Summary: A Masterpiece
Review: Tolkien did the unthinkable, he wrote a book which no one can stay indifferent to.You can like it or you can hate it, but you can not ignore it.The book begins at an unexpected party and ends an unexpected end with uncountable adventures and colorful charecters in between.Do not be intimidated by the books size, after one chapter you will not be able to put it down. So do yourself a favour and read "The hobbit" (which acts as a long prologue to "Lord of the rings") and then read "Lord of the rings" and enjoy storytelling at its best.

Summary: Tops in fantasy...
Review: These books are by far the best fantasy ever written. The characters are great, and so is the story line, which has many connections to real life. When I read the book (and it isn't all that hard to read) it changed my life. Every fantasy fan should be very grateful for this masterpiece, for if it wasn't for Tolkien we wouldn't have this great genre to explore.

Summary: Definitely, the best of the genre...
Review: After picking up the Lord of the Rings off my bookcase, I dusted it off and thought, "I OUGHT to read this..."

Well, I started reading and couldn't put it down. Literally. When I finished this magnificent book, all I could say was "WHOA." Anyone who can read should read this book.

Summary: GREAT BOOKS - DEFINATELY A MUST READ
Review: I have loved these books ever since my Mom read the "riddles" from the Hobbit aloud to my family when I was about 6. Later at 12, she read the Hobbit to my older sister and me. Tis last Christmas my favorite present was a gift from Mom and Dad of the LOTR set. Mom is now in the proccess of reading the books to the whole family! These are great books. THere are very few books of this quality being printed today! I am continually amazed at JRR Tolkein's creativity and imagination. He not only created fictional beings, but also made up the different languages. He was a very talented man.

I think my favorite character is Aragorn. Then Gandalf and Frodo. I have a warm spot for Arwen Evenstar, because my sister is named after her.

I cannot believe that some people believe they are dry. BUT, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I truly believe that they are a GREAT addition to any library!

Summary: Premier fantasy novel
Review: Without a doubt this is one of finest examples of the fantasy genre ever written. The characters are complex and believable while the story is fast-paced and invigorating. If you read any other novel from this genre, you will see signs of Tolkien all over it. He was truly a genius.

Summary: Best Book Ever
Review: Marvelous book, Best book I ever read. J.R.R Tolkein's marvelous work and the details which he painstakingly created should be read by everyone.

Summary: Classic Fantasy. The best there is. Period.
Review: I've read the trilogy probably 25 times throughout my life. I've just re-read them after 10 years, and I can't put it down. The character development takes your breath away, and the diversity of ideas and characters and description of locations and evil-ness is awe-inspiring. My favorites are the Ents, the flight through Moria, and of course...Frodo & Sam's journey. It's amazing. A classic!

Summary: I remember the magic...
Review: When I first read the Lord of the Rings, I ended up living more in Middle-Earth than in my own world. It completely carried me away. It was the same the second and third time I read it. By the fourth, it was becoming flat. I haven't read it since. Don't misunderstand, it is wonderful -- and few tales stand up to that much repeat reading. But I had to write this review to tell you that there is one fantasy tale that surpasses this one in sheer beauty, sensitivity, depth, and magic. If you want to read a tale that will never get old (I'm finishing my 7th time through it, and it's still perfect), read Patricia McKillip's RIDDLE-MASTER: THE COMPLETE TRILOGY.

J.R.R. Tolkein would have told you the same.

Summary: Captivating & Unforgettable
Review: Read these books 25 years ago. Images conjured up during the reading (which only took about 2 weeks, since I called off sick to read!) pop into my mind at any given time. I am now looking to order the set for my 12-year old daughter, since I gave the original to my oldest son (31, now), and have missed them ever since! Have told my daughter what a thrill it will be to read, and am looking forward to getting the new set and getting started reading it together!
