Review: ...The characters are not likeable, the plot is trite and boring, and Heinlein uses the same devices over and over that I could probably have written the last quarter of the book for him...If you are younger than 40, or have grown up since the 60's, you'll realize that Stranger in a Strange Land was the N'Sync of its time.

Summary: IS he a Stranger?
Review: This is the best I've ever have ever yet to read. it has romance, tragedy, suspence, and great Science Fiction. It Is Heinleins top work. But was Valentine Michael Smith really the Stranger? Or was he really the the one who understood the most was Valentine Michael Smith.

Think about this as you read it over and over again, if he was the stranger, then are we?...

Summary: We're all strangers in this strangest of lands
Review: Anything you want, this book has to offer. Comedy, tragedy, love story, fantasy, science fiction, pathos, philosophical treatise, social satire, religious tract: SIASL has it all. It is one of the few truly Shakespearian novels, covering the gamut of the human experience and using language with such perfect precision that it will bring a lump to your throat. The characters are beautifully realized, the plot novel (pun unintended) and surprising, and the "eucatastrophe" finale (as Tolkien termed the evil ending that turns out to be a good ending after all) still brings a smile to my face after many, many rereadings. I first read this in the sixth grade and my teacher became so intrigued by it that she borrowed it from me. Heinlein wasn't afraid to put his opinions into a book. Whether you agree or disagree with them, the book will give you food for thought as well as a lot of entertainment. What more do you want from a book, that it should get up and dance? SIASL might even do that for you!

Summary: One of the best science fiction books I have ever read
Review: I do not like books that do not teach anything. This thing is unique. One can find a lot of very deep philosophical ideas in it. It took mee almost no time to read it for the first time. And I wanted to read it more. I am sure, you will feel the same. Buy one for youself and a few more to give away as gifts.

Summary: Confidential to Valentine Smith fans
Review: If you already know and love this book, you must read the 1991 release of the uneditted version from the originally submitted manuscript. Valentine Smith's grokking of Earth, only hinted at in the old favorite because of the mores of its time, comes to life in the unexpurgated version now available.

Review: This book is a decent read, but it didn't begin to "open my eyes" to reflect on philosophy, religion, or culture. That anyone would find this quite simplistic book does any of these things amazes me and makes me wonder if anyone thinks about these things on their own anymore without requiring an author to stimulate them to do so.

If you are someone who already thinks deeply about issues such as philosophy, purpose, religion and society, don't expect this book to do anything more than entertain, or you'll surely be disappointed.

Summary: one of my favorites
Review: When first I read this book in the 6th grade, it gave me a headache. I wasn't able to finish it. I attempted it again in the 8th grade and found that I liked it. When I read it again in college I found that I had forgotten most of what I knew of it, including the ending. In all, I've read the book about 4 times, and each time I still learned something new.

I enjoyed this book almost purely because of Heinlein's prose and his way of saying things that makes you want to remember it and cherish it forever. I liked Mike, the puppyish Martian who is so naively innocent to the goings on of earthlings. He is, in my opinion, the epitomy of the 'perfect' human being, if there can be one. This book is probably just for hopeless idealists, and maybe people who enjoy a really well written book with a strange plot, and lots of unrelated ideas from the author that get sneaked in through the narration or character monologues. I personally really enjoy Heinlein's style of writing dialoge; it's like listening to a symphony--you're always wondering how he put the parts together to make them fit.

Summary: Stranger in a Strange land...
Review: When I first started this book, I was dragging my feet through it, not making much progress. It was primarily just character development and environmental setup. As the book reached about halfway through, I started to really enjoy it. I finished the last half of the book in a few sittings. This book raises some very interesting points on human thought and interaction as well as religion. I recommend it to anyone with an open mind but think that many would have problems if they are to bound by the way that they were taught to think. Definitely a book with psychedelic effects.

Summary: Absolutely Outstanding
Review: For me this one of the books on a list of books I'd want to take with me if stranded on a deserted island. I hate READING science fiction, but while this has to be classifed as science fiction, it's much, much more. It's an unexected study of human relations, religion, and alternative philosophy.

Summary: Blah blah blah science fiction
Review: 300 reviews that say the same thing. Great sci fi book, or bad sci fi book. I want to say something different. Feel free to not have a strong opinion about the book, but allow yourself to answer the questions presented. Not just about sex or religion, I learned a lot about myself during the time I read this book. Some people have been pushing the Celestine Prophecy at me, I can't read that book, the Dick and Jane grammar is annoying. I feel about "Stranger...." the way I hear I should feel about "Celestine..."
