Summary: UGH!!!
Review: I don't understand why a series of this calibur has artwork this crappy. If I were the author of a hit series I'd want the best possible drawings representing my book possible, wouldn't you? Must hang my head in shame for old Rob....could have done better...much, much better.

Summary: A MUST HAVE! (For serious collectors only)
Review: All I can say is..."USE THE SPELL CHECK BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR WORK!!!" Sheesh, typos and errors that even a non-fan would find.

The book, in and of itself is a treat...but it must be taken for what it is, no more and no less. For WOT fans who love the series and collect the books (I have all of the hardcovers and plan to put this book up with them) this book, while seemingly put together by someone who is both blind and suffering from serious retardation, is a must have.

If someone had spell-checked the master copy and followed through with a little "debugging" of the facts, it would be a marvelous book. I was, personally, put off by the poor standard of quality and if I didn't want the book to fill a space on my wall, I would never buy it.

Robert Jordan is clearly a great writer...something tells me he didn't even read the final copy before this went to print. Someone is responsible and they should really have done more for the book, considering it's price and the author's reputation. They could have made this book 150 pages and it would have been better if it was more accurate and detailed. It seems that someone wanted over 300 pages and just went about filling them without much regard to substance. Robert Jordan should really be seriously pissed off by this book.

People are constantly comparing Jordan with Tolkien...but seriously, would Tolkien have put out a "book" like this? I've seen some illustrated guides to Tolkien's work that overshadow this offering like a redwood towering over a dead raccoon. Simply put:Quality, Substance & Detail are all missing from this guide.

For the money and for Jordan's reputation, this book should have knocked me on my ass, but as most of you will see, it won't even nudge you in the shoulder...again I reiterate, buy only if you need to, but do NOT go to Amazon.com and just order it. I urge you to take a trip to your local bookstore, get a copy and read it...flip through it...make sure it is what you expect it to be...then go back to Amazon and buy it if you are sure you really need to have it. Currently it is 30% off! Whatta deal!!

Summary: Jordan's writing continues downhill.
Review: There are numerous reviews on this page for which I am eternally grateful, they saved me from wasting the money. (Some, especially the reviewer from New York, were very well written). They write about the book far better than I could. I have to wonder..I found Crown of Swords to be by far the worst Jordan book, are we dooomed to descendingly worse books? Will he just spend some time on the next two and wrap it up? *arg....venting frustrations*

Summary: Essential reference to Fantasy Fictions best series.
Review: Robert Jordan has excelled yet again with this essential addition to the Wheel of Time series. Written from the perspective of a near period historian, the book offers an in-depth of the amazingly descriptive world Robert Jordan has created.

Including several full page color portraits and maps, The World of Robert Jordan's wheel of time allows those who have followed his series from The Eye of the World through A Crown of Swords to review in one well-organized work, all that has been described. Fans of the series will not be dissapointed for the delay the writing of this book may have created for Jordan's next novel in the series.

Summary: A waste of Time and Money
Review: I never thought I would say it, but this has "Sell Out" written all over it. I like many other Fools saw this book and bought it without hesitation. However, I will not make the same mistake again. Once I saw the so called picture of Loial, I calmly put the book down, hid it in the back of my bookshelf, and tried to pretend that I didn't waste almost 40 dollars on this garbage. I expect a masterpeice in book 8. And it had better offer some resolution that book 7 certainly did not offer.

Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK
Review: If you haven't already bought this book, DON'T. The artwork could have been done by a twelve year old (and it might look better if it had been), and the maps look like they were done by a first grader whose crayons have gone berzerk. I was extremely dissapointed with what Jordan has thrown out now, and I believe that I am agreed with by many of my fellow wheel of time fans. It will take "A Path of Daggers" coming out really early (like tomorrow) to compensate for this.

Summary: What A Waste of Time
Review: As we await the next installment in this worthy series, I figured this Guide would be a healthy little nugget of WOT to tide me over.

I was wrong.

Personally, I think that Mr. Jordan had nothing more to do with this book than splashing his name across the cover. It seems to me that he just let Ms. Patterson loose in his world and told her to dredge up of some history, and nevermind if it sounds convincing or even plausible. I am outraged that he expects people to buy this book merely because he was associated with it, and offended that he felt that he could simply exploit the popularity of his series by tossing this error-ridden, typo-chocked and cliche-filled volume of hogwash, clap-trap and nonsense at us. I can only look upon the glowing reviews of others on this board with pity and scorn. It seems that rabid fans will cluelessly bedeck any work from Mr. Jordan with the garlands of their loyalty and the laurels of their appreciation, no matter how purile and disastrous the work is. A word to my fellow WOT fans. Authors must earn fan-devotion. And they can lose it. Do not allow yourselves to become nothing more than syncophnatic loons who will toss money at Jordan. Make him deliver quality in exchange for our patience and our money.

With regards to the art, all that I have to say will merely echo what I have said already. It seems that Mr. Jordan simply turned Mr. Hamilton loose and said "here draw me non-descript people and then we'll try and match them to the characters." It is extremely irksome that characters who are described in meticulous detail, in a consistent fashion for several volumes are completely distorted and perverted here. Lots of things are incorrect also in the pictures, be they anatomical or textual. For those of you who blithely say "So what if the art is bad. This wasn't meant to be a picture book!" all I can say to you is that you are as wrong as wrong can be.

Allegedly, the sole justification for this book's high cost was supposed to be the number of pictures in color on fine glossy paper. Moreover, it was originally to be titled "The Illustrated Guide." They abandoned the illustrations, and the emphasis on the pictures, yet they kept the exhorbitant price. And people still paid for it and make excuses for it. You should all feel exploited and condescended to. The price of the book was meant to reflect the quality and quantity of the illustrations. You paid a lot of money for them. Do you feel you got you money's worth?

I've returned mine and postage and handling be damned.

Summary: Welcome to the land of disappointment
Review: Luckily, I didn't actually buy this book; I borrowed it from a friend. The art left so much to be desired and the typos and inaccurate portraits were horrible. Robert Jordan has created a fantastic world and left incompetent work to mar his masterpiece.

Summary: The book really helped to explain the way their world works.
Review: The book has great graphics and the explaination and past events help readers to better understand what has and will happen.

Summary: dont pass this one up!
Review: I have been looking forward 2 this book for 4 or so months and I fanaly got it today, and I love it. Some of the art work to this guide is less than impresive, but there are some good pictures. But this is NOT a picture book, and hey WoT was never ment to be. What this does have is VERRY good info, and a GREAT layout, that I really like. If you are a Robert Jordan fan get this, it is 40.00 but i think it is WELL worth it, i would love to awnser any questions at asmodean3@hotmail.com
