Summary: I could see it happen better than I could in the movie!
Review: Excellent detail and descriptiveness. It is perfect for anyone who enjoys complexities and suspense, but can't stand boring parts. I remember when I first started reading it, I didn't think would like it too much. I read two more pages and after that, read 'till midnight, I swear. One of the things that keeps the book going is the continuous happening of events. Things never stopped popping up after that first part. Another thing was the accuracy on the dinosaurs. He describes every last detail right on the dot to last vertabrae on a tyrannosaur's tail, and I'm serious about that, 37 vertabrae, he says it. I'd give this book a 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000-star rating if I could, but they only let me put in five.

Summary: MUCH better than the movie...
Review: Like many who are familiar with Michael Chrichton, as soon as I found out they were making 'Jurassic Park' into a movie, my initial thought was: "GREAT!...but ONLY if they follow the book." Well they did an okay job (the effects were 1st rate, though) and yes, the story differed in MANY ways from the novel. I encourage anyone who enjoyed the movie to pick up this fast-paced story of genetic manipulation today. I DO have to admit they cast Jeff Goldblum PERFECTLY. He fit Ian Malcom to a TEE. He is one of my favorite fictional characters, and when you read the story you'll know why. One great annoyance I had with the movies was how a scene from the original 'Jurassic Park' book found its way into 'The Lost World' movie (the opening scene for instance, and the T-Rex thrusting its head through the waterfall...) and the ending of 'The Lost World' was SO different from the book as to make me wonder if they were going to release a novelized version of the movie since it was almost 100% different than the book. Dennis Nedry was another great casting job (remember Newman from Seinfeld...?) and, well forget the differences, this story deserves to be read, mostly because it is timely and incredibly entertaining. When was the last time you heard someone say the movie version of a book was better? In this case, the movie cannot even hold a candle to Chrichton's amazing story of bringing the dead back to life by use of genetic science. He almost makes you believe it could happen...The action never let's up, and the twists and turns and let's not forget the ending being totally different from the movie...it's just a GREAT BOOK. Get it! Read it! Enjoy it!

Summary: Another book by Mr. Chricton
Review: Mr. Crihton is a very nice guy who writtes a lot of good books for exemple:This book. Its a very good one but there is a little problem why should I read a book if I could just sit down a and watch TV.I have problem with that things.I don`t wanna see the book I have read on TV thats pain.

Ok.Back to book it is a good one with to much science involved in it or should I say it is making a dummy boy out of the science in other ways is very good book especialy for young reading population.

Conclusion: I won`t recommend it.

Summary: Jurassic Park - Abridged Audio [Reader: John Heard]
Review: Jurassic Park is one of my favorite books. Exciting and intelligent, it does not use stereotypes and is thrilling throughout.

That said, everyone hear this: the audio version is absolutely horrible! This is truly one of the worst adaptations of a book on tape. I tend to dislike any abridgement, but this is absolutely ridiculous. The whole book, approximately 400 pages in all it's glory, is condensed onto TWO TAPES! Most of the characters' fates are skimmed over like a simple footnote (they summed down Hammond's to one sentence). The reader, John Heard, is awful on this tape. He's below average for most of the tape, just trudging through the words; but at times he didn't even seem to have a firm grasp on proper inflection. Whole sentences failed to make sense when he ended statements like questions and vice-versa. There is very sparse use of sound effects, and when they are used they tend to distract instead of enhance. The only effective time special effects are used is during the aviary scene.

My advice: Wait for an unabridged version or read the book.

Summary: Jedi Girl Takes a Bite Out of Jurassic Park
Review: Cloning Dinosaurs used to be just a figment in the imagination for some little kid. Well not any more, John Hammond has used all of his power and money to create the best living Attraction Park in the history of mankind. When the park is about to open, Hammond brings some of the greatest in the fields of paleontology, palobotany, and mathematicians to sign off on the park, when their weekend get away turns into a tragic massacre. Of the 12 main characters about 6 make it off the island and they are faced with answering questions from to government about the park. This is probably the second best book that I have ever read. I just can't put it down until I've read the whole thing. Michael Crichton has a way with words that will just keep you riveted to your chair. If you liked the movie then you will love the book. So take this journey into your imagination the minute you "step" into Jurassic Park.

Summary: try this if you can handle blood and guts!
Review: The movie did the book no justice. This story captured the reader's mind and let thier imagination recreate the awesome and powerful creatures that have long been extinct. There are so many differences between the movie and book it would be almost impossible for me to name them all. I only gave this book four stars because some parts, like the scientific things and the DNA, were difficult to understand. But all that aside, if you liked the movie, try reading the book. Crichton has created a real masterpiece. if you have a weak stomach and don't think you can handle a man holding his own intestines, think twice, but other than that, read on!! (there are different characters in the book, so the book is a lot better.)

Summary: You can't put it down 'till the end!
Review: Something's coming. A new idea of bringing back the past, an idea that could turn the world into total chaos. A new technique has been formed to extract dinosaur DNA, allowing blood cells to form. Those blood cells, mixed with other materials, formed our greatest fear: dinosaurs. InGen has discovered a way to create the extinct creatures and form an amusment park with them as the main attractions. InGen's owner, John Hammond, invited Ian Malcom (a mathematician), two well known paleontologists, a lawyer, and the manager of InGen to an island off the coast of Costa Rica. On this island lays Jurassic Park. Experiencing the presence of these dinos is all too thrilling, until a storm knocks off the power with the help of Dennis Nedry, a computer expert. One-by-one the carnivorous dinosaurs eat off the visitors until only a handful are left. The T-Rexes loose in the park is a big problem, but a bigger one is the raptors. What will happoen in this world of total chaos? The world of chaos known as Jurassic Park..... If you love horror and thrilling scientific fiction, you'll adore "Jurassic Park" by Micheal Crichton. It's highly suspensful and you can't put it down until the end. It's the most thrilling book I've ever read. It's called "Jurassic Park".

Summary: Amazing Book
Review: One of the best books I've ever read. Crichton masterfully captures the essence of each character and vividly describes the dinosaurs, without taking away form the readers own imagination. Scientific facts are incredibly detailed. There are many characters but Crichton manages to develop each one.

Summary: Kudos to Messrs. Crichton and Spielberg
Review: Their talents to entertain and enlighten are richly rewarded, as well they should be. In a world where boredom is the biggest problem humans face, these may be the supreme contributions.

Now, to business

We have a story told first by Michael Crichton in book form, then by Steven Spielberg in motion picture form. The stories are different. Therein lies an opportunity . . . an opportunity to examine differing views of the world. I saw the movie, then bought the home video and viewed it over and over. Recently, I read the book to get some points for a reading program at my children's school. The book is good, really good, but it differs from the movie. The book is "darker" than the movie, in my opinion. But, the book came first, so shouldn't I discount what the movie did to the story? No. I love my right eye and I love my left eye. Each gives me a slightly different view of the world, but I don't plan to pluck either out. Stereovision is great!

What is different in the book and movie? For one thing, Tim and Lex switch ages. For another, Tim keeps his dinosaur expertise, while Lex picks up computer knowledge. A nice touch. One kid having all the smarts is one-sided, bullying if you will. Dr. Sattler was more believable in the movie, in my opinion, playing the huntress homing in on a father for her future children. Ian Malcolm showed he thought about something other than Chaos Theory. In fact, Ian should have spent even more time on sex and less on pitting his pitifully small theories against the vastness of Nature.

John Hammond, the entrepreneur, got quite a drubbing in the book. Maybe they made him a bit too cuddly in the movie, but some corrective was needed. John, the dreamer, the monomaniac with a mission, is believable when he pursues his vision in spite of setbacks and nay-saying. Could what he attempted eventually come to pass? Sure. Kitty Hawk (1903) to Concorde (1970); "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" (1870) to Nautilus (1954); "From the Earth to the Moon" (1865) to the Moon landing (1969). One hundred years is a long time. "Jurassic Park" (1990) to "Cenozoic Park (20--)" is only a matter of time.

Hammond's attempts to control populations by having only females came unglued when some females turned into males (read the book for details). Nature will not be denied, Ian said. Sex will out. Females started laying fertile eggs which hatched into young dinosaurs, thus breaking the population controls imposed by the designers. . . . Questions nag at the edge of consciousness: If today's controllers succeed in mashing all Races into one, will Nature eventually find a way for Races to re-emerge? Will Nature not be denied and Race will out?
