Rating: Summary: This is humor intelligently written. Review: I love this book! Douglas Adams is great. He can find a way of describing something that is so far-fetched, you can't help but laugh. And in my stressful life, I need humor to keep me sane.
Rating: Summary: Highly Convenient and Worth The Money Review: I don't see any reason not to recommend this book. The Hithhiker's series is one of the best, most entertaining, and certainly funniest serieses out there. Whether you're into comedy, science fiction, or just plain wackiness in your reading this book is a must. All five books in the series are here in one volume, as is the fairly inconsequential but completist short story Young Zaphod Plays It Safe, and an amusing introduction from Adams. This is a very convenient volume because it has all of these things between the same two covers, and it is bargain-priced, certainly far cheaper than buying all the books separately, plus you get the bonus short story, the new intro, etc. Highly, highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: What's so funny? Review: The first book in this series is quite good and definitely should be read. I had to force myself to finish the quite lame second book. The third book was just as good as the first. By the fourth book, things get VERY boring, VERY quickly. In fact, I could only read a few chapters of it before I couldn't stand it any longer and stopped reading. "Oh, you just have no sense of humor!" you might say. No. I've read, seen, heard, and written things funnier and more entertaining than this. "Oh, you just don't understand British comedy!" you might now say. No. I love Red Dwarf (My favorite TV show) and Monty Python and the Holy Grail (My favorite movie). "Oh, you just don't appreciate wacky random humor!" you might say. No. I love Sam & Max, the funniest book I've ever read and funniest game I've ever played. "Then", you might ask, "why don't you like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?" The answer is: I don't know. I just don't think it's funny. And I think I'm alone.
Rating: Summary: This is the single funniest book I have ever read. Review: Adams' subtle, and occasionally not-so-subtle, humor and wit provide a new perspective on the old genre of science fiction. I believe that _The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy_ sparked the creation of a new sub-genre of books, "science fiction comedy". And, as the originals usually are, this is the best that's out there. In this book, Adams shows that he is one of the greatest authors of all time. If you haven't read this book already, GET IT. You won't regret it.42
Rating: Summary: Hitchhiker's Guide, The Ultimate Book Review: I just recently found out that there are a few people left in the world that have not read The Hitchhiker's Guide . Over the years I have bought dozens of copies, most of them being taken by friends, never to be seen again. I always have a copy with me just incase I come across a thief in need. My review; buy it, steal it, just make sure you have a copy. Drop by and give me a sad story, I might give you mine. Zaphod 12StringDreams.com
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Book Ever Published Review: I hate sci-fi with a passion, but this collection of books had me laughing out loud. Douglas Adams has a Monty Python like sense of humor, and a droll wit that may go over some heads, but if you are into the "British Humor" you must buy this. You won't regret it.So long, and thanks for all the fish.
Rating: Summary: Some of the best humor in recent memory Review: Douglas Adams claims that the idea for this series came to him while lying in a field looking up at the sky. I believe he was potted at the time as well. No matter. If it takes a few pints to reach inspiration this brilliant, more power to him. The HHGTTG series, most of which is contained here, is simply incredible. It is funny because Arthur is so normal, while everyone else seems so incredible strange. Still, I may know a few Ford Prefects and Zaphods in disguise. The BBC made a television series of a part of the series some years ago. While funny, it fails to live entirely up to the magnificent books. One can only hope that Hollywood will leave the story alone enough in the rumored movie production of the books. I can only imagine the horror of Zaphod with a Brooklyn accent.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST Review: If you do not care about reading a book for stimulating your mind, and/or being engrossed in complex human relationships, read this, and you'll laugh extremely hard; you'll laugh, on average, 5 times a chapter, of which there are usually 20-30 in each book. The sheer insanity and irreverence the Adams uses is built into the book ingeniously. All Books in the collection I reccomend, but "So Long and Thanks for all the Fish" was a bit off, not containing the feel of the previous books very much, though it is a worthwhile read. If you are amused by the phrase "...almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea." you'll probably like these stories.
Rating: Summary: The most confusing, well written book ever. Review: This book is wonderful. The whole series is GREAT. You'll read it once, and then read it again to understand it better. Douglas Adams has such an imagination, from an inside out house, to the answer to life, the universe, and everything. You'll laugh out loud reading this book, and want to recomend it to everyone you know. Trust me, I've done it, and they all loved it too! READ THIS BOOK! You can have such deep discussions about humanity, space and life in general. Its wonderful, do yourself a favor and read it.
Rating: Summary: Life, the Universe, and Everything! Review: This book should be on the bookshelf of any serious reader. It is witty, funny, and very exciting. Only here can you meet a depressed robot, named Marvin, and learn of the pending destruction of the Earth. Buy It!
