Summary: After all these years, still the reference for fantasy!
Review: Few series have captured the imagination as LOD has. One quickly becomes enthralled by the characters and the world in which they live. Many have tried to create a fantasy to compare: The Xanth novels, Stephen Donaldson's 6 book series, the still popular DragonLance series, the Conan Series, and now Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time Epic. 80 years from now I'd like to see which of these series' 10 year old children are still reading. I put my money on LOD.

Review: I was first introduced to the Lord of the Rings while a middle-school student, and 15 years later, my passion for the trilogy is greater than it has ever been. J.R.R. Tolkien painstakingly describes the history and geography of Middle Earth he worked so long and creatively to develop with his masterful use of the English language, and languages of his own creation, in what I think is the greatest epic fantasy tale ever written. The perfect beauty and delight of Elves. The unfailing courage and love of Hobbits. The stout, sturdy, strong, and stubborn Dwarves. The peril, weakness, and power of Man. A loathsome yet pitiable creature named Gollum. Wizardry, romance, and ancient legend. And the delicate balance between the Evil of Mordor, the One Ring which binds, strengthens, and controls It, and the hopeless quest to defeat the coming darkness. These three novels possess everything the epic fantasy novel, as well as literature in general, has to offer, and I encourage everyone to experience the journey. I have traveled often through Middle Earth since my first steps outside Hobbiton and The Shire, and I never fail to return, to travel farther and wider through Tolkien's masterpiece.

Review: Not much more can be said for this awesome and vividly imaginative book. After reading this I often found myself talking like its characters. this book deserves more than five stars.

Summary: A fantastic fantasy.
Review: The hobbit and the lord of the rings both (or should I say all four) take you on adventures away from your real life trouble, then shortly after dreaming of characters: big as Smaug the dragon,little as a child hobbit/elf/or dwarf, fat (and as out of shape) as Bomber, thin as a, tall as,young as a baby man, and as old as the legends of the old (not to mention the ruin letters). The only problem is that when I started thinking about it, it was actually upseting for characters to pass away, or even be hurt or sent an adventure. But the most disturbing of all was the fact that as the time went on in the books, there were some friends (or enemy's) that you would never hear about again or that treasures would be lost forever mostly friendship and trust. I do hope that you at least read part of the book.

Review: The hobbit, by tolkien was great. the only problem I saw with it is that in its ending there was to much fighting. Overall I recommend the book.

Summary: Tolkien is tops, but this edition shaky on QUALITY
Review: I got this very boxed set the other day and The Hobbit fell apart on first reading. The cover just peeled right off as I read through! Boo to the publisher (Ballantine Books, NY) for messing up a classic of literature. Worse, I found spelling errors too... needless to say I got a refund and will get myself the Deluxe Edition.

Summary: Excelent Book, a little too much discription.
Review: A Tolkien masterpiece. The thing I didn't like is the amount of discription he put into his books. Although, it has an exellent plot as well as a stupendous story! I exeedingly enjoyed this series. A must read for fantasy lovers!!!
