Rating: Summary: Book Vs. Movie. Book comes out on top. Review: I remember the first time I saw the movie "Fight Club." It changed the way I not only viewed movies, but also the way I viewed the world. As soon as I was done watching it I watched it again, because of the surprise obviously, and because I thought it was one of the smartest and darkest movies I had ever seen. I needed to buy the book, because everytime I've ever read a book it was better than the movie. When I got the book I was very surprised to see Edward and Brad's pictures on the cover, yeah, the movie was based on the book, but in no way can you watch the movie and follow along in the book. I'm happy to say, the book was even darker than the movie, which surprised me because David Fincher makes some of the darkest movies around. The main character in the book is much more messed up in the head than Edward played him. The style of writting here is different than any I've ever seen. It took me three nights to read Fight Club, and as soon as I finished it I bought another one of Chuck's novels.Great book!

Rating: Summary: Used to like it Review: I used to be quite a fan of Fight Club. As a matter of fact, I once gave it 5 stars and the top spot on my list of favorite books. However, I can not bring myself to give it such a glowing review anymore. The book just seems pointless.
Rating: Summary: A bible in 208 pages Review: This is the BEST book I have ever read, and, believe me, I have read quite a few, from "The Divine Comedy" by Dante to "The Brother's Karamazov" by Dostoevsky. While the writing may not be the quality found in either of those two books, the paradigm altering concept(s) behind this book are of an unmatched quality. Rarely does excellent writing come together with vivid imagery and dark, twisted, enlightenment -- but in Fight Club, everything comes to a head.
Rating: Summary: Palahniuk's fast paced masterpiece. Review: Palahniuk's now legendary novel, "Fight Club", remains one of the more biting criticisms of our times against commercialism and the susceptibility of today's society. A fast-paced and intriguing novel, Palahniuk loses you in the reckless world of Tyler Durden and his actions, an infatuation with someone one could never be. Although the book itself is some 200 pages, it really reads like it's 150 or so. The chapters are short, brief snippets of the narrator's view into society. Not only does Palahniuk keep you engaged through this but also gives you a near stream-of-conciousness style of writing, engaging in tangents about Tyler Durden and his hatred of Marla. While most of the exposure of the book is directly corrolated with the immense success of the movie, the novel, as a stand alone work, is immensely enjoyable. Palahniuks constant prodding at societal mediums (movies, the emergency cards in air planes) and almost humorous cynicism towards the brainwashing of society ("His name is Robert Paulson. His name is Robert Paulson") makes this novel one of the best of the past decade, a worthy addition to any library.
Rating: Summary: Fight Club Review: Okay, who else wants to start their a Fight Club? Oh, whoops, don't talk about Fight Club...
Rating: Summary: I am Joe's blood-boiling book review Review: Fight club is a gritty, in-your-face satire of the modern television-raised generation's quest for material goods. If you've seen the movie first it will most-certainly clear up many an ambiguous detail you might have left you scratching your movie-going head at after seeing it. Whether you love this book or it enrages you to the point of taking your personal pet, placing it in the microwave and turning the power to full for 20 minutes, it is extremely well-written and funny. If you've ever wanted to know how to make napalm, break cylinder locks, create your own soap, or make cool scars in your hand, blow somebody to smitherines when they turn on their computer, this book is for you. Or if you're just looking for good reading it's also for you. It is not for you, however if you are looking for something to inspire you to buy a table in the shape of a yin and yan that can connect together.
Rating: Summary: Razor Sharp Fiction Review: His name is Robert Paulson. Fight Club is an excellent film by director David Fincher because it breaks the rules by not fitting the mold of your average, boring "Blockbuster". Thank goodness for that! Many are unaware that Fight Club was a novel by Chuck Palahniuk years before the film, and fans of the film should DEFINITELY check out the book. The film does a great job at keeping the same fast pace and content of the novel, but the novel has a few extras that make it worth reading especially for those looking for a quick, entertaining read. Fans of the movie will really enjoy the extra stories about Tyler Durden that weren't covered in the film. Palahniuk writes in a way that makes it hard to stop at the end of a chapter, the reader is captivated to keep going and before you know it, you've finished the book. The basic storyline involves a man with no name who talks in first person about his mundane life. He's an insomniac who eventually finds a way to feel complete AND get some sleep at night. More or less he starts a Fight Club with new friend Tyler Durden and many unique things happen for him at this point in his life. This may not sound EXTREMELY appealing but I could divulge much more information to make it sound crazy and great, however, I wouldn't want to spoil anything. Upon completion of the novel, many fans will realize how well it was adapted to film which also makes the film that much more of a gem. For those who have neither seen the film nor read the book my advice would be to read first and then watch. You will NOT be disappointed. If the body goes limp, the fight is over.
Rating: Summary: Average adaptation of an excellent movie. Review: OK, so this is obviously not true, as the movie was based upon Mr. Palahniuk unusual book. This book is definitely interesting, and was able to maintain my interest as I read through the plot twists of Project Mayhem. However, as I saw the movie first, this book seems a pale imitation of an excellent movie. I am amazed at the job done by the screenwriter (whoever that may be, it might be Mr. Palahniuk himself, I don't know), as the movie does an excellent job of portraying the double personality of the main character. The book does an average job, but I was constantly referring to my recollection of the movie to realize what was actaully happening in the book. I read in another review (a five-star review) that if the book were half as good as the movie, then he/she would not be disappointed. Well, if the movie was an A+ (100%), then half as good would be an F (50%). While I would go that far, I would definitely say that this book did not live up to my expectations (C-). Whereas before I was highly awaiting the next movie adaption of a Mr. Palahniuk work, I am no longer so excited. Perhaps I will see if the same director/screen write team up for the next adaptation, and that may rekindle my interest.
Rating: Summary: Who really is Tyler Durden? Review: This book caught me by surprise. The movie set a vivid tone for the audiences but after reading the book, it's like being the narrator in the book. I loved the movie but I wish I would have read the book first. No important details were left out by Palahnuik in the book. The character, Tyler Durden, a savior or a murderer? You, yourself have to decide after reading the book. Palahnuik threw an image about how society and generations really are to my face and beliefs. So...take my word for it, read the book, you won't regret it.
