Rating: Summary: the most amazing book! Review: This story realy changed my life. I think it is the most beautiful story and everyone who skip it just don't know what he's missing. Every person that love fantasy books must read this one...
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: This is probably the best set of books that I have ever read. JRR Tolkien is one of the best authors ever. It's just the way he can create a whole world on his own. It's just amazing.
Rating: Summary: Tolkein Is The Master Of Fantasy Review: Tolkein is a complete genius. He has created a history so unbelievably believable and exact that while reading his work I felt myself being drawn to the possibility that maybe this is what came before us. His ability to create a entire world and its peoples, its history so precise, that it is in some ways more believable than ours is truly unmatchable. The LoTR is the most captivating trilogy I have evr read. His description of the characters feelings and motives in every circumstance and their backgrounds and relationships to each other are so descriptive and true to each character that to say he is a good author is to do Tolkein a great injustice. He is the Lord of fantasy writing and although thaere are others who can perhaps match his story telling, there is no writer in my opinion, who can match his attentiveness to every aspect of every detail in a story to make it so true that you learn to feel the characters movements. I have heard some ridiculous arguements such as Tolkein used the story as a premise for racial messages and the story is merely a disguise of racist literature. I am black myself and have looked for what people may concieve as a racist undertone, but can not find any sentence which could be misconstrewed by anyone bar a complete idiot. Wake up, and take the novel for what it is; an epic tal;e of good Vs evil. I am sorry if when Tokein referred to sauron's evil as a "black" shadow, maybe the land could have been engulfed in a flurry of white flowers. Get over yourselves and speak out against Real Racism, not using the colour Black to describe Evil in a terrific story. I thouroughly recommend to anyone who appreciates Tolkeins attention to detail to read anything he has ever published, you will only be more and more enthralled in the way of Middle Earth, throughout the ages.
Rating: Summary: Just my opinion Review: If my memory is correct, Tolkien's main motivation for writing these books was to entertain readers. To his credit, he has. I would be hesitant to look for hidden meanings or philosophical undertones in these stories, however. When anyone sits down to write something, they are inescapably hindered, at least to some extent, by their own prejudices and social position. Are there racist undertones to The Lord of the Rings? Maybe. The books are clearly not without fault. Never the less, I have enjoyed reading them more than any other book I have picked up.
Rating: Summary: The Hobbit & The Lord of The Rings: The Best Edition. Ever! Review: I think it's the best edition of The Hobbit + The Lord of The Rings ever published. If you want to buy a set, buy this, not the Millennium Edition.
Rating: Summary: An ingenius literary masterpiece Review: Being a legend of 1,086 pages, the Lord of the Rings is truly the only book one can read and feel like you've stepped off a train which has transported you from Tolkiens' world and back into yours. It is by far the longest book I have ever had the amazing pleasure and honor to read. I highly suggest you take part in Frodo's adventure with his faithly servant, Samwise, in a overly valiant effort to overthrow the dark lord, Sauron. It is a tale of triumph and defeat; of death and glory; and of sadness and great joy. If you do not read this book, you will be doing yourself a great injustice.
Rating: Summary: Say What? Review: The best books ever written. You can't compare any of the other fantasy writers to Tolkien. He's the best.
Rating: Summary: Big Red Book Review: The Hobbit was of course one of the best Fantasy/sci fi books ever written. It includes adventure, excitement, magic, and the stuff hereos are made of Courage. The one thing it misses is a romantic side sprout. A big minus if you like that sourt of thing. The Big red book is a combining of the sequels into one book. It is filled with everything in the hobbit and that little love side sprout. Dare to follow the Hobbits nephew as he fights the ultimate evil! And everything else imaginable. If you liked the hobbit try reading The Shannara Series great books filled with magic and adventure.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: THE BOOK IS NOT RACIST, YOU GOT THAT? You people who say it's racist are probably the most picky people I have ever heard in my life! And as for giving it one star... I'm not even gonna say. This book is wonderful. I really recommend it, to... EVERYONE!
Rating: Summary: Five stars is not enough for a masterpiece such as this! Review: By far the best fantasy and the best book in general, I can claim it with no reserve. It opens the door into a wonderful world of Middle - Earth, inhabiting incredible creatures that are so magnifficent and original and yet so close to us, and great characters that will make you laugh at them, shudder with fear or clap in admiration - everything in this book seems to work! It is so simple and yet so complicated, so plain and so deep - Tolkien was a true master! Tolkien's magic partialy lies in that he took his creatures and molded his world based on ancient religions and fairy tales so it is close to us, quite familliar, plain and understandable, and yet does not copy any of those ancient myths but is original and completly idependant of any already (at the time) existant works. It is a book you will always come back to and maybe have to buy again! After reading this book, all other stories seemed to lose their high stats, and grading any fantasy book comparing it to Tolkien is almost silly, like comparing atoms and space. And yes: I mean it from the scientific point of view, atoms are a space in small, and so they are: fantasists, even horror and other writers have been influenced by Tolkien ever since. And not only them - computer games, cartoons, movies, J.R.R.'s work is in everything, except your obligatory morning cup of coffe! Every bad side of this book you will read in other reviews is either caused by the fact people don't understand fantasy in general (and these are not rare, for LotR is not a book for everyone, only for free and childlike minds capable of consuming and being consumed by such a divine and comprehensive world)or are a simple hair-splitting. Accusing Tolkien of racism is pure disregarding of symbolism that is greatly used, where white represents good and black evil. Considering him sexist... a woman killed the second most dangerous bad guy! LotR has a few female characters, but they are well characterised and important, unlike certain fantasists who promote armies of female characters who primarily exist as sexual objects in their books! Oh, actually, I rest my case. This book turned all my views on literature upside down, got me to write and almost (and I'm not out of it yet) ruined me because of it's incredible influence it had on me and everyone I know that had read this book. Press the "buy" button now, and you will not be sorry! Hail to Tolkien, the Father and the Master of all fantasists!
