Summary: strangely unique
Review: I haven't seen the movie...so I won't make comparisons. This book is in a word...UNIQUE. I can't really describe it otherwise. It has a great plot twist that makes you want to reread the entire text to see how it lead up to that point. Just as you are starting to wonder where this story is going, it hits you in the face (no pun intended) and does a 180. It was written well, and kept your interest peaked as well as having some strange comedic interludes. Not a book for everyone, especially if you are anti gun, fight, or bomb oriented....but then why would you consider something called The Fight Club if you were, right? OK...check it out for a fast and enjoyable read.

Summary: A manifesto for the present
Review: Are you gyys reviewing the movie or the book. I got this hot off the presses and have read it and studied it like the bible, because it is. In the book Tyler Durden is waiter/projectionist turned neo-tribal leader (he doesn't become a soap salesman till later in the book). Fightclub is born, the road to salvation is bloody and brusied. This men's group doesn't want to heal, they want to destroy. They dream of hunting wild game through the ruins of the financial district. The narrartor and Tyler are head on in a race to hit rock bottom.

Summary: There's something missing
Review: It seems to me that with this book Chuck Palahniuk was baking a cake and forget a few ingredients. That is not to say, however, that this novel doesn't taste good, but it's not as tasty as ones from the past. The plot and actions of the characters are interesting and fresh, and the social comentary is poignant. However, the character development is a little weak. The interaction between Tyler and his "buddy" doesn't really mean anything because a strong relationship never develops. The ending is also very abrupt. Once the announcement is made (like you didn't already know before) the novel just ends. A second half of the book would half strengthened it a lot; a second half with a battle for control of the body and a stronger relationship between Tyler and "John's utter despair." There are a lot of small things that could have been done to transform this book from a good one to a modern classic.

Summary: A bit to simple...
Review: Now, don't get me wrong. The idea of Fight Club is an interesting one. But the idea is the only thing which kept me from giving this novel a sone star rating. The writing just isn't very good. Everything is written in short, choppy sentences and it all seems so simple. Ack...the violence and sex in this book honestly didn't bother me very much, although I can see how it could bother OTHER people. All in all, violence is the tool of a simplistic author...it can be used with great skill and come off with great impact...or just come off...violent.

Summary: Fight Club is classic!
Review: Fight Club is more than a wild ride through Palahniuk's dark thriller. It is written in a uniquely sharp and effective style and presents classic themes about man's need for purpose and the fallacies of chasing materialism and of blind loyalty. Read it!

Summary: Generation X's first classic
Review: I bought this book around two weeks before the film made its debut and I have read it three times since. Palahniuk creates a perfect satire of the emptiness young men feel and the vain attempts to fill the void with anything from furniture and exotic mustard to brawling and attempting and overthrow of society. And the refreshing thing is that unlike American Psycho, this novel is more subdued and focused on the story as opposed to the gory details. Having worked in a soulless office setting for three years before finding a job I love, I empathized heavily with the narrator. A must read for anyone under 40 who feels the world passed them over. The last chapter alone for me was beautiful and brilliant. Those final three pages are worth the price of purchase

Summary: CURIOUS
Review: Curious how much the philosophy and form of Fight Club reminded me of Andrew MacDonald's "The Turner Diaries" (the racist, right wing, terrorist manifesto).

Kind of makes you think, doesn't it?

Summary: new therapy
Review: i saw the movie, then i read the book. i loved the film. i am at a complete loss to describe my feelings for this novel. i read this novel like my life(or quality of) depended on it. skeletal, harsh and beautiful are the only descriptive words. it is the "Catcher in the Rye" for a new and post-adolescent world. the narration, which is the bulk of the novel is the strong point. i felt as if i was, for a moment, the unnamed narrator. read this book, take this fable as you will, but most of all, love it and learn from it. angst and satire combine to make great yet extremely accessible and fast paced literature.

Summary: Ignore all the bad reviews by the pseudo-intellectuals
Review: Unless you yourself are a writer, do us all a favor and keep your pseudo-intellectual opinions to yourself. Why are you trying to take apart and analyze every detail and sentence of the book? If you think you can write a better book yourself...do it!
