Summary: A world more vivid than reality
Review: Tolkien's world had more depth than anything else I've read. This is a classic masterpiece and everyone should read it. However, be warned: If you read this just so you can say that you've read it, you'll never finish. Someone made a comment that Tolkien describes every blade of grass. Nothing in Tolkien's world is mundane. There is no such thing as a "horn" or a "sword." Every item in the world has a name and a history. Everything has reason and meaning. His world is in many aspects more detailed and rich than our own. The Lord of The Rings is a massive work, yet almost everyone I know who has read it has done so more than once. I've read it three times, and as soon as I finish The Silmarillion and can find the time, will read it again. This is without doubt the greatest fantasy ever written, and none of the countless clones which followed do it justice. However, experienced fantasy readers might realize that elements of Tolkien's works have been cloned so frequently that his own work now seems unoriginal. If you're an experienced fanstasy reader you owe it to yourself to see the monster which started it all, even if you have to remind yourself that this is, in fact, the original. Those who have never touched the genre but love reading will fall in love. Those who have grown up watching car chases and duels on TV might feel out of their element. But regardeless of who you are, give this book a chance, because it is undoubtedly the greatest of it's kind.

Summary: The best fiction book I have ever read. Period.
Review: This book will enthrall both the young and the old to hights they have never imagined. Tolkien creates and sustains an entire secondary world through 3 very large volumes. This will make you dream of such a world for months on end. Read it now or you may regret it later.

Summary: read THE best books ever written!!
Review: First I wanna say that theese books are'nt for people who have important works, they will make you call in sick and you will probably get fired. This set of books will probably not be bought by people who have'nt read Tolkien books before. It's great to have the books together, you just can't stop reading them. The caracthers seems too be real after a while, their adventures just sweeps you away.I belive that His point is important for humanity, if you think the book actually tells you what to do and not to do! well. my advice: READ THE BOOKS! NOW!

Summary: Absolutely The Best. No, Even Better.
Review: Gosh. That is the best book not only of all I've read, but of all you'll ever be able to read, for there is nothing better. It's impossible to explain: elves, ents, battles, journeys, ships, eagles, wizards, orcs, towers, flames, light, dark, temptation, wisdom, mercy, courage - everything is there. Perhaps Tolkien could make the book even better. But if so, I can't see how. One feature that is oftentimes overlooked is the novel's poems and songs. They are simply so beautiful you feel pain in your heart. "The Lord of the Rings" has no drawbacks. What? Too long? Good things don't get too long. Characters are too perfect? None of them, even Aragorn; they are NEARLY perfect, but they had to be such. Besides, there is Gimli, and old Gaffer, and others, they all are incredible. What else? Not enough action? Read about the The Battle of the Pelennor Fields; besides, I hate to say this, but only fools love so-called "action". Read something of Conan endless series, that's your stuff.

There are two other books (not by Tolkien), which stand close to the great Middle Earth series. These are the Earthsea series by Ursula Le Guin and "The Cronicles of Narnia" by C. S. Lewis. They sometimes share the similar, but still not the same spirit.

What else can I say? When I finished reading the last chapter, I, as many others, cried. I'm not ashamed. Read the trilogy and you'll understand why.

Summary: Never surpassed, Never equaled
Review: After all the thousands of books I've read, both fiction and non-fiction, I still look upon "The Lord of the Rings" as the finest. It's ranks as one of the cornerstones of 20th Century literature and its impact on the last 30 years of western culture cannot be underestimated. The Mythology that Professor Tolkien created has resonated ever since with the generations of Boomers and Gen X's. After browsing through some of the reader's reviews, I have a feeling that the next generation is getting around to discovering Tolkien's works also. As for me, I even booked my last vacation through an agency called "Hobbit Travel".

Summary: The Greatest Book of the 20th Century?
Review: The Lord of the Rings, with The Hobbit as recommended introductory reading, must surely rank as the book of the century. It is timeless in conception and with the full range of human emotions generated in a text that captivates from beginning to end. What other book has produced as many 5 star reviews? Ideal for all ages and a book that will be re-read for many years. A masterful piece of true fiction and my only surprise is that it did not result in a Nobel Prize.

Summary: Probably the best fantasy books written.
Review: I have read these books as a child, an adolescent and an adult and I believe that they are probably the best fantasy books written. As a child I found the LOTR a bit heavy some times and as an adult I find The Hobbit a bit childish, but that is ok. I have read a lot of fantasy (and other literature) and I assume that it is the details and consistency that make Tolkien's world 'real' that makes the reader love his books. Of course it might be for the same reason that those with, let say, less patience, prefer something that is not so complex and with more straight forward action.

Summary: LIFE WOULDNT BE LIKE IT IS WITHOUT TOLKIEN
Review: If any of you out there has not read Tolkien, you have no clue on what you are missing out. Tolkien isn't just any author, he is a creator of such a world that opens up a whole new insight to the reader. As for myself, I can't imagine myself without having read Tolkien. Both the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings gave me a whole new imagination, a feeling that I can't describe in words. One of the best things about the books he wrote are the fact that they arent written for any particular age group. The Hobbit, written in the manner of a children's book, holds many symbols that can be appreciated by many adult readers. I dont wanna spoil the book by giving a description. All i ask is whatever you do, dont miss out on this author, you have no clue what reading his books can do to you. Trust me, you certainly wont regret it.

Summary: I recommend that you read these books at least seven times.
Review: The first time you read the books, you'll be caught up in the sheer adventure -- the magic, the battles, the wizards, and the sorcerers. The second time you may notice how real the landscape seems -- isn't this Earth as it once was, or should have been? The third time you'll find the history, at least 5000 years documented with fine detail. The fourth time you'll notice how much you care for the characters, and perhaps notice that even heroes can lose. The fifth time you'll examine the language -- why do these Elvish names seem so right? The sixth time it may all make sense to you -- isn't this the greatest story ever told? Finally, thinking that you have read Lord of the Rings for the last time, you turn to the Silmarillion and other stories of Middle-Earth. Then you try LotR for one last time. Then prepare yourself for that seventh reading, because now you are ready to truly understand what this genius has written -- and you will be moved in a way that no book will able to move you again.
