Rating: Summary: Telling why I "love" this set of books. Review: This set takes you to the land of Middle-earth ,so good you'd think you were there with elves, orcs, dravers, hobbits, ents, men, Smaug, monsters, and wizards. The quest of hobbits and a magic ring that can change everything forever.
Rating: Summary: Mastery of Writing Tolkien Rules Over Fantasy Review: I believe this is the best set of books ever written next to the bible that is. Tolkien was an astounding writer. He was great at drawing you into his world and not letting you go. I say We defy the rules and give him 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars
Rating: Summary: The definitive fantasy classic for the 20th century Review: There is more to this world than can be summed up here. It is another universe, complete and intricate, with characters more real than most in "realistic" fiction.
Rating: Summary: Tolkien is our prophet... Review: Tolkien is a easily the best writer *ever* to grace this planet! Everything is so detailed! It's incredible, simply incredible! The hobbit was my first book outside of those little suess books, and I loved it. Every page! Every single page! So, read this book, from our Prophet, J.R.R. Tolkien, and fall into a world rich with detailed fantasy and a story line to end all storylines!
Rating: Summary: MAGNIFICENT , it takes your breath away!!! Review: I am happy to be in the group of people on this earth who have read the Lord of the Rings.
Rating: Summary: 5th grade reader Review: I am in fifth grade and have read THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RINGS. I told my sister about Pippen and now she won't lay off. The book is the best I've read (not counting hard words). I really don't have anything else to say except it was a great book.
Rating: Summary: These books are the best I have ever read. Review: I began with the Hobbit while still in elementary school. I then continued with the next three completing all in less than three months. These books are fantastic. They spark the imagination and adventure in all who read them. My second grade son is now enjoying the Hobbit. My wife and I began reading a little every night to him. He decided to read chapter three to us and now he has gone ahead without us. I recommend these books for good reading material to all ages.
Rating: Summary: I didn't want it to finish Review: Right from the first humble phrases to the stunning climix, this collection has everything that any reader could ever want from a written work. The wealth of characters, their vivid descriptions and incredible scenarios is just one area in which this compiliation is superior to all others. There is not a single dull moment and I was constantly pondering future events. Without a doubt, there is nothing that hails near to "The Lord of the Rings".
Rating: Summary: A SIX STAR work of Beautifully written fantasy fiction !!! Review: A classic piece of literature from a Professor of English Literature who initially wrote the Hobbit out of love for his family. The Lord of The Ring's Trilogy followed. I read the first hundred reviews out of curiosity and chuckled at the illiterate Bubbas and Geeks who were weaned on comic books and TV who could not understand what all the fuss was about. But then again, a person with a sixth grade reading level shouldn't read literature. It will undoubtedly make their small brains hurt. The Hobbits are a reflection of folklore and mythology as presented by Tolkin. The Ring symbolizes a quest of good over evil and the Frodo symbolizes the common man's struggle with good and evil. I started reading the Hobbit to my oldest daughter when she was only 12 and then to my other children. We delighted together each night in the story as it is beautifully told and woven with golden threads of magical writings by the greatest fantasy writer that has ever existed! Buy this book for a loved one and read it to your children. THEY WILL NEVER FORGET the sharing that comes from this. Many writers get caught up in the story and the characters languish. Jost bought another set of this trilogy along with the Hobbit for my grandkids along with Steiger's Alien Rapture. Steiger who also taught English Literature once wrote how Tolkin had inspired him to write and to examine existing mythology and tradition, which reflects in his new novel. I recommend this work over any and all amazon.com fiction or fantasy works.
Rating: Summary: Life-altering Magic! Review: I picked up LofR when i was 12- i could not put it down, even to eat, for the next 3 days. It transported me to a world of poetic beauty and evil, one so real that the magic of it lingers on still. Actually, i've never really come back from the delicious company of Tolkien's hobbits and elves and rangers. Kudos to a literary genius, and a rare creative inspiration! Everyone should read it at least once in their lives. You'll never look back - i guarantee it.
