Rating: Summary: Awsome set of books. Review: The set of books is one of the best that were ever written. The Hobbit, Fellowship of the Rings, Two Towers, and The Return of the King are some of the best books ever. For a full fledged fan of Middle Earth this is a must. This is also a classic that must be read. If you have not read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings I suggest you read the now!
Rating: Summary: best of the best Review: With all the chacters and plot twists this is a must buy set of books. The best book I have ever read. J.R.R. Tolkein was a genius and a master at what he did. toatally amazing
Rating: Summary: a masterpiece Review: I tremendously enjoyed the first three books, especially the second book, the fellowship of the rings, where the story line unfolded in a very delicate and careful fashion. I love his paragraphs about the Old Forest and Lothlorien... The last book, however, is a bit of disappointment. It almost seems to me like the author wanted to close as soon as possible. But on the other hand, without careful thinking, I couldn't figure out a better ending either...
Rating: Summary: *Warning: Page-Turners Inside* Review: Tolkien in his books details every situation and scenery thoroughly in this collection. I recommend these works to people who enjoy adventure stories involving magic, monsters and world liberation. Once you start reading, you get involved in the action through rich english and a clear description of every moment making you want to keep reading, and after putting it down, you will long to read more and see how Bilbo or Frodo are going to get out of that mess. Great creativity, and a lot of original names. The writer spared no detail in these classics.I suggest you buy, rent or borrow them, because these are great books worth reading and having. I also encourage those who afer reading this set want more to read Tolkien's "The Simillarion", which describes the world these stories take place in many years before "The Hobbit" unfolds.
Rating: Summary: All-time classic fantasy AND novel. Review: Rather than wax eternal about how wonderful this series is, I'll keep it brief and share a thought. That thought is to emphasize the sadness, the sense of humanity about LOTR. Tolkien's series is NOT simply about a ring and trying to destroy it, nor is it just about the battle between good and evil (both BETWEEN people and WITHIN themselves). It is a series focused on the sadness of watching a world change (the Hobbits') as well as an entire race cease to be (the elves). The changes in LOTR are good, but they do not come without sacrifice. This theme, against the strong plot and tremendously well-developed fantasy world, make LOTR the all-time classic.
Rating: Summary: Gandalf strikes again Review: I think the series is one if not the greatest book in the last century. It contains the most indepth details imaginable. My mother is an English teacher, and she could critique it much better than I, but I do think it is a fabulous book overall.
Rating: Summary: It was painful for me ending reading these books... Review: I wish it was the first time again. I read "The Lord of the Rings" when I was 9 (the second book I read in my life) and that made me learn to love reading. I was delighted by Tolkien descriptions of nature and characters. Tolkien books, and specially these, were the great imaginary adventures of my childhood. Nowadays I sometimes enjoy rereading Tolkien, but my scope of favourite books has been widely opened. Tolkien has the fault of my love to reading! "The Lord of the Rings" and "The hobbit" are the best fantastic stories ever written and not only this, but also an imaginary world with all its landscapes, characters, languages, poetry and history. Tolkien, alone, discovered that land of dreams for the mankind. Good for you if you are about to reading it for the first time.
Rating: Summary: Tolkien Remains Tolkien Review: As an author with my debut novel in its initial release, I am often asked at speaking engagements about my youthful reading experiences. While I am a mystery writer, I almost always cite J.R.R. Tolkien as an important early influence. I remember being in the eighth grade, reading THE LORD OF THE RINGS along with a group of close friends. These were fascinating books then, and they remain so today. In high school, a familiarity with THE HOBBIT really impressed a certain young lady I had grown interested in. These books are wonderfully written stories with strong ethical codes embedded within them. I still find myself occasionally re-reading them, and my teenaged children have all found copies of this set given to them for special occasions. You can't make a mistake in reading Tolkien.
Rating: Summary: Don't Wait Another Minute! Review: You cannot die without reading these books. It's that simple.
Rating: Summary: The crossover of fantasy novels Review: I hate fantasy. At least I did until I picked up "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings." It is a stirring adventure that brings you in emotionally, and ties you into the characters in such a way that what they suffer, you suffer. When these novels were recommended to me, I laughed. But after reading them, I vehemently advise you to buy them and begin reading them immediately. One of the best things I've ever read, even if you traditionally hate elves and dragons, you will love this set. And if you're a fantasy buff and haven't read this yet, you're not a true buff. Happy reading!
