Summary: A good, but not definitive, guide to the Wheel of Time.
Review: I admit, this book is flawed, especially in terms of artwork (You know you're in trouble when the most visually appealing part of the book is the gallery of Darryl Sweet's cover art). Still, the book is required reading for all Wheel of Time fans. Jordan says he plans to write a complete encyclopedia of the Wheel of Time once he finishes writing the series. Until then, this is probably the best source of information for fans of the books.

Summary: It was great!
Review: Well, I really can't understand why all of you people are so dang picky. I've just started the series and this book is a Godsend, it helps me in everyway possible. A few typographical errors? Reading all of your reviews I've found about 15. No one is perfect, no one will ever be perfect, don't expect it. The pictures were fine, all you people are going crazy because someones eyes are supposed to be blue, but in the pictures they are blue green! Big Whoop! I think it is wonderful that Mr. Jordan and company took the time to write out this book so that the storyline is easier to follow. I give Jordan a pat on the back for this one.

Summary: We did read it FraQ. It bit.
Review: Yes FraQ, we read it. We read the book and were apalled by the typographical errors and horrendous syntax. Tor is supposed to be a major publshing house. We have every right to expect flawless work. It's not here. That's strike one. It is difficult to see the matter of what is being written if it's a travesty of spelling errors and punctuation flaws.

Now, about the material. It's pathetic. There is absoutely no new information about the current world. It merely spews out facts from the series, and then it's an incomplete transfer. If it's a Encyclopedia of WOT, than it's a woefully incomplete one. However, it does throw out some silly nonsense about archaic WOT history, but it's insipid. A lot of what it mentions is inconsistent with the novels, or just plain silly. The writing is banal and workmanlike. Moreover, it obliterates the intrigue and compelling nature of some of the characters like Asmodean, by creating some 'token' atrocity just so he seems Evil(tm). The Guide is nothing more than a poorly executed attempt at syphoning more money oout fans. That's strike two.

Finally we come to miserable illustrations and recycled book icons. Quite frankly, we didn't need any of these horrible and inaccurate pictures, and if their inclusion in this book was the sole justification for the high cost and fine glossy paper, then I'd say it was a waste. The shameless attempt at packing this book with nonsense and poor art in an attempt to make it look much more substantial and comprehensive is strike three.

This book was given to me as a gift.

It makes a lovely doorstop.

Summary: concerned reader
Review: Thanks for the warning abou the book guys. What I would like to know is why the hell R.J. is goofing aroud with anything but the sequels to the W.O.T.

Summary: Please, Its just a helpful guide.
Review: Yes, It does have some down sides, but art work and typos aren't everything. The info was useful and it did not in anyway ruin any of the mysteries of the series for me.

Summary: Someone Needs a New Pair of Glasses
Review: That about sums up what I saw in this unimpressive text. I had just finished Crown of Swords and was happily suprised to see this on the shelves (although I would have preferred the next installment) but a quick perusal told all I needed to know. Someone needs a new pair of glasses. Although I am sure the artist meant well, I believe that she must be a really good friend of Mr. Jordan's, for only friendship could explain how a man able to paint such brilliant illustrations in the reader's mind with the written word could fail to see the pedantic and amatuerish art displayed within. Next time, lay aside the friendships and choose a peer of equal stature. A lack of illustrations would have been better.

Summary: This was a GREAT book.
Review: How can you give it a one? Did you even read it? It talks about so many things in great detail that were left open and unexplaned in the series. It was like an encyclopedia of WoT. SOME of the pictures were not that good (The White Tower looks like an office building and Verin looks like a substitute teacher I once had) but some of them are great (Lanfear). It is not just reiterating facts from the series. It is going deeper into the tellings of the wheel. Try NOT to read this book and see what you miss. When the wheel of time series ends (knock on wood) and there will be questions left open that are in this book let us see who has the last laugh. The World of Wheel of Time is a great book for WoT fans to own. It is pricy but it is printed on super quality paper. They should of made it in paperback too (I would of still purchased hard cover anyway). Well that is waht I have to say. Get this book for a christmas present if you don't want to shell out $40 for it. Adios et Au demain.

Summary: I supported book 7 but there is a limit
Review: Imagine a book full of richly detailed full body shots of all the main characters from the series painstakingly hand rendered while paying attention to the smallest detail. A thorough history of the world and accurate ilustrations of important places and objects. Imagine all this presented on the highest quality thick smooth paper. Now with this in mind open the world of robert jordan's the wheel of time and try not to cry. For a book such as the one i described above i would gladly pay $100 for what was published i begrudge the publishers every cent they made on it. I remained loyal through the backlash that accompanied book 7 seeing the book as a brillint lead-in to book 8, but with this offering robert jordan has shown he is motivated to write by money and not particuarly concerned with his fans. I fail to see how, after describing the charcters several times in exacting detail through out the series he can fail to cringe when seeing the drawings. They are small inaccurate headshots obviously drawn by someone who hadn't read the novels. Avoid this, it will completely destroy your love in the series and their charcters. To redeem himself book 8 had better be somethiong else. Are you at all annoyed by thhe typos in thise review because there's a hell of a ;ot more in the book.

Summary: Flawed editing and artwork weaken WoT
Review: While I concur with much that has been said about this guide, especially the typos and the god-awful artwork (what did she do, save Jordan's kids' lives?), there were parts of it I found fascinating, especially those referring to the Forsaken and the Age of Legends, especially since Jordan has stated it very unlikely he will do a work based on that period. I would recommend this book to the collector who must have all the books in hardcover, but I would ask for it as a gift, as it isn't near worth the asking price. I get the feeling that (being familiar with this business) that it is likely that TOR insisted on this work and may have badgered Jordan into doing it. I hope the poor editing and some content is due to Jordan committing more time to Vol. 8 of his series, which is where his attention should be. Don't lose faith Jordan fans!

Summary: not bad, mmmmmmm but maybe not good?
Review: The book does have some typos and discrepencies with the series, but keep in mind that this book was probably(?) rushed. It was not completely written by Jordan either. And the info in the book has supposedly been passed down from generation 2 generation. The guide was written by the 'omnipotent' one. I am still waiting for the Path of Daggers, god-speed to the pen of Robert Jordan
