Summary: The Hobbit/ The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Review: One of the greatest collection of books ever written. Tolkein's epic story stands timeless and enjoyed by millions, years after it's first publication. His wonderful style of writing pulls the readers into his imaginative world and makes them beg for more. Starting from the point after Bilbo's travels (you can start with the first book of the trilogy, but it's just not the same) the story of the middle-earth unfolds and the ring's story is told in The Fellowship of the Rings and the books that follow. The story will stir your imagination and bring the vibrant spirit of Tolkein's writing to the homes of many to come.

Summary: THESE ARE THE BEST BOOKS EVER WRITTEN
Review: J.R.R. Tolkien, master writer, created this trilogy of books. These books take you to a whole new world as they follow the hobbit Frodo Baggins on his adventures to destroy the ring of power. Clever, descriptive, and action packed theese books are a MUST read.

Summary: More than a book
Review: I had heard a lot about the LOTR before i decided to tackle it. I'd always been told it was brillant and well worth reading but I was unsure of how a book could create all those fellings. Having read the hobbit when i was young, I started on the book one The Fellowship Of The Ring. Exactly one week later, I was finished the whole series and starting the Hobbit again. People had raved about it, but they had underestimated it. For a week it took me away to another world and didnt let me go till the end. I loved it and can now say I am very much a huge fan. Even if you don't like fantasy books, read the LOTR. It is much much more than just a book, it's a whole world you escape to.

Summary: Can only be compared to Shakespeare's work
Review: This series is quite simply one of the best pieces ever written. I read the books when I was 12 and I was utterly mesmerized by Tolkien's ability to capture my imagination and keep my heart pounding. As I read them I realized the mindblowing images conjured up in my mind was exactly what the author tried to achieve. Fixation on the world that he created was a natural thing for me and others. I was literally brought to tears at the ending of the book, just wanting more of the characters and more of the story. This book is not for all admittedly but those who like to free their mind and just soak it all up, this book will become engraved in your soul.

Summary: Truly deserves 5 stars, more if possible.
Review: This is certainly J.R.R. Tolkien's greatest works. A truly compelling fantasy epic. I've got the book at home, and I've been reading it more than 4 times already, not because of understanding problems but of great interest and the excitement of reading this great book over and over again. The story just can't bore me. Truly a great book.

Summary: A masterpiece
Review: These are the best books I have read and of course the writer is the master of literature. I have read these books in Icelandic and I'm going to buy them in English too.

Summary: Good, but overrated
Review: Now I know that it is almost sacreligious to say that Tolkien is anything but great, but I have my reasons. I first read this book, when I was about ten. Back then I was hooked. I used to read it again and again and again. But now I've taken a look at it through more critical eyes, and have found quite a few problems with it. I won't say it's steriotypical, because it's not copying something it's being copied by others, and I think alot of the objections given in these reviews are outrageous. It started the whole modern fantasy trend, which I think is wonderful. But I will say that the ending really ticked me off. It smacks too much of the 'and they lived happily ever after' ending of fairy tales. Another thing is that noone (with the possible exception of the King of Rohan, and the Steward of Gondor) of importance to the Reader dies. I mean, all the friends still come through it okay. Now this is ridiculous, and it is just not realistic. Another problem is that he seems to have resorted to the 'Power for Power's' sake motivation in his bad guys. This is not as bad as 'Evil for Evil's sake', but its still pretty bad. The bad guys seem to have no depth of charachter whatsoever. I will not say that he's not one of the better ones, and is certainly great compared with some of the junk ones today, the names David Eddings and Robert Jordan springing to mind, but he is not the Penomenon that everyone supposes.

Read this book, it will give you an excellent view into what inspired the great new Fantasy movement, but also take my advice and look for some authors that are really good, with well developed charachters and real losses in their books, like Janny Wurts or Michael Moorcock.

Summary: Lothlorien
Review: My world is Tolkien's world. I've read the Lord of the Rings twice now, and its become more than a story, it has become my life. I cant wait until the day when I see my own Lothlorien, after I pass away from this world. I have found most of this world's religions to be petty and trite, should I need a religion, I've found it MiddleEarth. There lies no religion, no convictions, no techonology, none of this world's evils. I should be happy the day I set foot on a new land, and I step into the Westernesse.

A Elbereth Gilthoniel!
