant action and suspense. Leaving the reader with a finished feeling, seeing as it has a grand and complete ending. Jurassic Park is creepy yet thrilling and can sound realistic, but it is only science fiction. Jurassic Park possesses a plot in which the plot keeps building up, and then explodes into an action-filled climax. When Dr. Hammond was a young lad his dream was to bring dinosaurs back to life. Hammond as a boy was a genius with many dreams that seemed to me impossible. But nothing is impossible. Then after about half a century of saving money and studying dinosaur's habits he finally got an island to put them on. After that it took Hammond a great deal of time to get scientists to help him with his near impossible project. Dr .Hammond genius only led him and his colleagues to grave danger. His intelligence only proves false in the long run. From the humongous T-rex to the clever raptors this book kept me interested through the whole book. I recommend this book to those who like thrills and eagerness. In fact, Jurassic park left me with the need to read the next one. Most likely it will leave the same feeling with any one who reads this book. If I were to read this book again I would probably enjoy this book just as much. On the other hand, it doesn't include any6thing emotional. For those who enjoy crying and feeling the characters pain, I wouldn't recommend this book to you. This was the perfect story for me because it was full of action and that's exactly what I like. Jurassic Park was a well written novel with lots of interesting problems. The storyline was well thought out and that kept me on the edge of my seat. I would recommend this book to pretty much anyone, for it is an awesome book. I couldn't put the book down.
