Rating: Summary: A masterpiece of Sci-fi Review: I haven't read a book funnier than the Hitchhiker's guide. The character's are engaging, and the adventures, though outragous, are very well written. The book can be confusing, but that is one of the things that makes it so funny. In the intro, Douglas Adams explains that the name came to him as he lay drunk in a field in Switzerland, which should give some insight on the contents of the book. Adams has a warped sense of humor and the book is even funnier if you do too.
Rating: Summary: I have come to tell you how not great this book isn't. Review: Did anyone understand that? Why in the zarking fardwark not? I am the great Zarquon. I say "Buy this book and win awards." The "trilogy" is quite simply the most masterful prose I have ever read. I mean, that's nothing to take lightly... I've seen everything. From the mattresses of Squornshellus Zeta to Eccentrica Gallumbits (the triple-breasted whore of Eroticon Six... who by the way is everything you've always wanted her to be!) So, grab your waiters pad and figure out the probability statistics of buying this book, then swiftly chuck them out the window, finally click the mouse on the "Buy this Book" button... This shall be done in accordance with prophecy... The Great Zarquon has spoken.
Rating: Summary: Utterly Outstanding Review: These are some of the greatest stories that I have ever read. I am still in High School, but Douglas Adams is by far my favorite writer. The zany antics of Ford Prefect and Zaphod Beeblebrox kept me laughing out loud constantly. In most cases, I could not put the book down. I also recommend Adams's other titles, "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" and "The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul." These are of a somewhat less Science Fiction theme, but are just as hilarious.
Rating: Summary: "Sorry for the inconvenience" Review: Buy this book and hear a thousand people say 'whop.' Douglas Adams' true whit comes to life in this book. We follow the trail of a group of intergalactic idoits as they stumble across and fall flat on their faces of the greatest mystery of the universe, 42. Don't delay, RUN, don't walk your mouse over and buy this book today! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
Rating: Summary: Humor for most anybody in the Universe Review: I had a friend who had this book. He enjoyed it so much that he refused to even lend it to me, so I could glance through a few chapters even though we often trade books. So I eventually decided to buy my own copy of the book. I was skeptical because my friends sense of humor differed from my own. However, it was a wholly worthwhile purchase. I had to stop several times just to get all the laughing out, and disturbed my neighbors late at night with my giggling. Definitely a find. You have to experience this book, if only for the sheer silliness of it as it spits into Logic's eye and says, "HA!"
Rating: Summary: "a wholly remarkable book" Review: What they all said (all the reviews before this one). It's all you can say. If you have not yet read the hitchhiker's guide, the galaxy and bureaucratic organizations may seem like vast mysteries to you. The question to the ultimate answer still evades you, and you don't even know why. This is probably the most important book in my library. I read the first chapter of the first book to my daughter, and then I had to stop so that she could get up off the floor and stop laughing long enough to breathe again. And it continues in that manner for hundreds of pages. Don't waste any more time before reading this book. And, by the way, don't panic.
Rating: Summary: If you read only one book this century... Review: ...let it be this. Unfortunately for those of you who have not read this truly awesome book, you don't understand what you are missing out on. Please, to put your mind at ease, read "Hitch-hikers Guide" because it really is an epic, of sorts, and something to take your mind of some of the other dribble no doubt you have been reading.
Rating: Summary: OUTSTANDING! Review: My daughter who is 13 read these book, told me they were wonderful and suggested I read them. They are the most hilarious series ever written!
Rating: Summary: The funniest book I've ever read and ever expect to read. Review: You have probably heard of this book but maybe not read it. There's nothing I can say except read it posthaste! It's a sardonic, biting parody of, well, damn near everything; science fiction cliches, politics, society in general. Adams writes the most clever descriptions I've ever read: "The sky was one the Four Horsemen of the Apolcalypse would not be embarrased riding out of" His zany, random plot twists are remeniscent of _Candide_ by Voltaire. In fact the nature of the book is much like that of _Candide_, except much, much longer and much much funnier! Read now!
