Rating: Summary: Don't judge a book by its cover artist Review: I have read the entire series so far, and have never been disapointed in the content of his books. He provides a rich and animated world of calibur not seen since Tolkien's famous works. This is not your average rehash of dwarves and elves, or any other fantasy epic. Well, there is a prophesy spoiler, given in the first book. This in my opinion spoils the ending of the book series, leaving the reader with a soap opera style epic. For fantasy readers looking for something new and original, this is it. As for the artwork, well, I usually put post-it notes covering them up. Since my time in art school, looking at pathetic artwork sends shooting pains behind my eyeballs.
Rating: Summary: Good only if you want every possible piece about the WOT Review: My apologies to the artists who worked on this book. I feel bad for what I'm about to say about somebody's work. However, the art in this book is so bad that it actually ruins the entire experience of reading. It's so ugly that you simply can't stand to look at it. I don't know who thought that the art submitted was good enought to be included, but they are almost certainly related to either Robert Jordan or Teresa Patterson who "co-wrote" the book. It's almost childish the quality of work contained here. Perspectives are off, the colors are unwisely chosen, and I pray that the character protrayed look nothing like this in "reality". And another thing...who the heck is Teresa Patterson? Was Robert Jordan too busy to explain the world he created himself? I mean come on. Is this woman some sort of expert on the wheel of time? I mean the writing is okay, but it's also poorly orgainized and not too insightful. I imagine that a 14 year old fan could've written a better description of the history of Jordan's universe here. Get this book only if you want every possible scrap of garbage you can get on the Wheel of Time.
Rating: Summary: Full of interesting information. Review: When i bought this book, it took me awhile to get into it, but once i started reading it more frequently, i wasnt dissapointed. It goes into great detail explaining anything and everything that you could think of in the Wheel of Time universe. I definately recommend this book if you are a fan of Robert Jordan's extremely popular books. It tells you the past of all the forsaken, and goes into great detail about all of the major and minor lords/ladies and lands in which they control. Definately a must for any WoT fan!
Rating: Summary: Excellent as a cross Reference Review: If you are like I am and want to devour all the little hints we are given in this story, this is an excellent cross reference, easier to use than a couple volumes of the series. The art work, however, is of poor quality, and does not come anywhere near the standards of the covers of the books. It does have the first few covers represented in the center of the book and they are the same covers and the quality of them is the same, but the rest of the art work is, in mine opinion, horrid and entirely too pastel in how it looks. The maps are excellent, but there are not enough of them. This book does allow for more information to be given to the readership without having to tie up Mr. Jordan by making him write an extra novel, but so far that information has not had any effect in the series.
Rating: Summary: Expensive and incomplete Review: I was a big RJ fan until the money starting rushing instead of trickling out of my pocket for a continuing decline of quality. The Guide was one of the worst wastes of money I have been guilty of-and without any pleasure. The Guide only expands a bit on information that is already available in the series or can be extrapolated easily. I read that there will be another guide at the end of the series(if that ever happens). If you are thinking about getting this-wait. Get the true *complete* Guide.
Rating: Summary: good supplemental material Review: this is a good supplemental to have with the books. in the 9000 pages or so of reading we've all done so far, it's hard to get the history of his world down, so it's nice to see it more organized and not scattered through the current story. i just hope we get more immersed in the shara and seanchan worlds. that would be fun. it would be a waste if we don't actually see those two worlds, if all the action happens only in the current land.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as expected.... Review: I am a HUGE fan of Robert Jordan, and the entire Wheel of Time series. I recommend this book, but it is not as good as I hoped it would be. Whereas it does discuss many of the aspects of the Wheel of Time (as an encyclopedia), it changed some of my views of the characters and places. The artwork was not as well done as the book cover-works.
Rating: Summary: A Must Read for WoT fans Review: As a major fan of the WoT series, I was very excited when I finally got this book. It answered a great many questions that I had. It's rather like reading the Book of Genesis. I mean it explained what the world was like before the breaking, and how things came to be. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has read or is starting to read Jordon's series. The illustrations are good too.
Rating: Summary: Wheel of Time returns Review: While this isnt a story in itself it can help to answer those long put off questions you might have about your favorite wheel of time characters. I knew what this book was when I bought it, and was only disappointed by one thing, the graphics. The details about the forsaken and such were great, but I guess when you read a series you get your own images of characters, and when those images dont match what you have in your head you can be disappointed. Never-the-less I would buy this book again in a heartbeat. If you are a fan, consider this to fill out some of those characters.
Rating: Summary: Good source of info, but where is Min? Review: This book is a very detailed book giving you insight into the world of the Wheel of Time. However, I found it dissapointing in some respects. 1) Where is Min? one of the most important charecters is not mentiond ANYWHERE in this book! 2) I found a typo in the flag for the Aes Sedi. they are missing the brown stripe i think.
