Rating: Summary: History, not a story Review: So, I've read LOTR and Silmarillion and Hobbit and Silmarillion and Hobbit and LOTR again and... if I finish LOTR then I probably start reading Silmarillion. And there will be no end. I'm planning building a ringmail and buying a sword (twohanded probably). Also I've been wandering around in woods with my dog, hoping to meet Tom Bombadil. I'm not kidding. Really. I think, Tolkien is not an author of the Book, he just collected and translated it. I truly believe it's a real history. It really IS ! When I look at people, I see - some are halforcs, some seem to have a bit of elvish blood, some look like tall hobbits, some are trolls... When I see a smoking factory, I split and mumble... Saruman's dirt ! When the ents are going to flush it away ?... So. This book opened my eyes. Now I know my path in life. I will build a stone temple for Iluvatar. Modern civilisation is a piece of Sauron work. I will no longer be a member of it. I wanna live on Pelennor fields... When I act as a knight in this life, maybe I'll be a Rohan's horseman in next ... These ARE my real thoughts. P.S. sorry for bad English
Rating: Summary: The Lord of the Rings = Best book of the 20th Century! Review: An amazing piece of literature. Like nothing I have ever read. Tolkien is a true original, and everyone else is a horribly fake imitator. The Lord of the Rings trilogy(LOTR) was voted best book of the millennium by Great Britain and the best book of the 20th century WORLDWIDE! The story which J.R.R. Tolkien spins is unparalleled in English literature. A truly amazing set of books!
Rating: Summary: Tolkien-Master of Fantasy Review: Wonderful, one of the greastest books of all time. Tolkien creates a completely new world, full of interesting stories and events. Middle Earth has a deep history, making it interests. The Lord of the Rings, being one of the best fantasies ever written, it is interesting and full of action. It makes you use your imagination to picture Tolkien's world. It has something for everyone. Most definately one of the greatest books ever written.
Rating: Summary: I spend my time trying to forget the Lord of the Rings... Review: so that I can read them again! They are the greatest books Ive ever read. Not only is Tolkien's storytelling ability unrivalled (sorry James Joyce fans), but these books are by far the most well crafted books sense mythology times... if only casual readers realised just how much there is to Middle Earth that one doesnt know until reading the History of Middle Earth (not that I recommend it). These along with the Hobbit are childhood favorites that can also be read by adults with an even greater result. Tolkien is also by far the most influential writer of the 20th century, not Hemingway and CERTAINLY not Joyce. Every single book in the fantasy section at the library is a blatant ripoff of Tolkien. The best books ever created!
Rating: Summary: The best ever! Review: This is the best book I ever read. It had open a world of fantasy for me. It is writen very good and in a very nice language. And the story itself is so facinating that you can't imagine.
Rating: Summary: The Start of a World Review: Fantasy is such a sprawling genre, filled with lots of average, but entertaining books. Tolkien, ever since the publication of LOTR stands out. He didn't really write a story - he made a world. A fantastic world, rich in history, magic, myths, and life. The Lord of the Rings is a part of that world, and it FEELS like that, part of a greater work. Truly one of the best books ever written - I loved it.
Rating: Summary: Incredible Review: I first got The Lord of the Rings when I was in the forth grade. At the time they looked like huge books, so I didn't read them for a year or two, but when I did I couldn't put them down. I actually read the whole series in about a week and a half. I've read them every couple of months since, they're just that good. Get Them!
Rating: Summary: The Lord of Fantisy-J.R.R.Tolkien Review: I am 14 years old and what brought me to this book was The Hobbit. After reading The Hobbit, I found that there were sequels to this book. I was not sure, at the time, if i wanted to read them ('cause I HATE SEQUELS!), but i sure am glad I did, because these books are now NUMARO UNO ON MY LIST OF BEST BOOKS!
Rating: Summary: The Lord of the Rings Review: desearia poder adquirir la coleccion del señor de los anillos en español
Rating: Summary: A new classic Review: Looking over the many reviews of this epic you see a great many superlatives. While I wont go so far as to say "the greatest book ever written" (having not yet read every book.) LOTR remains one of my favorites. Few writers have ever been able to totaly immerse the reader as Tolkien has. Were it not for the length of the book, I would predict it to be taught in the English Literature classes of the future alongside Beowulf, Shakespear and Swift. While still in the realm of pop-literature, it also transcends it. The author has a natural ability to develop the fictional world to the point that it seems less like fiction and more like actual history. The characters are most highly developed as well. The dialog is oftentimes melodramatic but in the context of the story it might seem odd if it were not so. I hope all who read this book enjoy as much as I have.
