Rating: Summary: Whoa! Review: A great book if you loved the movie "Jurrasic Park"! Much, much better than the movie and a great page-turner! Loved every minute of it!
Rating: Summary: Best Book I have ever read! Review: Jurassic Park is the most wonderful book I have ever read. Scary and exciting, a winner! Very descriptive and draws the reader in. A definite page turner!
Rating: Summary: A Superb Read! Review: This was probably one of the best books I've ever read. There were a few things that I had a problem, but other than those one or two things the story was great. First I'll list the things I had a problem with:1) I think that the character development could've been a lot better in the story. Especially with Dennis Nedry. I couldn't really tell much about him from the way Crichton described him. 2) I didn't appreciate a lot of the excessive coursing that appeared in this book. Namely taking God's name in vain so many times. Apart from the above rants, I really enjoyed the book! I finished it in a couple of days since it's such a cliff hanger novel, and will keep you reading so make sure you don't have anything planed for the next couple of nights when you start it! It was also interesting because it was so different from the movie, which is one of my all time favorites. The characters are described much more differently in the book, and I have to say that I probably like the way the characters are described in the movie better than the book. It's rather a shock if you've seen the movie first and then read the book because it's so different. I'm glad they didn't kill off Muldoon because, at least in the movie, he was the best character, followed closely to Grant. All in all one of the best books I've ever read, and I'm off to buy the sequel, although I've heard it isn't as good, "The Lost World"!
Rating: Summary: this is a 4 and a half star book. Review: This book is not quite as good as airframe but still worth reading. ****1/2 to boot. Great reading and an ending too familiar.
Rating: Summary: Save your money; see the movie. This book is a loser. Review: Very rarely, a bad book is written which is made into a better movie. Jurassic Park is such a book. Science fiction is not a genre noted for strong characterization; usually, the science comes first, a workable plot comes second, and everything else is a distant third. Even by that standard, Crichton's characters are annoying at best. The computer genius is a total nerd, the attorney is an amoral lizard, and the industrialist could be easily replaced by a parrot which simply squawks "Bottom line" every 30 seconds. The scientists are, of course, merely humble, reverent seekers of knowledge and truth. With the exception of "Ian Malcolm", whose role in the book seems to be The Designated Smartass. Simply ignoring the flaws and getting on with the book is not an option - the personalities are so hollow, one dimensional, and stereotypical that enjoying any other aspects of the book is impossible. The book is not totally without merit - the initial premise is interesting, and portions of the plot are somewhat imaginative. Nowhere nearly enough to save the book, however. In short, an interesting situation, an unremarkable plot which has a few interesting twists, all of which is eclipsed by really *bad* characters.
Rating: Summary: A great book. Exciting to the end Review: This was one of Michael Crichtons best. Exciting from 1st page to the last. I couldn't put it down.
Rating: Summary: So True! Review: It left me on the edge of my seat - the best book I have ever read
Rating: Summary: Jurassic Park Rocks! Review: I loved this book! This is coming from a 12 year old who has read it 4 times! I didn't get a lot of the science stuff but oh well. It had things that weren't mentioned in the movie, like the Hadrosaurs and the Pterodactles. The river ride was radacle! It was cool how they fell down the waterfall into the reach of a Tyranosaur! Oops! For those who haven't read it, I suggest this be your next choice of reading material! Many things are different, changed, or not in the movie. The start of the Lost World movie is the begining of JP the book. Sooooo...... READ THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: Exactly what you'd expect from Crichton! Review: Exactly what you'd expect from Crichton. If this statement connotes good experiences, then read this book. If not, you'll probably not enjoy it all that much. Perhaps I'm not a pompous med student who wants to point out all the scientific flaws with this book, but hey -- are we really going to read "Jurassic Park" for research purposes? If you're looking for an exciting read, "Jurassic Park" is well worth it.
