Summary: Something New Every Day
Review: What I learned today (from the review entitled Mass Deception):

I learned today that the literary use of darkness to convey an evil or sinister feeling (act, person, etc), though generally accepted for the past, oh million years, is overtly racist and therefore (deep breath) anyone who has used this technique is quite obviously a racist and their works are bad bad bad. Well, thank God I read these reviews or I would have remained shamefully ignorant and would have kept reading disgraceful works by hateful authors (Hemingway, Dickens, Vonnegut, Tolstoy, Woolf, etc.)

Personally I think Tolkien is a bit long-winded, but still these works are classic and full of adventure.

(By the way, did anyone else notice the negative impression of jewelry in these books? Quite obviously Tolkien was Jeweleryphobic.)

Summary: Excitement For the Book
Review: I have not read the whole triology of "The Lord of the Rings", but after seeing the movie, I am very excited about reading the books. The book must be a non-stop action of magnificent scale, just like the movie. Some say that it is better to not read the prequel, "The Hobbit" before going into the movie, and perhaps to the book too. The prequel somewhat gives away the mysterious evilness of the ring. Anyhow, I am looking forward to reading the books and enjoy them 100%.

Summary: This book is so great, I think I'm a hobbit.
Review: I'm right now reading "The Hobbit" and I'm almost finished with it. It is SOO GREAT! I don't want to put it down. It is full of soo many adventures. I get sort of mad when I can't find the time to read. I'm deffinitly getting the other three "Lord of the Rings" and read them, I can't wait.

Summary: Warning! Product not as shown! (Product picture fixed)
Review: ... it is a cheesy "movie edition" covered in photos from the movie. Each side of the box features a large photo of a character from the movie (Frodo, Sauron?? and the Ranger). Also each book, except the Hobbit, also has movie photos on the cover, spine and back. Frodo on the first book, sauron on the second and the Ranger on the third. The Hobbit actually has a nice drawing/painting on the cover of Gandalf walking in the shire toward Bilbo's house but ont he back it reads "THE LORD OF THE RINGS IS NOW AN EPIC MOTION PICTURE TRILOGY FROM NEW LINE CINEMA".
Some may say the content inside is all that matters, which is mostly true, but if given a choice between a movie edition and a regular edition I would easily choose the regular edition.

Summary: MASS DECEPTION.
Review: If I can give these books less that one star, a negative rating, then these books would get it.

I admit Mr. Tolkien is an inventive writer, however, there are way too many associations of color with that which is bad that hints at more depraved form of racism. But, it seems Mr. Tolkien is trying to convey these messages of hate on a deeper level. I don't recommend these books to anyone that believes in a Diverse and global community. Tolkien injects hate in to all forms of non-whiteness. In a way that is cunning and deceptive that it doesn't sink into your conciousness until you find yourself
observing the Realworld in a different way after you've read the books.

I thought this was perhaps my own bias however, after letting my 12 year old nephew read the books he too, felt that the books seemed to instill a sense of evil to darkness.

Therefore, I say to all people-of-color or people who don't want to propagate such a mentality - Don't buy these books ! Spend your money on something worthwhile and that won't deceive you.

Summary: An epic indeed!
Review: The Hobbit & the trilogy of the LOrd of the Rings are certainly 'must read'books. I read some reviews comparing Harry Potter & the Lord of the Rings. Pardon me, but there is no comparison at all. The Lord of the Rings by far surpasses the kid wizard's tales --- be it in plot, characterization, delivery, etc.

Summary: Thriller
Review: I would not recommend this book for children under 12. It's a little hard to understand. However, if you like action packed, suspense filled books, definitely read this book. Tolkien takes you to a time of danger and adventure. By the third chapter I felt as if I was with Frodo and the rest. I have read Harry Potter and I thought it was the best book I had ever read. Then I read The Lord of the Rings. TLOTR is the best book I have ever read in my life.

Summary: Amazing Box Set of Books at their finest
Review: If you like reading books, of any sort, fiction,sci-fi,action,adventure,and fantasy then you will like these books, they are truly a piece of genius. And With these books tolkien captures everybodys imagination. They are masterpieces, each book in its-self. The hobbit , the fellowship of the rings, The two towers, and The return of the king. Although some people say read the trilogy books first and then The hobbit, i strongly advise you read The Hobbit first because it gives you information about the characters in the books and adventures which lead upto adventures in THE LORD OF TH RINGS. Thank-you and i hope this review has been of use to you, ANd i strongly advise whatever age you are that you buy the books and understand why it is such a big phenomenon.

Summary: Lord no! a tyrant of sore eyes the world over
Review: So you've just seen the film and you absolutely can't wait for the next cinematic installment so you buy the book in the hope of quenching your curiosity. Naive consumer I blame you not. But before you purchase the book consider this. Obviously theres lots and lots of pages to this work so first ask yourself- is this something I'm really interested in persuing? Am I ready for this level of commitment in my life? Secondly theres literally hundreds of charcters in this work which in itself requires a superlative mnemonic feat on part of the reader. Then there's those numerous prolonged descrpitive passages which do very little to move the story along and are such a tremendous bore. And those maps? All rather silly and contrived really. Their inclusion in the novel, far from enhancing the story, is quite distracting and only makes the reader self conscious of the fact that they're reading a work of fiction. Kudos to old Tolky though for writing what is basically a sound storyline even if his ambition ultimately exceeded his ability to realize it. Person who will enevitably click "not helpful" button I have but two words for you- Mervyn Peake (he did the whole fantasy schtick soooo much better).
