Summary: A Must Have!
Review: If you are a Harry Potter fan, this book is a "must have" as a reference while reading. Rowling has really done her homework and Colbert helps you understand all the literary treasure that is buried within Rowling's text. As a Professor of English I would highly recommend Colbert's book to help explore the historical significance and creative genius of Rowling's novels!

Summary: A brilliant companion to the Harry Potter books
Review: "The Magical Worlds of Harry Potter" is a fascinating look at the myths and legends that provide inspiration for the content of J.K Rowling's work. Filled with facts and trivia, David Colbert's book provides detailed background information on the magical spells, creatures and people that together make up the world of our favourite wizard. This book is a must-have for all Harry Potter fans and a brilliant cure for those of us still suffering from deprivation as we wait for book five. Adults and children alike will love "The Magical Worlds" as we discover "Why would chocolate help after escaping a dementor?" "Why would Voldemort put the dark mark on the Deatheaters?" and all those other questions you never realized you were desperate to know the answers to. Beautifully illustrated with clear explanations, "The Magical Worlds of Harry Potter" is the perfect companion to the first four books in the series. Impossible to put down, this book answers a great number of questions and will definitely increase your enjoyment of the Harry Potter books.

Summary: How this type of book should be done.
Review: Very helpful resource for people interested in learning more about where Rowling got some of her names and creatures, etc. Exactly the way this type of book should be done. Much better, for example, than the similarly themed Beacham's Sourcebook Exploring Harry Potter, by Schafer.

Summary: A must read for Harry Potter fans.
Review: .

There are so many weird creatures in the world of Harry Potter it can be confusing to the average reader. Colber's book de-mystifies Basilisks, Egyptian spells, and more. It is an excellent reference and supplement for those who love the world's of Harry Potter.

I especially like the Latin, and Persian translations of names which make the Potter stories more interesting and explain what the names mean.

After reading about the historical reference to a real book--the "Malleus Maleficarum," written in 1484, I find myself incredibly curious about this book. According to Colber, this was, for two hundred years, the most popular book after the Bible.

There are lots of gems hidden in the book.

A must read for Harry Potter fans.

Summary: GREAT BOOK! A MUST FOR HARDCORE HP FANS!
Review: A very informative and interesting read about everything Harry Potter. I covers all 6 books, and has info chock full of hidden meanings, myths connected with characters, and a great compendium of all the spells in Harry Potter ever performed. But, I must point out there is an a large error in the book. He says that in the middle of the maze in the third task was the Goblet of Fire. It is not. It is actually the Triwizard Cup. That completely ruins a part of the book(Doesn't the third task seem like the knights of the round table?).

Summary: What's the big deal?
Review: Personally, I don't see what everyone's so excited about. While there's nothing better than learning more about the facts and myths behind Harry Potter, it seems to me like David Colbert threw this book together in an awfully big hurry. Subjects like alchemy (ie, the making of the sorcerer's stone) and divination are discussed in much less detail than they could be, while much of the book is made up of filler--such as a three-page(!) quotation from "The Sword in the Stone." And why Colbert chose to frame the book a series of rather contrived questions is a mystery to me. Did I ask "Which is the least likely magical creature?" or "Which creature doesn't know when to say goodbye?" No, I didn't. Personally, I'm looking hoping for something better in the next of what's likely to be a series of books similar to this one.

Summary: A MUST READ FOR ANY HARRY POTTER FAN!
Review: ONE WORD: AMAZING! NO, WAIT. I FORGOT ONE: INCREDABLE! OKAY, OKAY, JUST ONE MORE: WOW! I THINK YOU GET THE POINT.... ANYWAY,ANY HARRY POTTER FANATIC MUST, MUST, MUST, MUST, MUST GET THIS BOOK! I'VE READ THE HARRY POTTER SERIES SEVEN TIMES AND NEVER PASS UP A CHANCE TO READ MYTHOLOGY, AND I STILL FOUND SO MANY THINGS THAT I DIDN'T KNOW. THIS BOOK HAS INCREDABLE REFERANCES TO HISTORY, AND QUOTES FROM VARIOUS LITERARY WORKS. IT INCLUDES CHAPTERS WITH SUCH INTERESTING TITLES AS: "WHY WOULD VOLDEMORT PUT THE DARK MARK ON DEATH EATERS?" "WHY WOULD CHOCOLATE HELP AFTER ESCAPING A DEMENTOR?" "WHY WOULD DURMSTRANG STUDENTS TRAVEL BY SHIP?" "WAS THE REAL FLAMEL A SUCCESSFUL ALCHEMIST?" "WHICH REAL-LIFE CREATURE STILL ELUDES SCIENTISTS?" "WHY IS EACH MALFOY APTLY NAMED?" "WHERE DO THOSE NAMES COME FROM?!" "WHAT MAKES HARRY A UNIVERSAL HERO?" "WHAT KIND OF NIGHTMARES CREATED VOLDEMORT?" AND "ARE ANY OF THE 'FAMOUS WITCHES AND WIZARDS' REAL?" THIS BOOK ALSO INCLUDES AMAZING PICTURES. ALL OF MY MOST PRESSING QUESTIONS ABOUT HARRY POTTER WERE ANSWERED! I HAVE NEVER READ A BOOK WITH SO MUSH INTERESTING INFORMATION!

CAUTION: IF YOU HAVE NOT READ ALL OF THE FIRST FOUR HARRY POTTER BOOKS AND THE TWO SCHOOL BOOKS, SOME IMPORTANT SECRETS MAY BE REVEILED! OTHERWISE, ENJOY!

Summary: easy research
Review: This book offers a very easy way to find out the meanings of some of the words and names JK Rowling uses in her books. It is filled with other literary references in regards to mythology and legendry and contains a plethora of intereting facts. I would reccomend this book to other Harry Potter fans because it makes one appreciate how well-read and creative Ms. Rowling truly is.
