Summary: Gripping, adventurous, remarkable, moving, and much more.
Review: Octavia Butler has written a powerful, life changing story. She takes the reader on a great science fiction journey, while at the same time, teaching the reader about the American slave experience. This book pulled me into its grip from the first word to the last. When reading it, I found myself caught up in the book, living with the characters and sharing their experiences. Butler's imaginative work, Kindred, is one that I highly recommend to everyone, regardless of age. This book moved me and was one that I truly loved reading.

Summary: Kindred - A unique science fiction novel
Review: I don't normally enjoy science fiction novels, but this story was a major exception due to the fact that it was so interesting and I was really intrigued by the writing of Octavia Butler, who is a very realistic as well as unique writer. The reason Kindred is so unique is because of Butler's distinctive style and outlook. I really liked the style and subject choice of this novel and the fact that Butler decided to add to the story the idea of moral choice, which is one of the hardest choices any persons can face.

Summary: Octavia Butler - Merging Social Concerns with Sci-Fi
Review: Kindred was the very first book by Octavia Butler that I read. Unlike many science-fiction writers, she spends no time discussing the dynamics of time travel, which for a tale of this emotional magnitude, is a good thing. Kindred is hard book to read and it leaves you with so many questions; I have never looked at history in quite the same way. That is the hallmark of good writing, when it leaves you with much to think about. Also, Octavia Butler was the only black woman writing science fiction at the time, and so she became a role model to me.

Summary: A wonderful story
Review: And I did not even think I would like this book. Not being a fan of science fiction or stories about slavery, I was reluctant to pick this book up. Once I did I could not put it down. I was just entrigued throughtout Dana's ordeal. I will say this one is a much read.

Summary: 45 people can't be wrong
Review: Looking at these reviews you have to wonder, who DIDN'T enjoy reading Kindred? I read the novel during summer vacation, it took me just 2 sittings to read the entire novel. The plot grabs your attention from the very start, which was a smart move by Ms. Butler, she gets into the history later, but pulls you in first. And once you get pulled in you WILL NOT want to put this book down. If you're wondering if you should buy this book or not get it at your local library first, you won't regret it. I've read it 5 times and it's only gotten better since. I've just started looking into reading some of Ms. Butler's other works, but Kindred is by far my all time favorite. I've have 3 books tied for second (Rebecca, Phantom Tollbooth, and The Tao of Pooh) but Kindred just blows them all away. This is a MUST READ book!

Summary: A wonderful piece of literature
Review: My 7th Grade class last year read this book. We all loved reading this page turner, and after we finished we had a phone conversation with Ms. Butler, the author. As an African American, this book gave me a great insight into a tragic period for my people. This book was so good, and i learned alot about history at the same time.

Summary: Loved it!
Review: I'm an avid reader of African-American authors, and found Kindred at a local bookstore. I read it in less than 24 hours. It's one of those books you can't help reading quickly, but wish you could go slower because you don't want it to end. One of the very best books I've ever read.

Summary: Looking for more African American Sci Fi
Review: Half way through the book, I started thinking: Is she the only one out here doing this? She is awesome. I wasn't really a fan of Science Fiction, and the only reason I bought the book was because the protganist was African American. Because the book was not that expensive, I figured it would not be that great of a loss. I was right. I only had to gain from reading Butler's writing. This is a definite must read!

Summary: My all time favorite
Review: This book introduced me to the world of Octavia Butler. I found it while I was walking up and down the aisle in my Library in high school. The title and the book summary caught my attention. I read it then too fast and was just amazed at Butler's Creativity. She is awesome. I got the book thru amazon.com and fell in love again. I found time in my bust schedule to read it through in only 2 sitting..If Hollywood got smart this would be an awesome movie....But right now it is my favorite book..
