Rating: Summary: The Pimpest Review: I was grea
Rating: Summary: Watered down, overrated, no death, a lot of food. Review: I commend Tolkien on starting the way for modern fantasy and I admit I sort of enjoyed these books. But I must say that they are FULL of boring, dragging parts. It is mostly detailed descriptions of Bilbo and Frodo eating a lot or enjoying grass and flowers or whining about snot-rags. If you wan't to read REAL GOOD fantasy try the following: Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman--Dragonlance. Robert Jordan--Wheel of Time. Terry Goodkind--Sword of Truth.
Rating: Summary: A book to live in Review: Few books cover the empty spaces better than J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings." Drawing richly from ancient Norse, Anglo-Saxon and British literature and folk idioms, Tolkien does nothing less than wage a full-scale war of good and evil, pitting demonic orcs and the creatures of darkness against the mythical high peoples of Middle Earth. In "The Lord of the Rings" readers will find magic, which is as much a part of Tolkien's world as the wonders of nature in ours. This is a book, which takes you on a journey there and back again. And when at last the journey's over, the reader is made to feel that somehow, he or she has been a part of it all. Many readers will return to Middle Earth over and over again, just to breathe in that magical air. And who can blame them? This is a book one can really live in and not regret a single minute.
Rating: Summary: the best series of books i,ve ever read Review: the hobbit and the lord of the rings is overall the best series i,ve ever read and probably ever will. It takes you into a world like no other once you start one you cant put it down. I just wish Mr.tolkien could have written more about middle earth before he died.
Rating: Summary: The best!! Review: The Lord of the Rings is without a doubt the best trilogy I've ever read in my life. I have read many many books, and none even come close to J.R.R. Tolkien's books!! I have read it a total of 12 times now within the past two years. I was introduced to the Lord of the Rings when I was 13 and I haven't been able to leave it since then. The Lord of the Rings drew me in and let me live in Middle Earth with Frodo and Merry and Bilbo and the rest. I got to meet Elves, and battle orcs, and look upon the Nazgul. Middle Earth came to life around me! The Lord of the Rings has also shaped my own writing style. After reading it, I got inspired to write a book of my own, and it has helped me in many ways. For anyone who hasn't read this amazing trilogy before, I strongly recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy. It's simply the best! :)
Rating: Summary: The Best Fantasy Series Ever Written Review: I read the Hobbit when I was in kindergarten. In first grade, I tackled the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. A few years later, I read the Silmarillion. In all the years since, I have never read books that evoke such a beautiful and real world. Reading Tolkien books is like taking a journey into Middle Earth: Not only do you read about Tolkien's world, you experience it. The Hobbit is a quiet, entertaining story. Kids and adults alike will enjoy it. We all can identify with Bilbo, who is dragged into 'an adventure', in which he ultimately helps a band of dwarves regain their lost homeland. However, even this early, there are hints of the events to come later. The Lord of the Rings books are deeper, delving more into the history of Middle Earth and into the world beyond the Shire and the Lonely Mountain. The epic tale of Frodo's quest to destroy Sauron's ring has inspired many other great authors. The best review a new fantasy book can hope for is a review that compares the book to Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Finally, the Silmarillion delves into the history and mythology of Middle Earth. We learn who some of the heroes of Lord of the Rings are, and, even more, we learn about the history - the age of the Eldar, and the coming of Man, and the Numenorians (ancestors of the Dunedan) Everyone should read Tolkien's books. They are just the best fantasy has to offer.
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOKS Review: If you decide to read a book, choose these! They are fantastic reading material. I would recommend them to anybody. Great books.
Rating: Summary: The greatest fantasy series ever written. Review: I will be brief: I have never read a fantasy series that surpasses the Lord of the Rings, including the Hobbit. It is a simply brilliant series, and I cannot imagine what could make it better. With the exception of the Wheel of Time, I have never read a fantasy series that can even come close. A must-read for anyone who loves fantasy.
Rating: Summary: Truly a tale of beauty and wonder . . . Review: Tolkien has the wonderful gift of being able to take the reader along on an exciting adventure, making him or her a participant in this tale of beauty, wonder, and down-to-earth good sense. You will feel included - seeing the sights, experiencing the fear, loathing the terrible, and enjoying the successes. Additionally, Tolkien's use of the English language is very clever and entertaining, a delight in itself. Despite the fact that this is fantasy at its absolute finest, the reader will soon realize that there is much here that is readily applicable to everyday life and our relationships with others.
Rating: Summary: A Must read! Review: Read this book. It takes you to far off lands. Of moutains, rivers, hobbits. Tolkien can get carryed a way describing but if you skim over the fist lines of the describind parigrafs you'll get the Idea. I would recomend this book to people who love reading books over a millon times.
