Rating: Summary: minimum: 6 stars Review: What can I tell you about the most fantastic story ever written? READ IT! You`ll never forget it (I promise). I usually don`t like books with no message, but oddly enough I devoured it when I was 12 and I`ve read it six times since now (17). But perhaps, there`s a strong message behind the story. It`s about changing of times, a very important subject for everyone. The Lord of the Rings is a mythical novel which has fascinated me, touched me, made me writing myself. It have had a really strong influence on me and all the Tolkien - fans out there. So, this summer I`going to read it in English. P.S. I`m looking forward to wachting the LotR - movie in 2001 and I really can`t think of something else sometimes.
Rating: Summary: The Best I have ever read! Review: In my opinion Tolkien books are the best written books I have ever read(that may sound corny but its very true to me). I have found his explination of things to be nice and satisafying but not too overdoing as do de-interest you in his books. Another book I suggest if you like Tolkien is Wizard of Earthsea.
Rating: Summary: If Only I Could Go Beyond Five Stars Review: Plain and simple... this is fantasy as its finest.
Rating: Summary: If you are a parent... Review: I think LOTR series is one of the greatest trilogies ever written. My mother use to read me Hobbit when I was little and because that I started to read by myself when I was 6 years old, so I could read some more of this wonderful story or any other book I could get my hands on, this book gave me some wonderful things. Expended my imagination, I wanted to read more books and be involve in activities like art, history and sports or any creative disciplines. If you are a parent, Hobbit is the greatest book you could ever read to your child. Although LOTR is for anyone, any age. Just great.
Rating: Summary: Magical Book Of Pure enjoyment Review: It was a story of many great characters Trying for their money
Rating: Summary: and on the first day God created Tolkien.. Review: Some have come close (Eddings,Jordan,Feist) but none have ever surpast Tolkein.Do'nt bother buying just one book to see if you like it,go for the boxed set and save the aggro of having to wait 48hrs for Amazon to send you the rest! The Hobbit is the perfect place to start your romp through Middle Earth, it's easy going and leaves you with a warm feeling!LoR starts off the same way, then BANG it hits you with the hardcore stuff and you'll never be the same again! For you die hards out there the Silmarillion will be the cherry on the cake(Middle Earth is not all Hobbits u know! )
Rating: Summary: Often imitated, never duplicated. Review: This is the ultimate fantasy epic. Though at times it can be a difficult read, it is well worth the effort. This is definitely an epic you will want to read more than once. Many authors have tried to do fantasy epics, most noteably Terry Brooks. All fall far short of the accomplishment of Tolkien. With a Christian ideal and a brilliant mind, he took fantasy to a new level. There are definitely two separate major storylines, with at least a dozen or so subplots, none ever interfereing with each other, but in fact enhancing the main theme: the attempted destruction of the One Ring. Are they successful? Read the book! The only other fantasy epic that comes even close is the Chronicals of Narnia from J.R.R. Tolkien's friend, C.S. Lewis (Notice the use of initials again), another must read, though that is much easier reading (i.e. like the Hobbit). Start with the Hobbit (the precurser to LOTR). It's much lighter reading and gets you familiar with Middle Earth. If you are hooked for more after LOTR, finish with the Simarilion. It gives all the history before LOTR takes place and explains quite a bit that makes no immediate sense, but be warned: it reads like the King James Bible. A brilliant series.
Rating: Summary: Great Books. NOT RACIST Review: Excellent books. Some of the most creative literature I have ever read. Anybody who says these are racist are looking for racism, and are going to find it anywhere anyway. I grew up sorrounded by racism, and I didnt see any in this book. The next thing I am going to hear is that light waves are racist becuase it is white. Please,...lets get over the racist thing. All we are doing is continuing to perpetuate the problem.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic escapism Review: If you want to get away from it all, and meet some lovely characters (and some evil ones too) along the way, this is the classic to get. JRRT was masterful in bringing this place, Middle Earth, to life. Great tale for underdogs.
Rating: Summary: GROIN GRABINGLY GOOD! Review: I really don't know what to say (my review title pretty much does it itself!). The Hobbit has to be the best book ever made. The way Tolkein puts you in a completely different world is amazing. I felt like (and really wished I was) in his world. I began to feel like I personally knew all the characters. The book is actually quite simple to read, but is very adventerous and fun. Some of it can be amusing at times. However, I was a little disappointed with The Lord of the Rings. These books take away the fun and enjoyable atmosphere of The Hobbit and seem to force you to read about things you really don't care about. I really began to loose interest around the middle of The Two Towers. I think The Lord of the Rings is pretty much for fanatics that need to know everything about this fictional world. I would therefore definitely recommend The Hobbit and read that before buying The Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit is the best!
