Rating: Summary: I wish I were a Hobbit Review: Whether you're tripping on acid on Haight-Ashbury or a student at Oxford, the works of J.R.R. Tolkien have a marvelous appeal. Those of us who have read them and love them wish we hadn't, so we could read them for the first time. What's not to love about them? They're beautiful blend of paganism and Christianity, their pathos, their humor make them, if not the best books of all time, then at least the most delightful.
Rating: Summary: Great Trilogy Review: Folks, I'm not typically a genre fan--be it Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, etc. I'm more interested in literary fiction, and since most of the stuff written in the above genres is simply laughable (Robert Jordan, that Lord Foul Bane junk (horrible), Terry Brooks, etc.) I often do not delve into the world of pop fantasy fiction. But Tolkien is a rare find, kids. He's written a fantasy series that holds up as literarue. Tolkien, an Anglo-Saxon specialist, has given us a modern-day Beowulf, Sir Gawain, and Fairy Queen all rolled up in one. Before Professor Tolkien, one had to go back to those old texts to read fantasy. Thank God, Tolkien decided to give a try at writing one himself.
Rating: Summary: so good so good Review: THIS IS SUCH A GOOD BOOKS. TOLKIEN IS MY SECOND FAVORITE AUTHOR. PEOPLE WHO SAY IT'S NO GOOD, WELL THEY HAVE A PROBLEM.
Rating: Summary: The gratest fantasy book of all times. Review: A world where there is no limit to fascination, with heroes who'd rather be at home than making history. A place of wonder, of deep human feelings. A place full of great battles and magic, where the characters have their own motivations and have to face their worst inner fears. Where the temptation of power is enormous, and the line between good and evil is sometimes too thin to see. This is a story that can be read as many times as you wish: you'll never get tired of it. This is more than a classic, this is the world where I would choose to live.
Rating: Summary: Undoubtedly the best book that I have ever read!!! Review: There are 2 kinds of people in the world, those who have read Lord of the rings and those who WILL read it. Undoubtedly, the best author that I have read. I recommend that each and every person who is imaginative, or can appreciate fiction MUST read this book. There never will be anything better in life...
Rating: Summary: =) Review: What can I say? These books are the BEST I have ever read in my life. One after the other, I read all four. I finished The Return of the King in two days! In my entire life of 13 years, never have I read such wonderful books. Everyone should read them, fantasy lovers or not!
Rating: Summary: An excellent saga by an even more excellent man!!!!! Review: Tolkien is a brilliant man and a marvelous writer. I have read The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and The Silmarillion. They are all extrordinary books and I recomend them to anyone with a love for fantasy, fine literature, or just simply reading. I have thoroughly enjoyed Tolkien's lovely world and hope that one day my children will have the chance to do the same.
Rating: Summary: This book is great! Review: I really liked the Lord of the Rings. It has a very interesting plot and the characters are well developed. It really draws you in and makes you feel as if you were really part of it. I especially like all of the dwarves.
Rating: Summary: The BEST "book" I've ever read. Review: * STARS!!! I finished the Lord of the rings a month ago and I loved it!! I have never read such great works! Tolkien is the almighty fantasy master!!! I am reading everything Tolkien now!!!!! READ THIS NOW!!!!!! IF ANYBODY SAYS THAT THERE ARE BETTER AUTHORS THEY ARE LYING!!!!
Rating: Summary: The Best Review: I was first read The Hobbit six years ago at age 10 by my fifth grade teacher and at age 12 I had finished The Lord of the Rings and was ready to start it all over again. I have read the trilogy numerous times since then and each time is as fulfilling as the last. The story is just so that a younger reader can understand it and an older reader can dive into its intricities and uncover new meanings. Tolkien created a world almost as complex in its history and tradition as our own, complete with original languages and letters or runes. The characters' humanity is apparent despite their strange forms and ways. I have read other fantasy novels that have been compared to Tolkien, and while I enjoy the other novels, I am yet to read something that can came close to the mastery of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
