Summary: Not enough stars........
Review: For some reason, I have been reading my set once a year for many years. I have been described as a child in an old body, but when I read Tolkien my adult mind is intriqued. A new world peopled by fascinating characters brought together in an attempt to make sense of a cold, violent world. Good reading for today's world, and thought provoking if you let the adult read along with the child.

Summary: A True Master..
Review: J.R.R. Tolkien did not just write a book, he created a world! You learn to love the people of Middle Earth as you read. I laughed and cried with and for them as they struggled to save their world. When I return to the pages, I get to revisit my friends.

Summary: Great Trilogy
Review: I at first read the hobbit when I was 12 years old, and didn't really appreciate how well written the book was. Six years later, I again picked up the book and couldn't put it down. Since then I have also read the other books in the Lord of the Rings set. Each of the books have been intricatly connected in a way that wraps the reader into the hobbits world. From the very beginging of the book you begin to see through the eyes of a tiny, furry creature. In conclusion, I have found the books to be a complete escape from reality and a real trip to middle earth.

Summary: This is the one of the best books in the world!
Review: J.R.R. Tolkien.... My personal favorite author. I have only read two books I enjoy more then the lord of the rings. I just hope they do not mess up the movies too bad. The hobbit is a wonderful book full of little creatures like hobbits and dwarves and eagles. If you are looking for a great book to read try J.R.R. tolkiens books. They are worth reading

Summary: Well Worth a Re-read
Review: In anticipation of the movie, I picked up the Lord of the Rings trilogy last summer because I had never actually finished reading it as a kid. What a difference 20 years makes! I found the writing crisp, intelligent, witty, and engaging - all the qualities of a great book, in my opinion. The only drawback in my mind was Tolkien's over-doing it a bit with the life in the Shire in the first book. That's what I couldn't get past as a kid and it nearly stopped me cold again this time. But then again, who am I to criticize a work that's truly become a cultural icon?

Summary: The Foundation For A Genre
Review: JRR Tolkien's "Lord Of The Rings" Trilogy, with its lighter prequel "The Hobbit" is the greatest fantasy series ever written. Unlike most fantasy, which is pleasant fun but of little substance, "Lord of the Rings" is great literature and is the basis for the entire fantasy genre. Tolkien's main characters, the small, awkward (and sometimes cowardly) hobbits are able to overcome the greatest evil the world has even known by going on a quest to the last place that evil would expect to find them - right at the heart of darkness. The storyline of the small and common hero defeating the powerful forces of evil has practically become a cliche in fantasy literature, yet it works here in part because Tolkien invented the concept, and in part because the story is so good and the characters so believable. Read these books, they are amazing.

Summary: Great Fantasy Adventure Gets My 5 Stars
Review: The Hobbit is a great book by J.R.R Tolkien. I think he used a lot of GATS(Great Appeal To Senses)and he made this book suspending and exciting. I would recomend this book to any one who likes fantasy and adventure. The Lord of the Rings the sequal to The Hobbit is as good if not better than The Hobbit. The tale is more riviting and there is more action and excitement than in The Hobbit. Tolkien put melencholy and cheery and wierd poems and songs that the charecters sing and say along the way. My favorite poem is out of The Hobbit. So I give these books a big 5 star award(it be higher if they let me go higher).

Summary: Furry Feat
Review: The ultimate fantasay epic tale of ancient travellers and ancient ways. A really heart warming journey, filled with excitment, adventure, sadness and joy. One of the most classic stories of the never ending confrontation between good and evil. I loved the stroytelling historical accounts, and all the songs and poems. It's nice to experience how things might have been, in an age of oral history, magic, and wonder. Although, there is probably just as much wagic and wonder today as there is in these books, we just don't take the time to see it.

Summary: Inspiring
Review: After growing up on a diet of excellent Irish myths and legends I spent one summer during my student days feasting on Lord of the Rings. Many years later it remains by far my most favourite read - the ultimate victory of good over evil. I now want to buy separate boxed sets as gifts to my children so that they can enjoy and share their enjoyment with me.

Summary: wonderful story
Review: i'm just about done reading this book for only the second time in my life and i still love it. what a rich world tolkein created. the only problem i would have with this story is that the bad guys, the orcs, the nazgul, the black riders, and so on, are pretty much two dimensional. it may not have gone well with the flow of this story, but it would have been nice to see more richness in their characterization. that's a small pebble of gripe in the ocean of creativity though. a wonderful tale...and i hope the film will be as good if not better.
