Summary: Delightful series
Review: I'm almost finished reading the Hobbit for the first time. This collection is a bargin and a treasure. This is the newest revised edition that "represents as closely as is possible Tolkien's final intented form." (Note on the Text) It is a beautiful boxed set that is sturdy and light weight. The Hobbit is a delightful and refreshing story of an ordinary Hobbit turned extrordinary through his adventures with his dwarf friends and wizard Gangdalf. I can hardly wait to strat reading the Lord of the Rings and see how it compares to the movie.

Summary: Oh, what else can one say: it's the best
Review: If you try it that is. I know a lot of people who shudder at the tought of reading an 1000 pages long book filled with ancient genealogies, people with unpronouncable names and strange creatures. Well, they don't know what they're missing, this book is undoubtebly one of the all time greats of world literature. This is the original, without tis one no Harry Potter, no Pratchett, probably even no things as Stephen King or a whole load of other stuff. I you haven't already read him now is the time cause even if the movie is great, this is still so much better.
PS: Hobbits rule supreme

Summary: Simply the Best
Review: I first read The Lord of the Rings over 20 years ago, and have read it another three times since. It is by far the best book I have ever read. Others pale in comparison to it. It essentially ruined reading for me since I cannot find anything remotely comparable to this wonderful series. I read The Lord of the Rings first, and The Hobbit later. I am glad I did so because The Hobbit, although interesting because of the background information it provides for The Lord of the Rings, is not written with the same depth and sophistication. I am not sure I would have read The Lord of the Rings had I read The Hobbit first. So, I would advise new readers to understand that The Hobbit is an introduction to a much more wonderful world.

Summary: Not much more to say
Review: This is obviously the best Trilogy of books ever written. How it is possible for one man to make up an entire world with many different languages and a long, detailed history is beyond me. I first became addicted to The Hobbit (or There and Back Again) in 6th grade (approx 8 years ago). I had not begun the Trilogy until last year. For anyone with a vivid imagination, for anyone who would just like to escape reality, you will fall in love with these books. There may be Dragonlance and there maybe Forgotten Realms and there maybe Dungeons & Dragons, but where do you think it all originated? Right here. If you cannot appreciate these books, than you are deprieved of comprehending literary genius. You cannot give these books anything less than 10 stars.

Summary: Awesome book, riveting
Review: I couldn't put it down. A great story line with complex plot. In maybe 3rd grade i read The Hobbit for some reason and i stopped near the middle of the book. Now in 7th grade i read it again because i remembered the book and loved it. I went on to buy Lord of the Rings and it was even better than the Hobbit. I just finished the last book of the series (Return of the King) and now i am going on to read The Silmarillion.

Summary: Read these books to your children
Review: For all parents who have taken your children to the newly released "Lord of the Rings", I challenge you to pick up "The Fellowship of the Ring" and read it aloud to your children. This will work best with kids 10 and older. Read a page or two every night at bedtime. I've read through "The Hobbit" twice to our kids, and have read through "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy once to them. Our boys are all teenagers. We read every night for 20-30 minutes. We've also unplugged our TV and replace this time with reading in our home. Tolkein is an excellent storyteller, with vivid descriptions a cinematographer can only begin to play with. Your child's imagination is so much greater than that of any movie maker. Give them the gift of your time and Tolkein's genius writing: Read Tolkein Aloud to your Kids!

For two books filled with other creative ideas for parents such as this one, take a look at "The Family Cloister" and "The Christian Family Toolbox", both written by David Robinson.

Summary: It's worth it for "The Hobbit"
Review: Don't get me wrong, I love LOTR. But sometimes it can get a little dark. However, The Hobbit, which keeps adventure, suspense and straightforward action without getting too depressing, is in my opinion one of the best books of the century - possibly even the world. LOTR is most likely the most intresting trilogy ever written - but I must confess, Frodo Baggins just does not compare with his dear Uncle Bilbo. While they have the same level of adventure (though some could plead Frodo's case on that one), Bilbo has more all-around personality. I was so sad when he went crazy over the ring! ........ But that's just me. Feel free to think otherwise. But I'm warning you - if you buy this set, buy it for The Hobbit!

Summary: Best books ever written...but not for the faint of heart
Review: Excellent books best read with tea and wintry evenings by the fire. Leads you into a world filled with all the components that every book should have including the language rich in texture and imagination. Once read you view your own world with different eyes-enjoy=:)

Summary: The Lord of the Rings- the fellowship of the ring
Review: I am not an avid reader, however after reading this book I am compelled to read the final two in the three part series. This book captures the mind while putting you in the adventure with the hobbits and friends. The only downside to this book is all the decription of various towns, locations, and family history. There are maps that help to lay out the land. This is a book for all ages, and hey now there is a movie for those whio choose not to read.

Review: Poignant. Melancholic. Epic. Triumphant!
