Rating: Summary: Science not-so-Fiction at it's best. Review: This is the center piece of Crichtons' work. Crichton has the skill to take a far away idea and make it real. How could dinosaurs exist today? Most dino movies or books are them selvs fantasy and lacking a reason for why dinosaurs are alive in modern times. Suppose that the technology advanced so that dinosaurs would not need to be transported through time or be robots, but to be recreated, alive in their full glory. How would one fund such an operation? What would be needed? Who be the ones to do it? How would it be done? How could you manage such an operation? etc. Crichton brings all the questions together, mixes it with fear and fact, and produces a very entertaining tail of greed and power.
Rating: Summary: Suspense!!! Review: A great book, way better than the movie. What more needs to be said?!
Rating: Summary: WOW! This book was totally awsome! Review: I would have givin it a four and a half star but i didn't know how. People don't want to read this book because they think they know what happens because they saw the movie. I pitty them because the book is filled with totally different conflicts, unlike the movie, it doesn't follow the same plot all the time. I realy enjoy this book so much because it's not just about dinosaurs getting loose on some tropical island, it has so much suspense because just like animals, dinosaurs can be unpredictable. Micheal Crichton really knew what he was talking about when he wrote this book because of the detail, its like your in the middle of it like a 3D movie at Universal! So i DARE you to read this book, you won't regret it, but just don't give up in tne beginning because its like a movie, it has an interview to the plot, then the action starts!
Rating: Summary: Plotless wonder Review: Several years ago I went with friends to see the movie "Speed." I was very impressed with the plot, which was as follows: there's a bomb on a bus; the bus goes fast; people shriek; this continues for two hours. Fans of "Speed" -- and apparently there were many -- will love Jurassic Park. Its plot: killer dinosaurs chase people around park; people shriek; this continues for several hundred pages. Hello? This isn't a novel; it's a situation, and an endlessly repetitive one at that. "Oh no! Dinos! Danger! A narrow escape! And then the heroes went another mile and -- oh no! More dinos! More danger! And another narrow escape! And then they keep going and -- can you believe it? They see more dinos and have to narrowly escape!!!" In addition, we have Crighton's usual characters: one-dimensional bad guys; one-dimensional good guys, and worst of all, the Crighton mouthpiece. Yes, you know this man well, for he parades through each and every one of Crighton's novels, preaching Crighton's own Crightonist philosophy and spouting oh-so-wise Crightonisms at the other characters (who generally try to ignore him, as do I). In this rendition, he is masquerading as a wounded mathematician who lies around foretelling doom and chiding everyone for not respecting Nature. Funny how a mathematician can sound *exactly like* an overrated Hollywood/New Age author who can't write a plot to save his life!
Rating: Summary: Good, but worst than the movie Review: I though Jurassic Park was a good book, making me read through it in less than a week. For a 400 page book, that's not a long time. It's got a lot more science than the movie, and that is the best characteristic of the book, making you learn a bunch of new stuff. It's even fun and interesting if you don't like science, like me. But the "action" parts are too long and it doesn't have the magic the movie has. Even so, it's good entertainment and a very good book.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book.... Review: I read this book twice, once before and once after the movie came out. While, I enjoyed the movie, the book was better. I guess you've probably heard that before. Anyway, this is Crighton at his best. A great mixture of fact and fiction, that is sure to impress the avid reader. The one recommedation I would have is for the target audience. I would probably only recommend this book for those readers who are ready to accept some chapters of scientific research. If you aren't patient enough to read through it, this book isn't for you. However, I do warn you. If you give up on the book, you will be missing a wonderful story.
Rating: Summary: I've never read a book faster than this one! Review: When I saw the teaser for the Jurassic Park movie I could not wait. I bought and read the book right away. I loved anything about dinosaurs when I was very young. Then as I got older I became less interested. This brought about a small dinosaur renaissance for me. As you read more and more the pace of the book becomes increasingly breathless. I wish the movie stayed a little more true to the storyline but I understand the edits with such a young target audience. If you've seen the movie do yourself the favour of reading the book. You will not be disapointed.

Rating: Summary: Exception to the rule Review: 9/10 books I read are better than the movie, but this is one rare case that I believe the opposite. The book is mostly slowed down by the excessive scientific discussions. It's not so much the conversations I don't like; it's when they have them. I also think that the characters make really dumb decisions; a prime example is late in the book, when Grant and the rest escape from the visitor's center and a helicopter is on it's way, they decide to 'check out' the raptor breeding grounds. Can't they wait an hour? Have they not put their lives on the line enough?? Surveying a nest of deadly predators that have been trying to kill me for the last twelve chapters would be the LAST thing I do! If you want excitement, watch Jurassic Park the movie. Or if you prefer reading, Lost World, which is the Jurassic Park sequel, is much better.
