Rating: Summary: All others pale by comparison Review: Lord of the Rings is the singular achievement of the century. I've read many fantasy books, and been disappointed by many of them, but I've never been disappointed by Tolkien. What else can I say that hasn't already been said. Buy it, read it, treasure it always.
Rating: Summary: I've read this 4 times! Review: Most recently to my 10 year old, who thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: One the single (?) greatest books of all time. Review: Some say LOTR is too wordy, too cumbersome for them to read. Well, I challenge them to create an interactive universe in any more brilliance with fewer words than Tolkien. Absolutely magical, and I mean that in every sense. It's a sweeping tale that I'm sure mostly everyone in the world is familiar with after Peter Jackson's astonishing film version (which, after you buy this collection, you should toss into your cart as well). A simple boxed set including the precursor to the LOTR trilogy, The Hobbit, it's a nice, inexpensive reminder of how visionary a human mind can be and how elegant the written word can be.
Rating: Summary: One of the greatest masterpieces of all time. Review: The title says it all, pretty much. It takes a long time to read unless you become obsessed and absorbed by it (which happened for me in intervals). It took me nearly four years to complete both The Hobbit and the trilogy, but it was worth every bit of effort. I can't even list it as my favorite book because all others feign in comparison to it. It is not even possible to compare. Read this book and you will never be sorry that you did. (By the way, I consider them to all be one book, as they are all part of one story.)
Rating: Summary: classic writing Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading these books. You want to start out with The Hobbit first before reading the others as it is the start of the story. It took me a while to get used to all the new and different characters, but when I did, the story flowed right along. These are books that you can easily enjoy reading several times over. I have a brother-in-law who has had to buy new books because he had worn the others out. I highly recommend the books.
Rating: Summary: Frodo Smodo Blodo Review: this book was hard to follow like why did voldemort not go after the ring i guess he was busy fighting harry but still and why dont the just eat the ring and let the digestive juices take care of it nothing beats thoso juices speaking of juices who else here likes gravy fordo didnt i dont think because it isnt mentioned in the trilogy which it shouldve been
Rating: Summary: The best book I've ever read by far...... Review: I LOVED L-O-V-E-D this book. It is the ultimate fantasy adventure series. I have read and re-read these books a total of 7 times. Tolkien creats a believable world and plot with materiel, that in anothers less talented hands, would have been beyond laugh-able. The Hobbit is a little more tame and I enjoyed it slightly less, but it sets up for the trilogy nicely. It is about the adventures of a hobbit named Bilbo and his dwarven compainions. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is about a hobbit named Frodo, Bilbo's second cousin twice removed, Gandalf the wizzard, and a mirad of other charecters. Each of them are described in amazing detail. Anyway basicaly an old evil is arising and trying to take over middle earth once more and the only way to stop it is to destroy it's "power base" (my only way of describing it!) For all who have not yet read this series I would more than highly suggest it.... It is beyond a classic and I have read more than my share of classics.
Rating: Summary: Sheer entertainment Review: Adventure, intrigue, and poeticism at its highest peak. This is one of the greatest stories of our time that will take you to a land beyond your imagination and sweep you into your wildest dreams. This is one of my personal favorites.
Rating: Summary: Worth your time Review: These books have been much underappreciated for too long and now that the movies are out they have a much wider audience, though that has unleashed a new plague upon the world: movie fans who think they know the books. If you are one of them, may become one of them, have simply seen the movies, or even haven't seen the movies then you should read the books. These books are a spectacular rendering of the writers' art, rich in details, plot and characters. While the amateur fantasy reader might find the sudden blast of this new world they are sudddenly exposed to a little overpowering or confusing, or even a little boring at times, it all combines to form a timeless epic that has already captured the hearts of millions and deserves a few more readers. Before you start reading (preferably with the hobbit) you have to prepare yourself for the onslaught of information that bombards you. With every chapter, every page, every sentance there is something new to digest some new name or place with an obscure and similar-sounding name that you have to catalog in your mind for future reference in case it should (and it probably will) come up again. This mass of information is probably the thing that turns so many people away from this book and though it takes a little getting used to the books are well worth the effort.
Rating: Summary: Must Have Book! Review: If you are into adventure books, this is your book. This book will call your name and make you want to read it. the case for all 4 books is nice, but if you are one who is rough with books, and has extra money, hardback would be nice. Overall, these books have held up very well for me, and i would buy this book a million times. Before i read this book i wasnt into reading as much as i am now, so i would definately recommend this book for any reader. Very good Price too!
