Rating: Summary: The BEST in fantasy, past, present, and most likely future Review: I first read the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings in 1969 and have been re-reading it every year since. Like all good literature it stirs all the emotions. This is not only the best fantasy I've ever read but the best story I've ever experienced.I just finished reading The Hobbit to my 10 year old son. I would read him a chapter each night. He would call me at work each day just to be sure I would be on time to read the next chapter. Can you imagine a 10 year old boy running to the shower each night without a fuss? And then coming downstairs, handing me the book saying, "c'mon Dad". His exictement over this story is a memory I will treasure for the rest of my life. What a wonderful thing to share with your son. Thank you J.R.R. Tolkien!!!
Rating: Summary: Ageless entertainment. Review: After reading this series of books once a year for 25 years I still find them to be the best escape from front page news. Thankyou J.R.R.Tolkien for the pleasure. P.S. I like the fact that Hobbits eat like pigs.
Rating: Summary: I Love it! Review: I love The Hobbit because you actually get to know the characters and their personalities, unlike other books. It's funny, it's sad, it's exciting- it's a perfect book for all ages. I very strongly recommend these books. READ THEM.
Rating: Summary: This book is the greatest!!! Review: I first read the lord of the rings when I was 8 years old, and have read it about 5 times since. I am now 17... This book is so great because Tolkein has made a complete world in his mind. The story is an opening to this world, a snapshot of one enormous sequence of events that he has created in his head. The notes published by his son show how thorough and complete this world is. It is because of this completeness that the story is so great. We can see how the events fit into the history of the world, and how all the individual stories interlock to form the story as a whole. Never have I read a story that was so thorough in the telling. The writing itself is also excellent...and all that thoroughness would be worth nothing if Tolkien was not a great wordsmith and storyteller.
Rating: Summary: Only five stars? I'd give it a hundred! Review: Wow! Imaginative, creative, etc. What can I say? Read it 5 times and I'm only 12! One of the best books I've ever read!
Rating: Summary: Lets Face it Review: The greatest book ever writte
Rating: Summary: The best that I have ever read! Review: Starting with the Hobbit until the last page of the Return of the King, you enter a totally new and fantastic world where you feel that you are a part of it. I recommend this series to everyone.
Rating: Summary: If I could give more "stars" I would Review: OUTSTANDING!!!! (what else is there to say?) I first got hold of this masterpiece while in early elementary and I read the whole trilogy once a year, without a doubt they are my favorite books, and in my opinion the greatest novels ever written.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book of the Millenium... Review: I'm not joking! This book acts as my Bible... J.R.R. Tolkien is one of the greatest writers! His exellent character discriptions, intriguing plot design, great detail, setting, and background history, are all just a few of the many wonderful elements that contribute to making this book one of a kind. It's a shame so many people have never read it; if only the government paid a little attention to the LotR...
Rating: Summary: unique, one-of-a-kind, my precious Review: These stories can't really be compared to any others. Some readers of more modern fantasy works often find them lacking and somewhat old fashioned. Personally, most fantasy novels bore me to tears. How many different variations can you come up with on Elves, Wizards, magic swords, etc.? All of them owe some debt of gratitude to Tolkiens works and, in my opinion, none come close to them in impact. They not only deserve a single reading, they inspire and demand a re-visiting every couple of years. Each time I read them I dread arriving at the last page, knowing that the experience is over again.
