Rating: Summary: Depressingly Hip - This reader unsure. Review: Fight Club is a novel I would find difficult to recommend to anyone I know. While it did affect me in some ways, I found that I could not identify with nor cheer on any of the characters within the book. They are weak people who find that pranks and beating up on others the only way to feel accepted and powerful. I must admit that a few scenes did make me think. Especially a small one involving a future vet (at least he better be). But I don't believe that these scenes were enough to overcome the feeling of apathy that the book conveyed.
Rating: Summary: Edgy, scarey, can't put it down or out of your mind, poetry. Review: Been in a reading slump, buying books, reading 30 pages, maybe a hundred, lose interest, start another and then another, another. Tried my usual tricks to find a book, the right book. Read the first sentence, the blurbs, pick a page in the middle, the author's bio. Keep missing. Reviews don't help. Then in Borders I see this cover, slick, lurid, hidden away on a shelf. I pick it up. Read the first sentence. Know I found it. Edgy, scarey, can't put it down or out of your mind poetry about all of us. Those at the beginning and those at the end. Chuck got it right for all of us. Finally. Running to get his second, "Survivor" butI knowit won't be enough and he can't write fast enough for me. Back to reader's block soon if he don't hurry up.
Rating: Summary: WHAT A RUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I can not describe in words what happens to my psyche while reading this book. The adrenaline begins to flow out of control and I have to put the book down for a bit. The more I read this book I begin to see myself as one of the characters. I can not stop talking about this, it is so bizarre but real. I can see this actually happening. I know this is going to grow biologically once it is read by a few people. I hope the director does not butcher this while creating the movie. The director needs Sean Penn because no one else can play "Tyler" also I am seeing Jennifer Leigh as the Marla. What a great book. I am going to re-read it.
Rating: Summary: Intense and very compelling Review: A gripping and disturbing portrayal about a group of young people, led by a cocky and charismatic 'visionary', hell-bent on reshaping society in their own image. I was drawn in right from the beginning and found myself empathizing/loathing some of the characters -- a strange combination. Overall, an excellent read -- even after you finish, it's difficult to put the story and characters out of your mind. I'm very curious to see what the director David Fincher does with the movie version -- set to be released later this year.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not that good. Review: Some of these reviews are a bit hyperbolic. Thoroughly recommended for a long haul flight, but hardly the best novel ever written.
Rating: Summary: PALAHNIUK IS GOD Review: THE GREATEST BOOK THAT I'VE EVER READ...THE FIRST BOOK THAT ACTUALLY MADE ME "GASP" IN PUBLIC.....THE VIOLENCE IS, AT TIMES, UNBEARABLE. THE IRONY COULD JUST MAKE YOU CRY. AND FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE, I FOUND MYSELF RELATING TO THE CHARACTERS' IDEAS AND VIEWS OF LIFE AND THE WORLD. MAKES YOU WANNA BREAK SOMETHING. OR, THEN AGAIN, MAKES YOU WANNA BREAK SOMEONE.
Rating: Summary: Thanks, and look out for more dark laughs. Review: Thanks for chancing it with my dark messed-up books. If there's any way to scrub the Kirkus review from this site, please do. It ruins the book. Yeah, Rosebud was a sled, but who needs to know that doing into the movie... This summer's Fight Club movie is a balls-out act of terrorism by director David Fincher. Edward Norton, Brad Pitt and Helena Bonham Carter are dream casting. Look for it in July. You will hyperventilate, the pace is THAT intense. Hey, also look for two more books this year: Survivor and Invisible Monsters. Each one is darker and darker and both make Fight Club look like Little Women. My agents says offended folks will be standing in line to take my head off with a gun. I'm pretty much okay with that. Okay, I'll shut up now. Chuck
Rating: Summary: Amazing! Review: If there were an option to give more than 5 stars, I would. This is the best book I have ever read. Dark, funny, thought-provoking... If you want to experince a truly great work, this is it.
Rating: Summary: The mother of all plot twists Review: Fight Club is likely the best novel you'll read all year. I would say more, but the first rule of fight club is you don't talk about fight club...
Rating: Summary: A Mind-Blowing-knock-you-out-of-your-seat experience. Review: Not recomended for the faint or those who don't like to be challenged or have their minds messed with. One of the greatest novels I have ever read and I highly recomend it!! Never have I "experienced" something quite like this.
