Rating: Summary: Palahniuk hits hard with this debut. Review: one of the best books i've read in a long time. Palahniuk seems unrestrained by conventional tools and rules of writing... apparently he wrote this book while in a writing group. it certainly shows. although there is a twist towards the end that threw me off, once i got used to it, the book was still enjoyable. in fact, re-reading this book is a pleasure because you see how well constructed the plot is. Palahniuk has created some truly realistic and memorable characters. i imagine Fincher, the director of the movie adaptation, had to change the plot quite a big, since a lot the book is seen from the nameless main character's viewpoint.
Rating: Summary: Amazing! Review: This one's a winner, through and through...I read it in one sitting with nary a notice of the outside world. Any attempt to explain the plot or the significance of the book would spoil it for newcomers...so I won't. Take my word for it, though: Chuck Palahniuk is the heir apparent to J. G. Ballard!
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment! Review: Perhaps I was expecting too much from this novel after reading all the glowing reviews. Hopefully the movie adaptation will live up to the hype. A few articles made much of the fact that Palahniuk wrote parts of the novel while underneath trucks he was working on. I can believe it. Hopefully, his other novel, Survivor , will be a better read.
Rating: Summary: not bad Review: Fight Club is not a bad book. Palahniuk has a smooth style. Fight Club is easy to read and short, so you don't have to waste too much time on it. David Fincher (Seven) is a stylish, gifted director and Norton (American History X) is a great actor. Fight Club will make a better movie. Watch the movie. Buy the book if you have to, but it would be smarter to go get it out from the library.
Rating: Summary: pugilism and purgatory Review: this book tore my mind a little. for all who enjoyed it please read anything by thom jones you can get your hands on. both of these authors land one in the solar plexus.
Rating: Summary: Intense Writing and Mesmerizing Review: This book is beyond anyhting I thought possible. Not only was I mesmerized by the writing, but the book actually got into my head and disturbed me. All I could think about was Fight Club for weeks after I read the book. It almost glorifies self-destruction, and it is the most creatively written novel I have ever read!It has a great story, and the twists are unexpected and unimaginable. Palahniuk is by far my new favorite author!!
Rating: Summary: Makes you wonder about your neighbors. Review: Loved the book. Could really see an underground developing around the plot line. Maybe this is what the Promise Keepers do to prove their devotion and make themselves alive.
Rating: Summary: Read this now! Review: Got it yesterday, read it twice already. First time in one sitting. I will never eat soup or merengue pie again
Rating: Summary: One of the best novels of all time Review: This novel is one of the best ever written. I can't think of a single novel that I have read that even comes close. This is essential reading for all of you would be anarchists. This book is chilling, suspensful, and intelligently written. I could not put it down. Chuck Palahniuk is an excellent author, in fact I liked this one so much I am going to buy his newest book Survivor. I wish I could give it more than five stars, but sadly enough that is all Amazon.com will let me give it.
Rating: Summary: sick brilliancy Review: I was out shopping after my friend's graduation from college. As a present, someone had given her a $200 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble. We sat down on the floor in the middle of the shelves, and began to pick up random books. There was only one copy of Fight Club on the shelf. I took it and read the first line. Caught completely off-gaurd, I read the first page and then the next. I had to have this book. I also was very broke... But a month later I returned and it was still there, one lone copy, as if it had been waiting for me. And it took me into a world of fictional characters and fictional diseases and mental sociopaths and I loved it. I loved the sheer anarchy of it... it broke the rules that I had ever known ficton to be. Good books open worlds for you, but the best books throw you into the world.
