Summary: One of the best books I've ever read...
Review: I am a young reader but in my humble opinion, this is one of, if not the best book I've ever read. It was imaginative and sparked thoughts and emotions in me that I have never had before. I recomend this book to anyone who is looking for a port-hole into a whole new world of ecxitement, imagination, magic and learning. This book introduced me to a new line of mythological creatures and settings. I was moved by the triles and tribulations of the charicters of "The Hobbit". For anyone whos looking for a good recamendation, i give this set a big thumbs up!

Summary: sure, its racistic
Review: Although, I enjoyed the way the book is written, I must admit: IT IS RACIST. For those who are familiar with the WWII history, the story of the fight between the right and evil forces remind very much of the way German officers after the Second World War depicted their battles in the East front. Brave, blondish, heroic Teutons against immense, faceless mass of bastards from the East (i.e. Russians).

Summary: Nothing short of fantastic
Review: Some critics view the LOR as allegory, some as fantasy, some as a pure flight of fancy. As JRR Tolkien said, "The tale grew in the telling". He took much of his inspiration from the Norse sagas, many of the names were variations of names used in the myths. If one reads racism into his writings, then it his/her own viewpoints that take precedence, not Tolkien's. His world was a fantasy world and the anthropomorphic attributes he imparted to his characters were not so much a reflections of his prejudices, rather a utlilization of creative writing technique to make his characters believable. Hence the malintent of Old Man Willow, the malicious evil of the mountain, Caradhras(spelling?)and the human emotions of the Ents or Shepherds of the Trees. This is a wonderful tale full of lore, deepness of characters, of joy and of sadness. One feels pity for Sauron, corrupted by the evil of Melkor, yet is has lessons for all of us. There is in the characters, a little of each one of us. Do we wear the ring, and try to right all the wrong? Or do we cast it into Orodruin? This is a great novel, and one need look no further than that.

Summary: These books are excellent.
Review: I once asked my father what his favorite book was and he said that it was not one book but a trilogy of books called the Lord of the Rings. I myself am not particularly interested in fantasy books but when I read these books I was taken to another world. I have never been so deeply involved in a books as I was with these three. If my kids ever ask me what my favorite book is I will say not one but a trilogy called The Lord Of The Rings. These books are amazing.

Summary: Interesting but much too long
Review: Having heard very much about this "master piece" I fought my way through the 1,500+ pages. If it wasn't for the "Lord of the Rings" I would have stopped reading after 100 pages. Hudge descriptions of surrounding trees, plants, mountains and so on made it hard to keep the eyes open. Looking at 41 "5-Stars" I know that my ranking won't make me very popular, but this book isn't worth it!

Summary: excellent
Review: Timeless tale of good vs. evil, and it gets better each time you read it. The person who claims this story promotes racism is living in his own remote and paranoid world. Read the books, enjoy the trip, and see for yourself one of the greatest works of fantasy ever written. Suitable for kids as well as adults.

Summary: A captivating masterpiece
Review: I loved The Hobbit and the Triolgy. I was 12 when I first read it, I read it again two years later, and once more this year. I am now 16, and for a teenager with a job, sports, and school to use their time to read this series three times in five years says a lot. I only wish he wrote more books, I read whatever I can find that he wrote.

Review: The fact that most people who read this re-read it every 1-2 years is all that needs to be said.

Summary: An All-Time Classic
Review: You are never to old or too young to read this amazing trilogy. I have just finished and the expierence was nothing short of magical. I had develop a keen interest and sincerely cared for all of the characters throughout the book. It had ALL the right endings and didnt let up. Some people have complained the books are slow in the very begining, but I did not find this to be true. You will not be sorry, these books are excellent. They not only paved the way for a new kind of fantasy fiction novel but are an amazing story that all can enjoy. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND.
