Rating: Summary: READ THIS!!! Review: In addition to this being such a great series, I just wanted it to be known that J.R.R. Tolkien wrote the first book, The Hobbit, on the front lines in World War II. He wrote each chapter and sent them home to his children for them to read. Little did he actually know that they saved all the chapters of the Hobbit and compiled them into one book. When Tolkien saw his published story, he decided to continue the saga with The Lord of the Rings.
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Fantasy Epics Ever Review: This series of books is by far one of the best all-time fantasy sagas. The incredible detail and plot of this story will astonish and amaze you. Even is you don't like fantasy novels, this will get you hooked. In these four books, JRR Tolkien creates a mystical world full of elves, drawfs, ogres, orcs, and of course, the hobbits. Once you read this epic, you will feel as if you're life has been completed.
Rating: Summary: NO WORD IS WORTHY ENOUGH TO DESCRIBE THESE BOOKS Review: I LOVE THESE BOOKS!!! I LOVE THESE BOOKS!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: J.R.R. Tolkien Master of Imagination and Persona Review: "Three Rings for Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the land of Morder Where the Shadows lie. One Ring to rule them all, One ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them In the Land of Morder where the Shadows lie" So begins The Lord of the Rings J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece epic of the great War of the Ring that ended the Third age of Middle Earth. Tolkien wrote the epic with such great detail and imagination that it is unparalleled in the world of fantasy and perhaps even all of fiction. Tolkien wrote the epic of The Lord of the Rings with such detail and passion that the story and the characters in it overpower the reader. As the reader you become a part of the adventure, which is a part of fiction itself, to feel the power of the story. Is that not the purpose of fiction for the story to become more real to the reader than if it had actually happened? Tolkien achieves this goal completely. The plot of The Lord of the Rings is the battle between Good and Evil, the most basic and powerful of plots. The biggest criticism of Tolkien's work is one that he made of himself. That The Lord of the Rings was not long enough.
Rating: Summary: Six stars Review: The only reason you maybe shouldn't read Tolkien is that any other books by any other authors will never again be good enough. But it's worth it. The road on which you step by opening The Hobbit is a magical and breathtaking road which will lead you into a unforgetable, strange and beautiful new world, changing your life forever. I'd give it six stars if I could. I simply feel sorry for people who don't like Tolkien (if such people exist).
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: I have only read the hobbit, but I am just starting the trilogy. When I read the Hobbit I really just wanted to read it all over again. Tolkien just paints pictures of what he wants you to see in your mind. This is a good book for anyone.
Rating: Summary: I was born Gandalf! Review: My dad thought enough of me to make my true name "Gandalf." I would write a review of this masterpiece, but if there are words worthy of describing The Lord of the Rings, only J.R.R. Tolkien, himself, could have written them. I truly would not be who I am without his gift to this world.
Rating: Summary: I hate fantasy, but LOVE these books Review: I really dislike fantasy books, but after hearing SO MUCH about this I decided to sit down at my local bookstore and force myself through 50 pages, just to see what the fuss was about. 175 pages later, I decided this was VERY cool and bought the first two books. Then after reading both books in ONE sitting, I hauled back into my store, and traded up for the large-bound editions of all three books. Two months later I purchased the hardbound versions from Amazon.com. Don't get my wrong: I still hate fantasy, but WOW are these good!
Rating: Summary: the best book ever Review: i do not read a lot just now and then but Tolkien's book i could read many times and everytime i would find something different. He is the best in the business. All that i want to say is that anyone who never read his books does not know what the good reading is all about.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Delightful Review: His world will seem so entchenting and so real
