Rating: Summary: A review of this series Review: I started reading fantasy at abou age twelve, and quickly graduated to sci fi.I have read all the favorites Brooks, Card, Asimov ,ect, ect, ect.(Yes I loved The King and I).And I have to say this series can be read over and over again.I have to say this because after reading Tolkiens series(Appologise to Tolkiens fans) I just could not take fantasy anymore. It all just seemed to predictable. Then I picked up The Eye of the World on a whim about five years ago and was hooked. This series is what fantasy should be.I have read The Path of Daggers and look forward to reading it again. My only dissapointment was the absence of Mat.But I am sure he will return soon, and probably leading Artur Hawkwings armies. Thankyou Mr.Jordan sir I look forword to the next book.
Rating: Summary: nicely organised information but very poor illustrations. Review: I would expect from R. Jordan who in truth is an excellent writter and whose work and world reaches in authenticity and brilliancy that of J.R.R. Tolkien, to demand a much higher capability and talent from the person chosen to illustrate this wonderful book. I was trully disappointed by the drawings and I am obliged to say that I personally have a couple of friends who could illustrate this book with much higher accuracy and drawing ability. All the pictures, except the covers of the 7 books, are failures. The Dragharr is alien-like, Aviendha who is supposed to be of wild and amazing beauty is rather ugly and most of all, Lanfear who by the words of R. Jordan is one of the most beautiful women if not the most beautiful, of all ages, is like a cheap comic figure. On the other hand this guide proves to be valuable for the "Wheel of Time" fan and its contents are summarising the whole world and its known history in the best way. I wish that in the future R. Jordan will choose another artist to re- draw the characters. Only then, his fans will be able to forget the present failed ones...
Rating: Summary: Book? Good, Art work? not so good Review: Well I liked the book. It told you a lot about the history of all the different classes of people and told a lot about the world itself. That I really enjoyed. Now about this art work. All I have to say is that most of the characters in this book that were drawn looked nothing like how I pictured them to be. I was saying to myself, is this how Jordan had those characters pictured? Well, I'll leave it to him to get a better artist. but it is a good book nonetheless and if you are a big fan of WoT like me, you might as well add it to ur collection.
Rating: Summary: Jordan, how far have you fallon? Review: Look, don't get me wrong. I love the wheel of time books. They're great!!! They arent some slapped together piece of **** just to put a publishing label on and get a sale. I mean come on, typos that my 8 year old nephew caught. If Robert Jordan Can't get a little bit of a better publisher himself, I feel sorry for him. As an artist (and on and off writer) myself, I understand how important good descriptive storylines should go with the writers artwork. The pictures should match EXACTLY what you had in mind when you created these creatures, people, and lands. Major charectors were missing, which is a real shame, they would have made nice additions to this book. The artwork though, I mean really. Robert Jordan pulls ALOT of weight in the world of publication, and he should demand a better artist to draw his stuff. Keith Parkinson, for example would have made a great set of drawings. Take a look at his site if you want to know what I am getting at. Don't buy this book unless you are either: A: a stalker of Robert Jordan B: out of your bloody mind C: won the lottery and decide to actually spen $50 dollar bills instead of lighting cigars with them D: Dumb enough to believe God is a sugar packet
Rating: Summary: $40. Come on. Review: I tend to agree with what a number of people have been saying about this book. Most of the artwork is, quite frankly, terrible. Don't get me wrong as a reference book I've found it almost invaluble, but that's not the reason I wanted it. I had heard that the artwork was to be fantastic, and I was excited to see what I'd heard were going to be wonderful renderings of a fascinating world. I didn't get that. It's good, but not what I'd hoped for.
Rating: Summary: Was excellent. Filled in the missing links perfectly. Review: I loved this book. It told all the interesting details without making you search through the books themselves. As a reference, thic can't be beat. I have looked through this book many times and learned a little bit about everything every time. If you like the Wheel of Time in the slightest, this is the book to have. It will definitely come in handy. One word of warning, though, read all the way hrough the series before you read this. It could be a definite spoiler. Overall this book is spectacular.
Rating: Summary: Good info, not good art Review: There is a lot of original information here, on the mysterious land of Shara, for instance. If you like the complexity of the Wheel of Time series, you will like seeing the summarized information from the series too. The art work does not capture the personality of the characters, and sometimes it does not even reveal what sex they are very clearly. The characters described as most beautiful or handsome come off looking no better than those described as looking average. The faces have no expressions, so that there is little to distinguish one drawing from another. The maps are informative, and they are much better than trying to draw them out for yourself using hints from the series. Only for a die-hard Robert Jordan fan.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: While not quite up to Silmarillian standards, with this book Jordan has officially taken the torch out of JRR Tolkien's hands. The insight into the history of Randland, such as Hawkwing, the Forsaken, and the Age of Legends, is almost worth the high price of the book. The artwork (their word not mine) certainly left something to be desired. I wasn't expecting Alan Lee/Ted Nasmith fantasy paintings, but this was really bad. I've seen amatures draw better pictures out of sheer boredom. Still, I would recomend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: I thought that the refrence content was great. Review: But the art content really sucked, THe pictures seemed not to fit the characters profiles at all except for Fail, perrin, Lanfear, Rand and the shadowspawn. I also noticed a lack of two people, the former keeper of the staff and MIN , she is one of rands lovers and a major part of book and u dont even include her, that is in sulting
Rating: Summary: Bought for a friend, hates the art. Review: I bought this book for my friend but I have to say the pictures SUCK. I mean let the author at least see the pictures ( they probley did not). The best art was borrowed form the books themselves. This has good info but the art work is poor. The worst is the people. If you really want this book drop a hint to someone about it for a gift.
