Summary: Read it before it's too late!
Review: OK, OK. You have seen the numerous reviews. Five stars, five stars, five stars; It's unanimous (almost). What is NEW is that the first of three huge MOVIES based on these books will be released this December. So if you haven't got around to it, or if you haven't read these books in a long time, I suggest you do so NOW, so you can form (or refresh) your own images of these great books.

Summary: Five Stars Isn't Enough. J.R.R. Tolkien Is The Best
Review: J.R.R. Tolkien is a master of the English language. I first read the hobbit when I was thirteen and loved it and have read it a couple more times in the two years it has been since I first read it but when I heard about it from my Mom,and she encouraged me to read it so she bought it for me and I loved it I read it in about two weeks the first time and in two days the second time (thats how interesting it was!!) . The first chapter is a little difficult to get through but after that it got more and more interesting! I have recommended this book to any one that likes to read, and to my friends who don't because I don't like to read but I will always make an exception for the outstanding works of Tolkien! I say this book has helped me grasp things in life because of the symbolism, and also who does not like a great story of an unlikely hero who in most cases represents most of us in our everyday life just trying to overcome our struggles this book was the best book I have ever or probably will ever read I loved it!Thank you for reading my review now go get the book it is the best!

Summary: Spiritually Uplifting
Review: This series by Tolkien is the most masterful series of fiction in all of history. It is an uplifting book with the classic battle of good versus evil. Spiritually it helped me see the constant struggle between good and evil. These books make me feel like the time of middle earth really existed. I feel like in our past, the world that J.R.R. Tolkien created truly existed. I have never felt this way about any other books that i have read. What an experience.

Summary: The Greatest Fantasy Series
Review: What can I say - this classic will never loose its appeal

Summary: The Lord of the Rings
Review: This is a classic collection, and it remains one of my favorites. These are some of the most popular in the fantasy genre, and with good reason. JRR Tolkiens style of writing submerges the reader in the setting through amazing description and detail.

The wording of this book can be a little tricky at times, and it may take a couple times to catch all the details, but this is the type of book that can be read over and over again. If you're into the fantasy genre, I highly recommend these books.

Summary: simply the best
Review: My 6th grade teacher gave me "The Hobbit." That is what I remember most about him. The book led me to the LOTR and I have re-read the series quite often since. If you want to make an impression on a young adult, give him/her this series.

Summary: Capturing imaginations
Review: I was a young adult before hearing of Tolkien's lure. So when camping in the Chiricahuas of Arizona with my three youngsters, I'd brought The Hobbit for my late-night reading. The kids actually pleaded for a sample, so--with lantern light in a too-small tent under the night-shadow of steep mountainsides--I read them a chapter of Gollum, his "Precious" and Bilbo at the root of their mountain. I'm a pretty good reader-aloud. They were fascinated, terrified, and raptly attentive. They all enjoyed it, but it "took" best on the youngest. A Coast Guard C-130 pilot now, I honestly believe that the quests and adventures and sacrifices J.R.R. Tolkein graced his boy-mind with have led him to join the fellowship he saw as closest to The Ring. I urge parents to introduce children to these brilliant, energetic, fun, fearsome, and ennobling tales.

Summary: When I was 5, Gollum was my hero
Review: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are the avocado in the guacamole of fantasy. (I hesitate to label these books "fantasy" since books of that genre are feeble imitations of Tolkien's classics.) Need a vacation? Take off to Middle Earth. Need stress relief? Take two little hobbits, and call me in the morning.

And don't forget to read the appendices.

Summary: Reid's Review
Review: The Hobbit was my first book that I have read by J.R Tolkien. I enjoyed this book. The main reasons why I rated this book as I did were the many exciting adventures. The variety of characters also made this book very enjoyable. Another reason I enjoyed this book was that it was a different genre of book that I have read and I actually enjoyed it. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys adventures and stories that are full of excitement. This book is very interesting once you get into it and it is hard to put down. I also have some reasons of why I did not enjoy this book. One reason would be that I struggled to get into the book. The first 20- 30 pages were very hard for me to enjoy, although overall i did like this book.

Summary: 5 stars are not enough!
Review: I have no idea how many times I've read this trilogy. Certainly over 30. I have also read almost every other fantasy which has achieved any sort of popularity, and nothing really comes close. (Well, Guy Gavriel Kay and Orson Scott Card, maybe, and George R. R. Martin's new series is shaping up to be very special - but I digress!) What makes it so re-readable, aside from the unparalleled level of world-building and a story arc that defined modern fantasy pretty well single-handedly, is the WRITING. Tolkien's love for and mastery of the English language makes LOTR a true work of literature in the best sense of the word. Every detail of the plot has long since burned itself into my brain, but the sheer pleasure I take from letting the words flow by ensures that I will be reading these books forever. There are a lot of great plot-spinners out there these days (Eddings, Donaldson, Robert Jordan in particular is taking that to new heights - or depths), but I only read those books to find out what happens next. Their use of the language rarely (and in some cases never) rises above mere competence. None of them could have turned me into a voracious life-long reader the way Tolkien did. If you think the complexity of the language is going to be a barrier, there's lots of other terrific British fantasy you can cut your teeth on. C.S. Lewis, Joan Aiken, Susan Cooper, Alan Garner and of course J. K. Rowling are just a few. You have to be ready for this book (which might be considered a criticism these days), but if you are it will be a unique and life-changing experience. I hope all that wasn't too over the top...
